My 3D printed decimator, painted to resemble a BF110 with splinter camo. Another Decimator and YT-1300 (printed out for a friend) as well as some Deathstar style turbo laser turrets stand by for their turn in the paint booth.

Edited by IkkaI love the Oicunn.
Wow, you guys have some awesome Decimators, wow!
Mine is simply weather-beaten outer-rim patrol; posted before, but I love to add to the mix.

Thanks, my friend really wanted to show what happens when Oicunn's abilities occur.

The original file (the one shown in the picture) is one i made in solidworks and very low detail. found here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2506678
another thingiverse person (internetfett) did an excellent remix of my file with some details added. found here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2804648
Clean. Solid. Strong.
I love the grey tones. The engine glow looks as if it needs some more brightness on the inside. But overal a tasty paintjob!
Painted up another decimator. I’ve been trying out using stickers.

- VT-49 Decimator
My wife got me one of these for my birthday last month but its horrible dog-head looks bothered me. I initially tried sanding off the dome windows but that still wasn't enough. Just finished a more serious mod and repaint. It's still a mess of a design but at least it doesn't look so much like someone decapitated a whippet...
Yeah that always bothered me too. I much prefer yours.
One of my favorite ships and one of the most pervasive boss-level ships in my hotac campaign!

is the fist icon at all inspired by any of the 40k space marine chapters?

You know, having personally crewed one of these bad boys, I really can't decide if I like this modification, becuse the entire bridge/command section has been removed. Yet on the other hand, I DID always wonder why precisely, a patrol vessel needed a huge window on the front end. It's supposed to be an observation window, but why? Why waste that space for a picket vessel?
The answer of course, was because they wanted Imperial players to have their own kinda' "Throne" room. Which it of course, was often used as.
It appears the designers of the Sith Fury kind of agree with you, given how they handled the cockpit, and this IS a really high quality mod... But the raised bridge section at the rear closely relates it to larger Imperial vessels and gives it a sense of scale that this forward TIE cockpit does not- making it seem smaller and more agile than it is. As though it ought to be a TIE Reaper instead.
Gah! I don't know! I want to like it!

I don't disagree about the raised section echoing other Imperial ships and giving a sense of scale. My problem with it is the curves - it just doesn't match the rest of Imperial design language. It feels like the ship is round with mandibles just because the Falcon is round with mandibles. The whole thing feels to me a bit of a mess, cobbled together out of bits of other ships without much sense of logic or of Imperial design. I'm also with you on the TIE window at the front - it breaks scale and looks absurd. I left it on mine because I didn't have much good idea of what to replace it with (or how to get it off without chopping the entire front of the ship off). It seems to me that Imperial ships tend to have a fairly clear design difference between the TIEs and the larger vessels (whether wedge-shaped or boxy) and things that mix the two, like this or the Raider can end up looking at worst awkward and messy (Deci), and at best good, but not like something that feels as if it belongs alongside the ships designed in the 70s and 80s (Raider).
So, that's my pontificating about why I felt it didn't work (and yes, I still think the original looked like a whippet head). I also had never heard of or seen this ship before I cam to X-Wing, so I have absolutely zero attachment to it or reservations about changing it to my liking. As for my mod, this was the first one I did and was very simple. If I did it again, maybe I'd try removing the TIE cockpit and adding a new bridge superstructure. As it is, the height of mine is the same as the original - the back engines are stuck back on unmodified - so FWIW, the command section's still there; it's just windowless. Maybe it's just a variant for pasty officers who like to work indoors...

Mh, you know Star Wars doesn't do BSG CICs! Not for naval vessels..!
But no, you have some point. It WAS designed as an Imperial Millennium Falcon... BUUUUUUUT... The rounded dome absolutely has design heritage in TIE cockpits, Star Destroyer shields/antennae, and The Death Star. It's part of the aesthetic that's significantly overlooked in favor of more angular things. Point and case, save the engines name one other thing on The Raider that's round. It's honestly a miracle the engines aren't angled or something.
But no, I get you, I really do. As a SWG veteran on the other side of things it was always really wild to see Star Wars Galaxies designs come into the game. I fear we may not see many more, which saddens me. Because above all other SWG designs, I want the Rebel YT-1300.

Spheres, sure. But any more complex curves? The Empire's all about basic shapes - spheres, wedges and boxes. Maybe a cylinder on a TIE Bomber, but that's really pushing things in a wild and woolly new direction.
I'll shut up now. I have Opinions on spaceship design.

No, no, you're valid! I agree that it's definitely divergent from other Imperial designs, but I've always encouraged faithful divergence- yet understand why people see it as just an Imperial Falcon... 'cause that's absolutely what it was designed to be. Identical performance to a YT-1300 for Privateers. I like starship design opinions!
I repainted my ol Deci. Going for an old 1940s black and white with a cherry light. Turned out!
...and, yes, the light flashes!

It's printed out on self-adhesive paper. I cut it out and stick it on then spray a layer of matte clearcoat over it.
