Impact and Pierce

By Manchu, in Star Wars: Legion

As I understand it:

  • Pierce X means you ignore X block results on a defense dice roll.
  • Impact X means you can change X hit results to critical results.

Is that correct?

Yes, though Impact only works against targets with Armour.

Thanks, good catch there.

Has anyone seen the upgrade cards that allow you to add special weapons to your squads?

Yep, I'll find a picture tomorrow if nobody does in the meantime....it's half midnight and I have 2% battery left :)

I'm really wondering about how Imperial and Rebel squad weapons compare/contrast.

I heard Mr. Davey say the DLT-19 has Impact 1. I would guess the Laser Canon upgrade for the AT-RT also has Impact.

Impact 3 on the AT-RT Cannon. Can see it here;

I could see Reb players favoring 2x trooper squads without spec weapons (esp if Targeting Scopes is about 5 pts) over AT-RT w/laser canonsntil AT-STs appear. Imps can bring a lot of Impact to the table and there is no Imp unit with Armor. Probably more likely if Imp players favor DLT-19 squads over speeder bikes.

The AT-RT has two other weapon options, aside from just the big canon. One that's just dumps 5 black dice at range 3, and another that's a flamethrower that hasn't been fully shown yet.

Compared to a max squad of basic troopers, 50 points to also throw 5 black dice, you're paying ~30 points more on the AT-RT for enhanced durability.

I only knew about the laser canon when I posted the above speculation.

What is this 5 black dice weapon? Points cost? Sounds better than laser canon.

AT-RT Rotary Blaster.

Fixed front/AT-RT only.

Five black dice, range 1-3, 30 points.

It's shown during the how to play video. Better than the canon against infantry, not as good at cracking armor; but they're closer than you'd guess due to the one really accurate red die on the canon versus the more but less accurate black dice on the blaster.

Edit: also, range 1-3 rather than 2-4; so more short range oriented.

I think the laser cannon is better overall tbh. Slightly worse against infantry (not as much as it seems due to the hi pierce and accurate Red though), but vastly better against armour. Which will definitely appear soon enough.

In core games though, I expect Rotary Blasters to be the favourite.

So if you can have 800 points and Rebel troops are 40/48 points (I'm not sure, all I see are blurry pictures) and you can have 6 generic squads plus Luke, that comes out to 400/448 points with no upgrades. Picking up an AT-RT or 2 would be a great investment since they have Armor and hit hard.

The laser canon doesn't have Pierce.

Base squad of four Rebel troops is 40 points. Assuming their extra body is another ten points ala the extra Stormtrooper, six full squads is 300 points before specialists, any other upgrades, or Luke.

This means we will have quite large forces going against each other. I'm happy about that.

Huh. I read that like 3 times too....I guess this'll teach me for posting when I should be working :D

The card in the announcement article is 48pts. This makes more sense to me as they roll black dice over the stormtroopers white dice at 44pts.

Nope, that's classic bad font. It's 40 in the article, the zeroes just look like eights. See the weapon Rebels carry- the A-280 blaster. The eights and zeroes look very similar, but the points cost is fourty.

Stormtroopers have better armor, which more or less cancels out the Rebel attack dice advantage.
