Battlefront II: Squadron up

By Darth Sanguis, in Star Wars: Armada Off-Topic

Okay folks, I'm sure there are a few of you that plan to snag the new battlefront when it hits on the 14th (and 17th respectively), I was hoping to get a solid crew of players together for starfighter battles. Maybe even a crew for each system it's releases on?

If you'd like to team up with me on Xbox One or Form and/or join a crew on Playstation 4 or PC throw your reply in here and I'll get you listed under your system.

EA is a monster, no doubt, but here's why I say give in:

They listened.

The feedback from their first title was so negative they actually heard the community and responded by providing a single player mode that, to paraphrase the devs, "not designed to inspire nostalgia but is a lucasfilm approved world expanding experience". This game adds to the actual canon. They added space battles and expanded them game to cover all 3 eras. They completely remade the starfighter combat, (I played the Beta, it's wonderful). All this to say, it's rare for EA to listen, positive reinforcement could go a long way.

If all else fails, hit up redbox or one of those other rental gigs and test it for a week, I played the beta and it sold me completely. (something about blowing up clones until I earned enough points to hop in a tri-fighter and do strafing runs at helpless troops in the streets of Theed).

Can you play off-line custom battles like in the original Battlefront II? Must you still earn points to get the fighters? I'm thinking of getting it, but doubt I shall be playing much multiplayer, and would prefer to be able to play it even when I can't get a connection.

I don't know about custom battles, but I do know there's an offline mode that let's you engage in skirmishes to train up for the online mode. I think even the current battlefront has an offline skirmish mode that mimics the online. Unfortunately they've been kinda silent about that. Though there's a great article here about what we know so far, worth a quick read.

I am concerned that they haven't revealed it. What I am looking for is the instant action of the original Battlefield II. That's probably all I'll be playing other than the campaign, so if they don't have that, the odds of me purchasing the game are rather low.

I am definitely getting this game, largely for the single player campaign, which looks intriguing.

The thing I don't like about a lot of deathmatch games in multiplayer these days is how the "good" players get rewards to finish off a match that much quicker than those of us who don't have a lot of time to invest in being "the biggest, baddest deathmatch player out there". So, in other words, the good players get all the goodies, and the average to infrequent players just get left in the dust, with little to no chance of catching up and actually enjoying a match. Also, I prefer to play without headphones so I don't have to hear the little punks out there who like to trash talk and say things they wouldn't have the stones to say to someone face to face.

If they've actually improved starfighter combat, I'll be interested. I liked how the X-wings handled in the VR mode for Battlefront. They handled a heck of a lot better than they did in multiplayer. (That said, I hope they plan on more VR content for Battlefront II.... or perhaps even a standalone VR game...ala X-wing Vs TIE Fighter or X-Wing Alliance.)

All I wanna do, in multiplayer, is get a good number of kills in. I don't worry about bragging rights and leader boards.

Getting it for the PC, I enjoyed the Beta.

Starfighter battles sold me instantly, single player will be a fun play through. Otherwise I am horrible at fast paced FPS's like these.

I'll wait a few days to see the reviews. I was skeptic about the previous iteration of the game and I was right to opt-out. So I woN't jump on the hype wagon until I can't see the what it is about.

I dont know i got bruned by EA's $60 online multiplayer beta that looked like a starwars game. Could buy more plasic ships with that money.......

If you didn't play the beta, the starfighter combat has been completely redone from the bottom up. They made the flight controls make sense IE you have control over pitch yaw and roll in this one. The targeting system is much better. As for gaining points the key for players who have a harder time winning against human opponents is to seek out objective kills, turrets, AI fighters, corvettes, and of course they key objectives can rack up points quickly too. Believe me, my first few matches in I was not killing a whole lot of fighters, but was able to unlock rewards through taking out turrets and an arquittens class. More than that, it's fun to play even when you're losing the match.... I cannot tell you how many Y-wings I've crashed into objectives by mistake and laughed cause it was fun.

I'm buying it on the PC just to "see" the story. I'm hoping that the multiplayer is as good as it looks, but was very disappointed in the last version.

Thanks for the headsup, DarthSanguis. :)

I got the first one when EA put it on sale recently for $5. I was impressed by how unimpressed I was. I'll wait for reviews, and in all likelihood a sale before I jump in (barring exceptional reviews), but if/when I do I'll post in here. It'll be PC, only way I play.

At this point it looks like the next step for any console is just to be a PC connected to your TV anyway. H*** they're pretty d*** close to that already.

My GTX 1070 would beg to differ, and it's not even the top of the line.

I said they were pretty d*** close to a PC. Not they were a PC and definitely not that they were good PCs. They're kinda like PC wannabes. I wouldn't be surprised if this is the last generation of consoles to be honest. I don't play a lot of video games anymore but when I do I usually play PC games.

The only thing (*OPINION INCOMING*) keeping them afloat is the raft of console exclusive games (pun intended). Developers like them because they're easier to make from a coding point of view, and they can cut corners a PC gamer wouldn't tolerate. Within the next decade I do expect most of the distinctions to just go away, but I also agree that consoles are dying. They were good when PCs couldn't keep up with the market, but PCs have shattered any reason that was ever sort of true.

I can't disagree with any of that. I think that's largely why you see so many retro consoles coming out now.

I am continually impressed by EA's willingness to LISTEN to the player base on this title.

I think someone got spanked by the mouse for the ineptness of the last one.

A company willing to listen and respond to their customers. What kind of madness is this? :P

Well, sure.

How many downvotes did that thread end up with, anyway?
