My Rebel heart actually wants the hard hitting BWing like Braylen Stramm....but my Rebel brain is telling me Lowhhrick.

I too would love a legitimate hard hitting ship, let me know when the rebel faction gets one that's remotely interesting

Salt aside I actually wonder if the 2.0 ghost might be fun? I haven't looked at them as I plan to regress back to hating all large base ships from infringing on my dogfighting game, but running it as a cannonball has my attention

I’m curious to see how many points is too many points to sink into Guri - with Virago you can add 3 health (title, hull, shield) and then add in Debris Gambit, Advanced Sensors and IG-88A if you want to get ridiculous.

Hey nerds. I'm looking at 2nd tier aces (definition: not Vader, Grand Inq., or a Defender, basically still really good, but not expensive or capable enough to carry a game as well as a tier 1 ace). I have identified 5 pilots:

Whisper

Duchess

Soontir

Maarek

7th Sister

They all do ace-like things to some extent (I'm loosely defining this as using reactive positioning as some part of their core competency, and can operate effectively independently), and they all have good looking build options from the low 50s to low 60s (i.e., they fit in a slot that doesn't fit Vader, Inq, or a Defender).

Am I missing any pilots that should be in this list?

7th Sister is I4, so if you are counting I4, then dont forget Echo.

Also, Vynder is dirt cheap in 2E, and slamming around makes him 3 agility to boot.

I dont really know how to react to seeing the Ghost on the table across from me anymore. Muscle memory still tells me to go into I hate this but its a puzzle next game will be more fun probably mode. The model is the same but the ship just isnt. Even Kanan/Lowhrick takes damage now. It still maybe runs laps around the board and keeps its blind spot pointed away from anything that matters, occasionally k turning and rotating the Ion cannon? Same is true for Dash. But its not really that Dash anymore. Letting go of the hate for 1.0 things is becoming more and more relevant. Which is awesome.

But what will people rage against now that full 360 turrets are gone I wonder? Probably Vader, Boba, and the last thing they honorably jousted?

I think Guri is legit even without the title.

The only factions people shouldn't care about has Luke in it. Imperial and Scum are both pretty strong. If Vader isn't moving last, Fenn is going to have a good time with him.

That 72 point guri IS no title. That's just Asensors and Gambit.

A titled Guri would end up costing...

62+8+4+10+8+8... That's a 100 point Guri.

Maybe I should go back to flying Chopper like a kid playing bumper cars? It’s fun and the double jam could be janky enough to work...

Ok, unlikely but it’s still fun to thoroughly break your opponent as they mistakenly try to figure out the logic

I never understand anything, i have the high ground.

I'm still not clear where you're aiming, but i don'tthink i agree with using skill floor as a faction identity

I don’t know if my thoughts are fleshed out, and last edition doesn’t matter anyway.

I tend to feel like if I am going to play against someone at my skill level or better I want rebels and if I’m gonna table some beginners I want empire.

The local that rarely plays and brings his interceptors gets tabled, the local that rarely plays and brings y-wings ends up in the middle.

Edit: sorry for bringing down the talk of new cool stuff with old boring stuff. I’m still on the 4-LOM hype train.

Can Turr be an ace?

Please start making 2.0 gameplay content. It’s killing me to know some people have this in hand, all point values and upgrade slots are available to us, and I still can’t see any game play because no one is putting any videos of gameplay online!

Ok so it’s essentially the first day since gencon, but I’m still fine with being unreasonably upset. My needs need be met.

You feel the need to watch supernatural reflex Vader kick everything else off the map except another supernatural Vader?

What has decent matchups against supernatural Vader? Starting with wave 1 stuff, do any of these feel good?

Fenn Rau and a big bid

y-wings with 180 arcs

seven firing arcs

out-pointing him and living?

I don’t think I can count on a big enough bid, and point fortressing will be extra hard with half points. Would you rather have five gray squads with Ion turret and seismic charge or Howl Iden +5?

Ridiculously wiped out, but I've had some time to decompress. Highlight and lowlights of GenCon!

Highlights (in no particular order):

  • Meeting everyone! Some folks for the second time, but one or both of us not knowing it.
  • @Brunas mistaking me for the guy running Loopin' Chewie. I really should have accepted the Krayt running shirt, then ran away at a dead sprint. I'd have felt I'd earned it.
  • @catachanninja's warm hugs and the likelihood that he'll never know my real name.
  • Playing a list I love, absent of any of the cancerous bull in the meta, and doing well with it.
  • Getting the sweet, sweet 2.0 stuff

Lowlights (in a very specific order):

  • Getting paired another local in the first round of the cut (@Biophysical). Balls. There's a head to be hunted for the lone drop to skew the bracket.
  • Playing probably a day too much X-Wing. I wasn't going to miss out on either the 2.0 event nor the main event, but it chewed up a ton of my con.

Isn't my love enough?

I can say pretty definitively based on the Supernatural Vader Open (Aug 2nd 4PM) that 180 arc Y-Wings are most certainly not the solution

Right now I'm really high on rigged cargo chute carriers, a generic firespray with rigged can hang out with Fenn and old t and have 6 points for activities. Might be worth dropping it down to just a falcon though? I'm super sold on Fenn plus rigged friend, still experimenting on the rest.

Fenn + Scum Han? All I6 and you end up with a big bid.

Although it seems to float around that annoying point range where you are adding upgrades just to fill the points, not cos they're good, but there's not really room for any filler ship that means more than lost MOV. Could drop the shuttle actually?

Fenn Rau (Fang Fighter) (68)

Lone Wolf (4)

Adv. Proton Torpedoes (6)

Han Solo (Scum) (54)

Trick Shot (1)

Homing Missiles (3)

0-0-0 (3)

Lando Calrissian (Scum) (8)

Dengar (6)

Rigged Cargo Chute (4)

Engine Upgrade (*)

Lando's Millennium Falcon (6)

Autopilot Drone (12)

Total: 184

Also, I love the 000/Lando Crew/Landos Falcon title interaction: 'Which wrong decision will you make today?'

I’m pretty sure anything that moves before Vader and has a combined three arcs will never be enough. Ten arcs, though, by bringing five of them, should tag him occasionally.

That format seemed particularly designed to play to Vader’s strengths with both a low ship count and evade tokens available.

Edit: and Zack, are cargo chutes available in the mildly assumed rerelease only format? All the collected spoilers are everything, rather than a conversion kit/ wave I split.

Landos falcon comes with a poop chute.

No idea how upgrades will work, I had assumed yes?

I‘ve seen it more than once as suggestion for Phantoms to take FCS. But how do they gain the Lock? With Krennic?

Also, is it just wrong because AdvSensors exist?

Yeah I am super sold on Supernatural Reflex Vader. Dude is a beast even without evade.

I have been accidentally putting FCS on things that don't have locks ever since the points dropped.

A lot of my group got stuff at Gencon and are feeling things out. If anybody else is like us, it will be a bit before content drawn from experience can be generated.

I had a friend grab an Imperial conversion kit for me, so I will try some things on the table. By default, anything that plays like 1.0 will be good (i.e. Vader) - the big challenge is figuring out how to efficiently configure a chassis. I've messed around in squad builders with Dash with builds ranging from 115 points to 148. My gut feeling is that for the most part having minimal upgrades in your squad is better unless you are able to build a hyper mobile Ace with them like Vader. I'm used to having upgrades cost up to 4 (8) points with maybe the rare 5+ upgrade (Krennic/Palp) - now you can easily blow past that. Restraint seems like the best play - even a deep bid may be the best even if you don't care about initiative since your opponent can't get half points on your bid.

You can just give me raw, unmitigated conjecture and tiny sample sizes. I won't complain.
