I'm not a literary critic... and can't answer what you should do in this wonderful diverse meta we are currently living within.

My solution is far from elegant. I'm going totally fair four ship Rebels... As in... no tricks. I'm just going to apply guns. If guns work, I win. I expect to NOT win a few times, but I should enjoy myself anyway.

Oh man, that was really well played if so - don't worry, we won't make fun of you TOO much for the Jess block in there :)

Seriously, they were good traps you set for Ryad - you lost a few coinflips on which way they would go, and I think that's the best you can do. If you'd gone for the deci they'd just be out and never seen again anyways!

LFDJ (the meta). Fly what you love.

Faction balance is meaningful to me only in the sense that 2 of the 3 factions are basically representative of a specific type of gameplay.

Balance between AOE and Forward Thinking Target Shooting just so happens to be the same thing as comparing Rebel/Scum to Imperial representation in the Top Cut.

Thank you for this by the way!

Also, I really like this ARC vs AOE distinction you make, simple and useful at the same time.

I appreciate that. As soon as I put the Ywing there with flight Astro I went 'uh oh.'

Yes, the Decimator was what I wanted to shoot, but he played it well... Totally didn't see some of his plays coming. Had I gone chasing it I didn't see a good outcome - add that to Ryad being shieldless... Apparently he's got a lot of experience with RAC, and I'd believe it. Lot of fun though. Most of my games were like that actually - and T70 Bro got his revenge for last Nationals... Though another close match there too!

Goal achieved. 5 out of six games were a lot of fun. The one I didn't I tilted myself with a poor engagement... I can't be too angry. I was murdered by Wedge.

One of my smoother games on stream. My hands had nearly stopped shaking since the pretty dramatic trembles I started with. Don't think I bumped too much!

Dropped to 2-3 on stream though...

The streamers actually commented on that. They said that it was one of the smoothest games they'd seen and that the double bomber list from last round was bumping all over the place

The streamers said something nice?!

Edit: sorry- I was thinking the comments posted on the stream not the audio commentary

I think I have something interesting that challenges our feelings: „What is the number of squads with 1 or more ships of shiptype X?“

Total squad numbers is 1825, so I will give first the number, then the rounded % in brackets.

  • 361 with Sheathipedes (20%)
  • 297 with TIE sf (16%)
  • 254 with Auzitucks (14%)
  • 244 with T70 Xwings (13%)
  • 213 with VCX100 (12%)
  • 208 with Gunboats (11%)
  • 198 with Attackshuttles, as indicator for GhostFenn (11%)
  • 176 with Kwings (10%)
  • 172 with YT1300s (9%)
  • 159 with Shadowcasters (9%)
  • 136 TIE defenders (7%)
  • 128 Nym (7%), only 93 with Scum Scurrgs
  • 127 YT2400 (7%)
  • And Bonus: 80 Decimators (4%), which is 14% of all Imperial lists

So... I don‘t have wifi at the moment, I‘ll add the plot later. The reason for the doublepost is that I added the „% of faction“ for all and it‘s definitely interesting... I expanded the list to 25 ships instead of 20

edited the whole list. The graph shows the number of squads with 1+ on the y axis, the ship name on the x axis and every bar has as a label how often this ship made it into a list of the respective faction. The underlying data is below, but it might break the forum formatting a bit...

Congrats to Jeremy Howard (and runner up Duncan Howard) at Canadian Nationals

Bit of a Kraytastrophic match, but it's fun to watch as the world burns.

The live Paul Heaver phone call was one of the greatest moment of xwing history. Too bad it got ruled in that no sense way.

@GreenDragoon I love your works, keep going!

I had to dip out- Did OL die? Last I saw was his un-concession.

He's not mad... He's just disappointed.

OL did eventually die, yes. I'm actually surprised they played that out.

I was laughing at that point. I can't imagine what was going on in Jeremy's head at that moment.

As to the call... Eh... Missed calls happen. It wasn't cheating, I would have preferred to see the harpoon go off, but this is certainly not worth the pitchfork routine. It's just a shame and it likely reinforces Duncan's personal avoidance of playing streamed games.

No one said it was cheating. Missed calls happen, that's why having spectators pointing out game state breaks to judges are a good thing. If anything, it should have made been something in favour of being streamed, what made it wrong was the judges refusal to acknowledge it

How does this challenge our feelings? Frequency of appearance of ships in a squad is, imo, not a good way to look at things. It skews towards lower costs ships that can fit into multiple squad archetypes.

Also, what is the total squad number coming from?

Ok. I don't think failure to acknowledge is the correct scenario. I may also be in a biased position, so will bow out on this one.

To be fair, Twitch chat is wrong 90%+ of the time.

I mean, I had fun calling the TL not being spent when guidance chip would have had the same result (and was the smart more) in the top 8 match. Twitch dog piled that one fast and reminded me why I usually hide that window. So much anger and hate.

For some reason, the Stele Open Chat on youtube seemed so much better for the most part. Don't know why, or why I care, but I would say that everyone wants to think they are better at the game than the top tables, and that they just lost because of the meta, or a cheater, or their dice. I lose, but I know why, and I know what my own personal "win state" is, while many people don't.

Human nature is wonderful. I doubt it's the belief that they are better so much as they are right. Being wrong or pushing too hard doesn't factor because they are right and need to convince the world that they are.

Also, there is currently a discussion about someone threatening to physically attack/shoot a TO in Denver over a destiny cut... what is gaming even anymore?

This saddens me... But I can no longer say it shocks me.
