PSA for Players that kept Playing from the Tutorial

By Tvboy, in Legends of the Alliance

So if you started with the tutorial and just kept on playing without starting a new game...

You skipped an entire amazing mission!

I kept seeing people talking about the first mission being an escort mission or taking place in a cantina and being confused because that's the 2nd mission! I had already read through the LotA rulebook multiple times before it came out and just jumped straight into the action and skipped the tutorial which I knew would be tedious and boring. After I beat the 5 missions in the main campaign I went back and tried out the tutorial to see if it would be a good way to teach new players and then realized that the tutorial takes you through an extremely shortened and simplified version of the first mission without having to survive the multiple waves of enemies and amazing villain appearance, and then takes you straight into the 2nd mission of the campaign!

Im guessing a ton of people have skipped an amazing mission in the campaign, a mission that starts the app campaign off with a bang, while the 2nd mission is much quieter and a weird way to start off an Imperial Assault campaign.

IMO FFG really shot themselves in the foot by doing this and are giving people a false first impression of the app. The tutorial should have just kicked players out at the end of the tutorial and been like "now you're ready to play the actual Freedom Fighter campaign!"

So if you played through the tutorial mission and just kept going, make sure you go back and play the first mission without the tutorial (on Hard!). And if you're thinking of starting an app campaign, make sure you start a new Save File right after you finish playing the tutorial so that you start the campaign off right!

Maybe it's a trap! to make you play the campaign at least twice. :)

Good thread.

I organized my post about this topic in the other thread into a handy flowchart for those that are curious:

It's also worth noting that, as far as I could make out, you must start the tutorial mission with 4 heroes, which you then automatically carry over into the campaign. This gave me the initial impression that I had to play with 4 heroes. However, if you bypass the tutorial, you can play with 2 or 3 if you prefer.

Wow! Thanks for the heads up. Who knew...?

I did the tutorial with 2 heroes.

I think it depends which tutorial you do. I think if you tell the app you've never played IA before and do both tutorial missions, it will force you to go with 4 predetermined heroes. But if you just play the LotA app tutorial, it lets you choose which and how many heroes you want to go with.

Yes, you’re right here. I don’t know how I thought I was railroaded into 4 heroes. I thought I’d even gone back to check. Anyway, apologies for the misinformation.

I'm pretty sure you lose an opportunity to gain an ally if you play the campaign through the tutorial.

No, I got one after the second mission

Depends what you define as the second mission, heh.

If you play the Tutorial through New Recruits Part 2, you get this message when you enter the campaign overview: 5v6nw9.png

If you start a fresh campaign, you can earn the Rebel Troopers on mission 1

After the cantina mission (second mission as I recall) I had a side mission that resulted in Luke being an ally

Oh man that's good to know. After I play through on normal I'll go back through it on hard, but this time I will be rude to every NPG I encounter :P

Hmmmm

So I am playing it now for first time and have a tutorial part 3 ????? Which doesnt tally with the flow chart above that indicates 2 parts to the tutorial, have they changed this??

I played New Recruits part 1 with a new player and it did state three parts and that was on the 11th, the day this thread was originally posted. After seeing this thread I had assumed that was referring it to the "Overview of the Campaign Map" per the flow chart. Are you actually getting a third tutorial mission or are you basing it on a line of text?

I actually got a third tutorial Misson with its own title of part three.

If I remember:

Part one was life basic training following the instructor out, fixing a console and shooting drones. (Then can't remember if stormtroopers attacking was at end of this mission or start of next). Mainly learning movement and basic interaction and shooting.

Part two I think was trying to get back to the base, ambushed by probe droids, shootout, royal guards arrive and clamour to get in base. Once in base finished. More advanced combat with repositioning etc.

Part three was more advanced moves, back out into the jungle, more combat including a nexu and captain while learning things like special abilities of heroes and strain. Then collecting gear crates and to the menu screen to train, buy gear etc.

I may have blurred the edges of each section but it was definitely split into three for me. As I say, the least section was titled part 3.

Edit: I did choose the option of never played IA before so I winner if that adds a stage????

Yep, I just finished part 2 last night and it’s definitely prompting for a part 3 mission.

@Armandhammer , could there be something missing from your flow chart or are we misreading it somehow?

Interesting!

Admittedly, the steam version of the app would usually freeze near the end of New Recruits Part 1 so I could only run through that pathway a couple times on the iPad. I must have missed it, because there is certainly a New Recruits Part 3!

Usually at this point a terminal would drop down beside the door but I was surprised when this window popped up:

If you tell the app you've never played IA before, it seems to split the map into two separate tutorial missions (New Recruits Part 2 and New Recruits Part 3).

I'll have to update my image later tonight.

How do we see our ending fame level? Was it left out by design, or is it a bug?
