I thiiink flight Astro is actually better on wedge compared to bb8 right now

I’m not entirely sold on flight Astro and x-wing aces, but I would love to be proven wrong. But then again I joust the X-wing like the B-wing, relying heavily on the K-turn and initial setup with barrel rolls or boosts (when equipped). I’ve never quite been a fan of 3 turn and hide behind a rock to rely on green dice when I can 4K and at least possibly get a shot off. Of course if flight Astro boosts or barrel rolls me into position after that turn I could maybe see it.

I can have 'custom' Mandalore "playmats" made and shipped out to you guys by mandalore if you want them. In fact, Zack already got one- that definitely was a mandalore mat prior to mandalore-customization, and wasn't just a printing error.

Posting here because Chris needs to git gud at checking his email.

@Brunas

And of course right after I post this, FFG wakes up, realizes "Oh **** the open is this weekend" and announces it/posts the playmat.

If anyone wants my kick-*** Mandalore playmats (Which I totally swear aren't plain grey squares that says 'Mandalore') let me know.

Is everyone content that krayts have the first x wing parody song or are we going to do something about the fact that mynocks have MORE parody songs?

That 4K Shot ain’t gonna do anything with no mods and probably at Range 3. Flight Astro will set you up for the current turns or the next turns. Any free action is a great action. Especially at 1 Point, the 1 Point you needed for Integrated anyways.

I'd totally take you up on that - but by the time shipping and international border charges are applied it won't be worth it.

Ugh. Anyone else salty that they need to purchase more than one Porn Shuttle just to get astromechs... oh well

thanks Gold Squadron <_<

That said, yes, I'm rather annoyed. I'm taking some 'paper' Flight Astros (FAA) to test out with a few X-wings and Y-wings for a bit to see if the purchase of more is required. My bad list of the week. (I'm going to roll so many unmodifiable blank dice...)

  • Wes, VI, FAA, IA

What country are you in? I might be able to get them printed in-country.

Not-America, to the north of you.

It'd be interesting to see from a curiosity stand point what it would cost. I tend to supply the local shop with mats come tournament day since they don't have any, so having another wouldn't hurt... just hard to justify at home.

Technically the only thing north of the Americas is the Northwest Passage ?

Oh you mean ?? [pedant mode off]

I've got a few games under my belt now with 2x Gold/ICT/BTLA4/FAA and 2x Blue Squadron Novice/FAA/Primed Thrusters/IA. I think it's legit good. That control is real. The speed is real. The pile of un or singly modified attacks is real, because frequently the target has no mods themselves. The Hit Points are real.

It feels soooooo good.

Does this make Wedge competitive?

Thank god Y-Wings cant reenforce!

It definitely doesn't suck. It's just annoying that it helps high-PS so much more than low-PS, when (the state of the game being what it is) design should be trying to go the other way.

I think it helps low PS Y-Wings with Bomb loadout too though. They essentially get an Advance Slam type drop. Also, will help low PS ships similar to what Blair runs block much easier.

Can you explain?

The killer, to me, is this: a low-PS ships moves. If it has a ship in arc, it doesn't get the benefit. If it doesn't, it can BR or boost. Then the target ship moves, and the low-PS ship may not get a shot anyway. Don't get me wrong ... this is useful in closing range quickly, but for low-PS ships it's not a combat-useful ability. (It can even be a combat-detriment ability, if great care isn't taken with range control. It would suck to get Harpooned because of your astromech ... ) For high-PS ships, it's an incredibly useful combat ability ... they move, and either have a shot or can use the astromech to get a shot, without fear of losing the shot later in activation.

I don't really see the AdvSLAM type bomb-drop. If anything, the BR might be useful in the way, and it's possible for the boost to be useful in this way ... but it's unlikely. I think the Y-wing is genuinely better off with an R2.

It would need smoothing out (e.g., to dampen use with PTL and other power combos), but if the assist happened at the end of activation, it would still help those high-PS ships ... but it would help low-PS ships more. With a little more work, this could have been a genuine X-wing/low-PS E-wing fix.

But I could be missing something, for sure. Am I?

For example you’re a PS2 Y-Wing. You know where they are. Your 3Bank and such doesn’t quite get you there to drop the bomb, so you then barrel roll, drop.

That’s just a niche though. What the card does for the low PS ships is it gives their dial a huge boost (pun intended). The Y-Wing knows where they are and where they’re going to be and can use the card however it suits them with full knowledge. Chris explained this aspect pretty well in the latest podcast.

Right, which I mentioned, but there's a huge honkin' caveat: if you can get there without having an enemy ship in-arc.

Which is what makes it good, especially for 1 point. It's just so much better on high-PS ships, and that's what annoys me. I'm not saying the card is bad ... I'm saying that the developers missed an opportunity to make it better, not in the "more powerful" sense, but in the "good for the game" sense. FFG just doesn't seem to want low-PS arced ships to be able to compete. We're not all Blair Bunke.

I see what you’re saying.

There’s a list going around in my local area that has 4 PS1 Starvipers with the -3 title plus Sunny Bounder with the -2 title. It’s extremely effective. Imagine 4BZ on steroids. -14 points worth of upgrades in the list too lol.

That's a good counter-example, and one I think most people did see coming. That -3 cost and that incredible BR actually fixed StarVipers. (Kihraxz are probably also now fixed ... if not broken, once someone figures out the killer -4 cost combination of upgrades.)

With new options, is there a solid ARC with FAA now?

I got a match in tonight myself. Despite early bumps and fumbles, the ability to actually disengage and re-engage is big. Janson escaped with one hull to arc dodge out, swing around and strike from behind. That free boost/barrel roll seems good to me. Good enough? I'm a poor judge of that but time will tell.

Boosting/barrel rolling BTLA4 Ywings are actually quite scary! I may try yours but I liked putting Wes down and feeling like I was in control with him.

In my admittedly limited testing with FAA on low PS, I've found it to be amazingly useful. The real power of it is to use a move that takes ships out of your arc as a way to trigger the boost/BR to being you into an advantageous position. This gives you a ton of utility for blocking and weaving around asteroids. You can also use a move to pull up beside someone and then BR behind/in front of them to get the block or set up a shot.
