Showcase: E-wing

By Force Majeure, in X-Wing Painting and Modification

You only need one. Amiright? It's derpy, it's expensive, it's very good in the right hands.

To be honest, I've only fielded this ship one time and it got stomped right away. I had maybe 10 games under my belt, so I really didn't know what I was doing. Time to re-visit this one and give it a fair shake.

Let's do this:

Not so derpy now, are we? :)

Interesting mods in the OP. I'm working on a 3D model for Star Citizen that I'll be modifying to 3D print in 1/270 scale for X-wing.

I've always loved the ship, but WOW, WEG and the EGVV really did a hack job on the lore.

I LOVE the E-Wing but I don't love the FFG sculpt  So I refer to this model as "justice for Corran Horn"

Nice, looks similar to the model for Fate of the Galaxy, just with four cannon.

Still working on the mesh, but eventually I'm going to 3D print myself a new miniature:

Nice. I wish that the effects crews had given some thought into how the ID tabs actually work on the TFA X-wings. Would have liked to make use of that for my own E-wing (conceptualized as a New Canon spin with new Lore). Instead I went with the six tabs/double tabs from the classic X-wing.

After testing the idea on my Firespray and Z-95s, I tried my hand at recreating the E-Wing from the cover of X-Wing: Mercy Kill. While the book was overall "meh" for me, I loved the camouflaged E-Wing on the cover (which sadly wasn't really in the book). Here's my attempt at it:

I guess the E-Wing repaints are a little slim

Not yet painted, but the conversion is finished. ;)

awsome.... really well done!

a very very very "clean" conversion

If i can ask...

where did you get the parts for conversion?

i would try to convert mine

There aren't really any parts to buy... except for the standard E-wings themselves.

As you can see in my previous post, the wings and the boxes are built from scratch, using plasticcard 1mm thick and some smaller plastic strips.

Look for Evergreen Scale Models Strip Styrene. Those plastic strips are available in every possible size and thickness. Besides that, you need some Revell plastic glue, a steel ruler suited for cutting, a cutting mat and a good cutter.

Here are some more pics of the conversion process:

The new wings are attached, but details are still in progress.

The finished conversion. Lasers and engines are being reused.

The white parts are the scratchbuilt parts of the conversion. Sorry I can't provide better pictures as it is really difficult to take good photos of the whities.

In this case i have to make you my compliments another time!

bravo!

very clean and hand made in 3 copies pracrically identical!

this is very difficoult

You can go the route of Laminidas's impressive modifications, or you can buy a model from Alien Luxury Miniatures and just paint it. Simpler for us less craftsy types. They have 3 different models.
