thank you mods.

Awesome, thanks!

Hello X-Wing fans! After discussing the issue, we’ve decided to reinstate the Carolina Krayts Podcast thread to the main X-Wing forum page. Discussion about X-Wing (strategy, builds, etc.) is what the forums are for, and we want to encourage this.

However, this decision comes with a caveat. Keep the discussion pertinent to X-Wing, and refrain from bumping this thread (including “I Agree” and trying to boost page count). If this thread cannot stay on-topic, it will be moved to Off-Topic permanently. Please remember that your posts not only reflect on you, but the community as a whole. Thank you, and happy flying.

Thank you! :)

Hi Admin,

Thank you. Genuinely.

I agree.

Seriously, I do. Thanks very much to the mods for bringing this (mostly) high quality thread back to the main page.

So- on today's discord topic.

What truly is the value of one extra point of health?

How much does one point of health affect tournament scoring results?

What is value?

10? Maybe 15?

thats about were I start to question taking him

The counter point is that with all the other damage mitigation and regen toned down, hit points are probably more precious. I still think he sees a point bump though

I’m not sure that’s ENTIRELY it.

Have you seen the other posts in off topic ?

Anywho - how about that 2.0? I am still #HYPED

Does the value vary based on your agility? Should Hull Upgrade's cost be lower for ships with lower green numbers?

Well there's a surprise to be sure - but a welcome one.

Unrelated:

Gencon event registration went up, and it looks like you get a core set + either a TIE Advanced or a Y-Wing, and get 5 threat points to make a list.

...is there any world where the best strategy isn't just Vader + Obsidian? Here's the threat cards in those (that I know of)

Core set X-Wing: http://xwing-miniatures-second-edition.wikia.com/wiki/Quick_Build_/_T-65_X-Wing

Core set TIE Fighter: http://xwing-miniatures-second-edition.wikia.com/wiki/Quick_Build_/_TIE/ln_Fighter

Y-Wing

That’s fair, but upgrades in general are being price bumped from the looks of it. And if he stays low costed I don’t want to stare down a Ghost or even a 2400 with Saw crew. It’s scary now and will continue to be

The problem is that that the jump is non-obvious, where there's some permutation of agility + HP (and shields vs hull) that equate to an "average number of turns the ship survives in 'x' conditions".

So the value of that extra point of health is relative to the ship.

Overall in health, we can definitely say the value of 1 can go up if that increases the amount of damage your opponent needs to do to get you to half health since everything can be half health-ed for points competitively. Although the value can differ mechanically when dealing with whether that extra health is from for shields or hull. Beyond those 2 statements, it's all the variables that make up a ship that can dictate actual costs/value which for me is too many to attempt to find a value for.

I'm just gonna pretend that this is a better worded version of what I tried to say! :)

Permutation is not the right word for what it's worth.

Yeah, I’d been arguing one of the subtle things that made jumpmasters good was the odd numbered health. It was paying for 90% of the Hull as a yt-2400, but took the same amount of damage to get to half points.

Hull upgrade is clearly better on ships that start with an even number of health.

I dunno, the threat 3 Luke paired with that R3, Proton Dutch seems good.

We're also seeing a significant drop in the average power of attacks (both due to reduction in 4+ dice abilities but also in decreasing action economy), coinciding with a decrease in defensive effectiveness (changes to evade, reinforce, reduction in action economy). It will be interesting to see how the new damage meta "feels". It seems like damage will come more steadily but in smaller pieces. In that world, it seems like the individual health increments would matter more since you're less likely to be overkilled, so a single additional increment of health is more likely to let you survive an additional attack?

Incidentally, that Gencon format seems to be tacit confirmation that the Squadbuilder App wont be live by then.

I think that it will depend on how you use it. If using Saw means you do way more than one hull worth of dmg on the enemy, it is totally worth it. With shields being more stingy and defensive mods being nerfed, having a die become a 3/8 chance for a crit could be devastating. Imagine Saw pushing through a direct hit and then Thane following up to reflip it again. If your list is designed to brawl and wipe the board, it will be a good upgrade. If every HP is precious, then probably a bad idea to take him.

How about Saw on a U-Wing or an ARC? At what point does the damage you take become a deterrent to using him irrespective of the cost?

Saw on (current) Norra with Predator and R2D2 is something I want to try.

Or it could just be they just want a format that's quick and easy to set up.
