Carolina Krayts is the best X-Wing podcast

@catachanninja - you and I both have switched our lists how many times the last year? We'll just do it again - no big deal.

That's a far less effective way to produce desired results when compared to ******* a ton

Much closer to the latter, I've seen lists i enjoy before get wrecked by game changes, it happens. I even talked on the podcast about how general power creep is probabaly good for the game because it keeps the point of entry lower for new players. The biggs one got me pretty hard because he went from fine and then neccessary until the last faq he became OH MY GOD I HATE PLAYING AGAINST HIM HE RUINS THE GAME like hasn't been here the whole time. People will say they've complained about biggs from the beginning and they're likely liars, unless they took a convenient break after wave 3

I mean, I've never enjoyed playing against Biggs, but it's been tolerable, and that's only opinion, so I don't complain too much. Recently the general volume has ramped up because of Lowrick/Selflessness (I know I'm not spelling that right, but I just can't look it up every time). That's not really debatable, right? I mean Biggs was fine, and then he was terrible because he relatively quickly got a huge durability increase. His card didn't change, but to say he hasn't changed would be sticking your head in the sand.

In that case there's literally no excuse for the spelling.

I also don't think it's fair to put the Biggs change on the "complainers" in the sense that a) there's plenty of data at this point, and especially the recent iteration, to support those concerns and b) I'm not actually sure they're a driving force in any change. Heck, in a lot of their interviews, the developers themselves consistently said that Biggs is the card they would change and that he has caused a lot of problems for them to design around. In fact, it's a reason I couldn't believe Low was released because it seemed to fly in the face of that and made me think either a) they'd given up or b) they had clear plans for a Biggs change. Of course, as it turned out, they hadn't even playtested the combo that made up the newer versions of FSR. My guess is if they had considered it, we'd have seen an earlier change to Biggs or even a very different Low.

All that said, I think he's still pretty playable and in mosts lists he presents some very similar problems to what he already presented -- and in fact presents more interesting choices for both players as he is now.

This basically matches my feeling with Biggs. Until recently, I had no issue with Biggs' ability. He was annoying at times, but not broken in the slightest, and he was Rebels' saving grace in Wave 8. The first time I ever saw Biggs as abusive was when Kanan/Biggs popped up. Even then it was just one list and Rebels were in a position in the meta where they didn't have much else to compete with. The real trouble started in Wave 11 with the release of Lowhhrick. Whereas before Biggs would draw fire for a maybe 2-3 rounds before dying, now you had a ship who was capable of keeping Biggs alive for (likely) the entire 75min round. And now we also had multiple lists that relied on keeping Biggs alive as long as possible: Kanan/Biggs, FSR2, OP3. All top tier. I think this is the straw that broke the camel's back for the devs. I don't think they were listening to the complainers at all. They've said in multiple interviews that they see Biggs as a huge design hurdle for the Rebel faction. Every Rebel ship has to be designed around Biggs. But until recently Biggs was never part of an OP combo so there was never any justification for nerfing him. Now there is. I honestly think this decision will be beneficial for the game.

My spelling is always bad, especially when I'm apathetic

which also now opens up the possibility for the T-65 "Fix"

Man, last Hoth open’s hangar bay with the guy that brought a rolling cooler and the last round of last worlds day one where you played my buddy’s Bossk and four Zs might be my highlights of X-wing. I hope you find the joy again, but if you don’t I can respect it.

I'm super hoping that this is residual saltiness from work bleeding over, only time will tell

Salty batteries is a bad thing. Maybe leaking?

Okay, in the theme of Krayts: a completely off topic tangent.

I’ve commented in the Facebook group, messaged the account, met a few of you in person, and posted here. I doubt anyone ties all those versions of me together. Is the vocal community even smaller than it seems? If everyone does the same thing as me we give the false impression of two to four people, because of usernames. I’ve finally got a computer with enough screen real estate to run VASSAL, and if I pick a new name that is me number five!

Maybe that was worded funny. I can try again. Brunas is Chris, catchninja is TheZackMathews, tfj2xxx is Travis, so we know that. But when I try to talk to them (or any of you) they probably don’t link my username here and my name in real life, and I assume I’ve never met any of you or talked to you on Facebook, because of usernames. Does that mean we all think there are twice as many people talking about Xwing on the Internet than there actually is?

Probably. I go by a different name on Reddit too. Over time though I've gotten pretty good at figuring out who people are. The X-wing community actually feels pretty small.

Some days I think there are thousands of people reading and talking about Xwing, and other days I think there are as many people podcasting as listening to the podcasts. I guess I’m curious about the download numbers?

What was wave 8 meta and why didn't you like it? I got in after wave 9, basically with the release of Heroes of the Resistance.

Rebels didn't exist competitively. It was palp aces, deadeye scouts, and attani mindlink, and the scouts won more than the others. The only list you could consider running competitively was kannan /Biggs and maybe dash+ Or miranda+ but they still weren't sure things. Jake/Han made a small showing later in the meta but it was about like RAC/ whisper, who did not have Kylo to buddy up with at the time, but was better than any rebel list because you had original palp. If you were lucky these were top 16 lists for the ones that flew them.

This where the cheese of auto blaster accuracy corrector double tap phantom, and other nasty jank was born out of spite because they had what felt like nothing left.

you could argue it was worse for rebels in wave 8 than it was for imps in wave 11, but to me it looked about the same, except having 11 waves instead of 8 means the imps had some more options to play with.

Don't give the meta that much credit, people weren't playing mindlink yet so it was jumps vs palp aces, that was it.

Yeah, that's why I lost to it on multiple occasions during that meta. People were playing it during that time.

I heard about one guy running Manaroo double Scyks prior to Gencon, and that was the only Mindlink I heard about anywhere up until the Deadeye nerf. It may have been out there, but it was not common at all.

Gencon final was Double Deadeye Scout Party Bus v Autoblaster Ghost Ghost Y, I’m pretty sure.

I’m convinced that was partly terrible because the Contracted Scout was ps3 and it was the first time rebel efficiency was pushed out at ps2.

I agree with the latest intro so hard.

Our regional in the meta had an attanni double scout and guri in the top 16, but it crumbled vs deadeye scouts. Without the protectorate or shadowcaster, mindlink wasn't really good enough (while deadeye was still an option)
