Clarification on Crit Table

By Vutall, in Rules Questions

Not exactly a rules question, but is the design intent on the Crit Table to have anything after Severity 11 NOT include Unconscious?

Seems to be a strange choice that you get hit harder and are still conscious but dying.

Maybe this is to allow a dying character to utter a few dramatic last words?

And under the assumption that nobody will care to hit a dying man when he’s down :P

Now I admit that it’s strange: if you suffer a crit via a technique or application of opportunities and the severity is 11+, you are dying, but not incapacitated in the least! Maybe the best way to fix this would be to edit the Dying condition rather than add Unconscious to the list (like saying you can’t move or perform actions, but can still speak in a very weak voice.. and any additional damage would result in instant death).

Severity is how lethal the blow is not how hard the hit was.

There are a large number of lethal injuries that will kill quickly without rendering someone Unconscious.

12-15 are injuries like cutting the femoral artery.

It does add some interested things to duels to the death. You think you won, but then outta nowhere, head gets squished like a pumpkin ala game of thrones. Poor Oberyn
