You don't lose 30lbs in a month, and you don't beat the gunboat in that time either.
But together, slowly but surely, we can do it!

Reminds me of the time I drew blinded pilot every time I had a range one shot on a ship that was about to die. That was actually funny. As for rage on Miranda, It was wardens.
I think in the Tel Harpooned! discussion, y’all forgot the face down card dealt when the condition goes off due to the uncancelled crit. I don’t think it changes the end result, but dealing a facedown damage card is not technically damage, and Tel says cancel any remaining damage.
I’m 85% certain that is irrelevant, but not totally sure.
If he has one hull and the condition, and you deal a single uncancelled crit, I think it might kill him twice? The crit triggers his ability, he comes back, and receives a facedown card. If that is the right order, he Dead.
Edit: Wait, no, you said the card is first. That facedown card would trigger Tel, which would cancel remaining damage, which would create a paradox because the crit is cancelled and the condition shouldn’t have triggered?

My dice are to blame
if it works it must be right
harpoon Nym for win
So we're back-pedalling on Kylo... unsurprising, as he does nothing to counter Nym.

My favorite is when people compare the Tie Silencer to an E-Wing.
It usually goes something like this....
"Wait...it only has PS9, 6hp, tech, system, boost, br, green hards, native mini predator, green rerolls, and the ability to generate ISTDs....all of those things are bad without regen"
Yes yes good good....they will be extra super bad next to a Shuttle or Deci carrying Palp.

I risk derailing the thread here with actual content, but I'm curious... I personally have not seen the Nym threat in practice. I've burned him down within two turns in all but one of my matches, and the one I failed to do so I ripped him up and my opponent banked away to regroup for a few turns before I got him... Is the difference here that I fly more ships than the average player so have more red dice to throw down range? Typically I'm flying four ships (not normally FSR2 here folks, lets not get crazy, and not alpha strikes either) and I realize the average number of ships is significantly lower, but is that the difference? Does Nym counter 2 ship lists particularly hard? Is the secret to Nym that he's only powerful if allowed to close in to bombing range where his slower ship can bomb everything? Why is Nym so powerful in some matches but so pathetic in others?
(I hesitate to ask if all the Nym players are just bad - because I'm bad so therefor we're fighting on even ground)
Rinzler in a Tie - have you actually run into problems vs Nym? If so, what did you fly?
Ultimately, I'm bad at identifying high level strategy so my question is honest.

You're probably playing bad players.
Took Nym to Nova and played against a lot of other Nyms. He's very powerful but yes, if you play against someone who lets you focus him down, you will probably win.
I fit my Nym with Cruise and TLT so he punishes in all directions and from all approaches.
Also, Sabine and bomblet.

I think that the answer is that most Nym players are not excellent pilots. In the hands of an excellent pilot Nym is very hard to nail down but it is definitely possible. That said, Nym can be great and Kylo still be great, those things are not mutually exclusive. So its not so much back peddling, as much as tempering expectations.

Possibly. There are a lot of bad players then. Or, more likely, it takes a pretty good player to make Nym work and that the average player is unlikely to succeed.
It's a pretty solid Nym. I'm guessing a two ship list, right? Nym is eating a lot of points there, but there's room to play so I could be wrong. Thing is, I'm willing to eat a cruise missile with one ship in a four ship group to pound Nym. Unfair comparison, as we've not established what Nym is flying with, but odds are there might be a single additional missile/torpedo coming from your wing mate if you chose to joust. Anyway, just a curiosity - not challenging you do a duel to the death here.
And yes, Sabine/Omlette Generator is why Nym must die early.

No worries.. Fair assessment, love this list.
Nym's wing mate is Miranda with Homing, Cluster, Adv. SLAM, Seismic, Sabine, etc. 98 points.
I agree there's ways to try and single out Nym, my tactic being to follow Nym with Miranda and her missiles.
Jousting isn't a viable tactic(!), but it's necessary sometimes in order to get through your opponent's ships so bombs can be dropped. I try to avoid jousting. Two 50 points ships win on points most games.
I'm no champ but until slam is nerfed I'm going to rep the list to the ground.

It seems like general sentiment about new ships boil down to.....is it Miranda or Nym? Psshhh nope, ok its obviously over costed trash.
Then while we aren't looking FFG reacts to that and releases another 8 upgrade Turret Monster and we throw our hands up like..................wut happened to muh Arcs..........stup it wit all dat power creep.
Where is the nuance, the middle ground, the patience, the thoughtful logic and careful reasoning........Krayt's Podcast, thats where.
Also can someone please tell me where to purchase an Omlette Generator....its almost elevenses and I am thinking one of those could break my local breakfast meta. @LagJanson

There are two wing mates for Nym that give me pause before I've even analyzed the equipped cards. Dash and Miranda. Each because I'm more worried about them than Nym... A list like that your approach is everything. You nail your approach and you wreck your opponent's list. Fail and you lose something. I doubt I could fly it to the same ability - congrats with your success with it.

You wouldn't want one for food. Bad eggs. Lots of sulfur. AND SALT! Lots of salt!

Oh don't flatter me too much..
I win more than lose but player skill and dice are YUGE.

I haven’t flew TLT Nym yet, but Autoblaster scum Nym should be out of range to bumped in one turn, and then dance range one out of arc or bump a ship every round until they catch you and you die or there is no one left. If you get caught in arcs, you will die in one to two rounds, depending on their firepower.
He is an arc dodger, but one of his best dodges is bumping a ship so it can’t shoot him, and you really need to leverage advanced sensors to get there.
Tyler runs him more as a second alpha strike ship with Dengar, so all this is secondary to getting munitions off. Rebel Nym is some kind of weird Dash/Miranda hybrid, does his best work kiting.
Either way, most of the Nym play you see isn’t great. I refer to Chris “Alpha Nerd” Allen’s comment about early rounds being two people that don’t understand their lists, jousting and seeing what happens.
Is is that one of the other reasons Scum Alpha is so good? Field jank walks into it?
1 hour ago, AEIllingworth said:Is is that one of the other reasons Scum Alpha is so good? Field jank walks into it?
As a bad field jank player, I can confirm this is what happens. Not so much because I think it the optimal option (I know its almost always not) but because I understand that I'm not good enough to flank a jumpmaster, or whatever they are playing.

Krayts, why have you betrayed us? When I woke up, there was no podcast to download. What am I expected to do on the train to work- read the newspaper like a peasant?

Bad players or bad loadouts. You can catch a nym flown by a bad player, or one flown by a good player with accuracy corrector. A well flown AdvS nym doesn't have to be in arc if he doesn't want to.
The other possibility is if you're just flying turrets, then you're negating a lot of nym's strength.
I've got local players who are insisting trajectory simulator will be the correct choice on Nym. I can't wait to play them with my AS Nym with a 5 point bid...
It's interesting how some players see launching 5 forward as another possible spot for your bomb to be, but fail to see the 8+ possible spots that AS gives you. And of course the ability to force a bump, or be out of arc etc.
