wonderful models for you mining guild, too

Points costs are only a starting point, for small skirmish playtests. On the table feedback is greatly appreciated.

And now, on to my Mining Guild Faction for Star Wars Armada!

The Mining Guild Faction introduces a new Die type for Close to Medium range. Orange Dice represent some of the more destructive, but far less accurate weapons used by the Guild. While highly conducive to cutting apart asteroids, their effects are much less consistent on engaged Capital Ships. They have the following faces; Blank, Blank, Blank, Hit, Crit, Double Hit, Hit Crit, Double Crit. The Double Crit is only intended to come into play with a few upgrades.

First up we have the Forager-Class, appearing in "A New Dawn" the Rebels prequel novel, where Hera and Kanan Jarrus meet. If you have read this book, you will understand why I chose the Forager-Class as the Large base ship for the faction. For the Model, I used a resin cast Halo, UNSC Spirit of Fire, from Dark Horse.

Next, we have the Acclimator II-Class, purchased from the Imperial Surplus yards and modified to fit the Guild's needs.

Titles are still forthcoming.

Next, two new classes of GSD, refitted for the Guild by Imperial permit.

On to the Mining Guild CR90 variants, custom designed by the Corellian Engineering Corporation.

Rounding out the ships, we have the civilian version of the Gozanti-Class Flotilla.

Titles are still forthcoming.

On to the Squadrons. First the TIE Modified.

And finally the YV-666b. Modified to act as a bomber, the Guild found that it preferred the resilience of the YV-666 chassis with so many of their operations occurring inside asteroid fields.

Well, I hope you've enjoyed the first look at my version the Mining Guild Faction. Feedback, especially on the table playtest feedback, is appreciated.

Coming soon, the Corporate Sector Athority Picket Fleet.

Looks great, but I feel the Forager is a bit OP with all those dice with arcs. Then again, no redirect means it's really vulnerable to multiple attacks.

Beautiful model and paint job by the way.

I feel it should be a passive defensive bulwark - it really only had light anti meteor and antifihhter turrets, But was HEAVILY shielded, “as befits a ship that ploughed into asteroid fields and comet tails...”

I'm grabby hands about those dice... How'd you do it?

I ordered a set of blank white D8s, got a wood burning tool at the local craft store, and burned in the symbols after a couple of coats of Gloss Yellow spray paint. Time consuming, and not quite as neat as the FFG dice, but clear enough to use on the table.

I have prototypes of the Orange dice on KDY as well.

Yeah man, that flak level is on par with what you would get from assuming the gender of an sjw

grooving even a slight bit the faces you want to show up is a well documented way to load dices.... As you remove matter from marked faces, they end lighter than blank ones, which will statistically end more time down than up. industry-made are balanced against that (or should be). you seem to have put all marked face on the same half of the dice, so marked half is decidedly lighter than blank one!

the way to mitigate that is to evenly interspace blank faces with marked faces, so the difference between dices halves is null. It will still be a loaded dice though.... you could burn neutral symbols on blank faces too maybee.

Making custom dices without loading them is a very precise and hard process, not to be done by hand.

While I appreciate the science of dice as much as the next gamer, I don't know how seriously most gaming dice adhere to it. For myself, the symbols I burned in are shallower than those on the FFG dice, and can then be filled with paint if I see adverse results. I did also take the time to create a pattern that spread the die results as evenly as possible. Beyond that, the minimal variations in results don't really bother me that much. As it happens, in my hundred rolls test, the blanks came up slightly more often than 3 in 8. I know it's not perfect, but the results I saw don't worry me enough to warrant deeper analysis. If you have an industry source for custom d8s, I would be more than happy to utilize it in the future. Those dice take a fair amount of time to make.

I wonder if it would be worth it to have wood burning tips made from brass off shapeways for each of the icons.

I did find a place that would make dice, but the ribs are expensive as ****.

Not cool. Believe me when I say that dealing with the kind of stuff is hard enough without people making casual jokes at their expense.

That's not a bad idea. I will take a look at the thread size of my burning tips. If I can make a set that fits I will make them available.

I'm going to make a set for myself and my woodburner. Dunno if mine is threaded (it's actually my roomates) or not, but I'll take a look and perhaps they are the same. Even if not, I'll gladly share my models.

edit: Roomate reports that her woodburner is threaded as well - how much do you want to bet that they match? ;)

It occurs to me, though, I don't have a thread-measuring tool to identify what kind of thread it uses - do you?

No, but the hardware isle at Home Depot and Lowe's do. I was just planning to take one of the tips I have with me on my next trip. ;)

Will do the same, but snow storm is coming in here, not sure when that'll happen.

Edit: It occurs to me, rather than using a blank die per die made - I have a set of about 10 blank dice. I think I'm going to make a master out of each of these using your word-burner technique, and try making silicon molds of them, then casting them in colored resin.

I'm really thinking mine is an 8-32 thread.

Confirmed, mine is 8-32.

Mine might actually be a bit smaller. What brand of wood burner do you have?

Edit: On second thought, is there any chance you can post some dimensions of one of the tips - Shank length, screw length, things like that.

Yes, tomorrow. I'm out on a campout with the boy scout troop until then.

Walnut Hollow, 16.5W, 120V A.C. 60Hz WH-750F

The shank width and length varys alot, but the thread length is just under 8mm.

Awesome! Thank you. I ended up picking up a walnut hollow too, so I should be able to match it (rather make one set of prints) I'll let you know when I have the STLs

Cool! Thanks.

nine tips made. Three sizes of each of the three icons.

Large is scaled for one icon per face, Medium is two per face, Small is three per face.

You can snag them on my shapeways store: https://www.shapeways.com/shops/foas?section=Tools&s=0 with no markup. Help yourselves.

I'm ordering a set of the Large to begin with to see how they come out. I anticipate that the threads will need some cleanup by running them through a #8-32 nut before you try using them on the woodburner. I also expect that the brass will shrink a bit when heated, so be careful.

Edit: tagging @cynanbloodbane to catch their attention because I was silly and didn't quote them.

Edited by ThatRobHuman

Looks like two of the three icons will not work in Brass. For another $2.50 per I'm upgrading to steel to see if that works.

Edit: on second thought, I'm going to play with the geometry some when I get home to see if I can get a better result out of this.
