Hey everyone! This can be a place to post all of your GUNBOAT repaints! Just did my first today, and I'd be happy for some feedback. Also, don't forget to also post in the huge GUNBOAT thread on the main page! Just because we finally got our GUNBOAT doesn't mean we can stop spamming the forum with GUNBOATS!!!

So, some thoughts on painting these guys (since a lot of you who are not fortunate enough to have gotten them on Tuesday probably haven't done so yet): these are one of the most rewarding and simultaneously most difficult ships to paint in the whole game! They combine the most challenging/rewarding aspects of Rebel and Emperial ships, with those solar panels on the wings being just as much of a pain to paint as any TIE Fighter, and the cockpit being just as complicated and hard to reach as any X-Wing/E-Wing. There's tons of little panels and lines, and the greebles are more detailed than on even the knarliest Y-Wing. It's not very forgiving - even slight mistakes can make the whole thing look messy (I'm still annoyed at those large wings on the whole). Colorado winters are not forgiving on paints either, and I just could not get any washes to work out in the cold, so I had to settle for being very, very careful not to get paint between the panels. All in all, though, I think it's the coolest looking thing I've ever painted and I'm seriously considering getting eight more just so that I have twelve of them to paint! I might steer clear of all red and black though, just in case we get GUNBOAT Aces anytime soon!

Also, I found this pdf I made helped greatly, so feel free to print it out and use it (I liked using colored pens and highlighters) to plan out your paints! Also makes a pretty cool coloring page, if you've got a family with little kids visiting for the holidays and don't know what to do with kids other than weird nerdy Star Wars stuff (not that that would ever happen to me or anything ):

GUNBOATS aren't official in Armada yet, are they? Let me know if/when they are - I might seriously have to consider playing Armada more then.

Not yet.

At the moment, I use them as a substitute for Tempest Squadron, as they can get lost in the crowd, but have that perfect mix of Hull, speed, escort and bomber for me to think it fits.

I replace firesprays with mine since it seems appropriately thematic. Independent Gunboats with bomber? Works for me.

I plan to do another one with bronze/green. My gunboats need to have some bling!

@Wiredin my first thought on seeing your pair was Jetfire & Jetstorm!

Here's the last member of that squadron, this one's an ace, so the ship has bloodstripes.

Finally, here's the whole squad flying in formation, ready to be flown in a triple HLC Rho Veteran list at game night tomorrow!

Sometimes bloodstripes just aren't enough.

Here are a couple of gunboats I've jazzed up. This model is a real pleasure to repaint since it has a lot of flat, open surfaces and straight lines. All you have to do is hold steady.

Planning to paint three of the wings red to match my medical Lambda. But I also want to make them white to match the unpaired part of the lambda.

the white/red scheme is probably my favorite repaint idea for this ship. Totally need to repaint mine in this way.

Anyone got an idea of what Citadel color would best match the gray base coat of the FFG mini? I like the base scheme and I'm considering repainting a couple of my TIEs in a similar hull color so they match my gunboats better. Right now the blue TIE scheme and the gray gunboat scheme are clashing a little bit too much for me.

Actually, with all of the panels, I think I'll do the same thing I did to my Epic ships.

Can't tell you there but Griffon Blue from army painter works the other way if you want an imperial blue gunboat. I did one Imperial Blue and another Royal Guard Red.
