Bring back the Firmir!

By reuben3, in WFRP Gamemasters

Not sure if this is the best place for this thought, but I am hearby throwing my hat in the ring to demand an official return of the Firmir! One of the coolest monsters in the Warhammer World, I bemoaned their loss in 2nd ed. So those who want to see a return of the kidnapping dark crystal mist monsters post your thoughts!

(BTW, I am aware FFG may well have problems doing this given the IP. This is just for rabid cheering/demanding, not sober examination)

I love the fimir too; and they're going to be featured in one of my upcoming adventure chapters.

I second that.

But really it is GW`s decision.

I'm too young (27) to have played first edition, but just the right age to have played Hero Quest, which is what brought me into the hobby in the first place and I know the Fimirs from that game.

But then, that's ALL I know about them. So I'm curious: what's their background? What are they about? All I know is what they look like and that they were quite powerful in Hero Quest:)

They tend to take over crumbling and abandoned human/dwarf/elf fortifications, particularly in swampy, boggy environments. They have an interesting caste system, overruled by a hag matriarch of sorts. She's the only female in the group/tribe unless she is sponsoring a new one. The Fimir can't procreate except by copulating with other races (Human is referenced in the original core WFRP book); so they raid villages for women and use them as breeders. The magic user members of the caste summon a thick fog which they can also make noxious. They use this fog to obscure their movements, and because of their single eye, it is thought that they use their fog as a reference for depth perception (the clearer an object is in their fog, the closer it is).

All in all, they're pretty interesting, and with the whole breeder/**** aspect, very dark. Something I imagine causes concern for GW. Certainly they can write that component out if they wish to reintroduce them, but it does make for an EXCELLENT story hook (for mature audiences).

Too give you a little hope, one of the core books (think the magic one) mentions something about one eye bog mosnters. happy.gif

Really! If the Fimir come back, I'll have a happy fit!

Where did you see this?
