So how did the data on Wedge go from bad to good? Was it just the results of this past weekend?

Wedge was always fine. It was never that he was bad, just that he was being played at a rate disproportional to how well he was doing.

I wasn't trying to imply that Wedge was/is bad or was/is good, just wondering what caused the shift from "Probably don't bring Wedge" to "If you're playing Rebels, you should probably bring Wedge (but don't play Rebels)". So I didn't know if he just has the most number of cut appearances of any Rebel ship, or if his cut rate increased, or some other factor.

Faster ships, especially with extra variables, can throw people out of whack. Advanced sensors Guri is a headache to guess on her own, but a Supernatural Primed Thrusters Silencer is never not going to make one consider literally every location and orientation conceivable in order to run from it or attempt to pin it. Double reposition split however it wants, including at both ends of a talon roll or on a 1/3 hard is absolutely silly. It can act when stressed, clear it, and then act or double act. So long as it takes care not to overload stress, it can disregard Sloan, panicked pilot, debris, or even linking when stressed. Oh, and if it starts unstressed, even without primed thrusters it can double repo and third action, ending up unstressed. Did I mention that the system slot is open despite the shenanigans? Come on, FFG! For the sake of determining wingmen+support, POINTS AND SLOTS!

Boba in all scum lists. He and whisper were the most played pilot of the cut with 5 appearences

3 Kagi. 1 Dash (who made top4). Only 1 imperial out of 7 didn't have a phantom

EDIT: Redline was particularly ineffective: out of 18 lists, only 1 reached the cut. Was it due the 8 lists with Kagi (3 of which made the cut)?

With the data of this tournament, Whisper passes Wedge as most played pilot of second edition

Or could it be that the hype has pushed Redline into the hands of bad players? I believe he was still in the winning list.

It could also be that they cannibalize each other. Have the bid or die in the mirror.

I'm actually a bit surprised that we aren't seeing Biggs more. Unless you really want an i5, I think I would take him over Thane.

Meta shifted even more dramatically toward massive bids with i5 proton torps. It's much easier to deal with that with an i6, just because of how the target lock mechanic works.

It went from "absolutely don't do this" to "I guess it's not the worst thing". I just need more people to play Wedge for that sweet sweet house money.

If it's not spoon fed then people end up trying to take it as a suppository

Weren't we in a ps 5 meta since basically conversion set were unpacked thought? It's nothing new

Maybe, but the same wasn't true for Whisper thought. 24 were played and 5 made the cut.

Thane is the pilot that should deserve the whole "wedge is bad" treatment because, unlike Wedge, he's actually bad.

He was played 57 times and made the cut just twice...

Maybe, I don't have the proper matchup to confirm or deny anything. But I think if they faced many mirrors, there would have been more in the cut because one has to win in order to have another one losing.

I see a lot of Rebel lists with Thane that could be massively improved be making him either Jan or Biggs.

I see a lot of Thane being flown in block formation.

Depends on where you live, I think. Parts of Europe were (and still are) heavy on some i4s as well. And by some I mostly mean Deathrain.

Everything has been consolidating to i5 over time though. As far as I know we didn't start so concentrated at i5, though I'd have to check early stuff like GSC.

I do wonder how often the general forum populace wanders in here. PEOPLE WHO POST IN OTHER THREADS, CAN YOU HEAR ME?

no

I've been thinking lately about whether giving players control over choosing player order via a bid is a good idea in the first place (and also creating benefits to bidding via the MOV rules). I realize that deep bids are often a symptom of other game balance problems (185 points of Imperials consistently beating 200 points of everything else is huge a red flag) but what about the direct effect of this rule? What if player order was always determined randomly at the start of the match? Or choice given to the player with lower MOV coming into the match? Or some other rule? What if unspent squad points didn't benefit you in determining MOV?
