Tip: Wedge cannot be super broken. Wedge can only exist at the correct power level, or not powerful enough.

It is funny, but also actually very deep. This game lost its way when it stopped using Wedge to benchmark everything else. When they design a new pack, they should always be like "ok, asymmetrical dials, new types of actions, new types of maneuvers, fine. Just make sure that for the points, it's still worse than Wedge." And that should be the extent of their playtesting.

I would absolutely love it if X-wings and TIEs were the overpowered ships, making them your default choice, and all other ships were only useful in niche roles. That is exactly the game I thought I was buying into.

I don't actually think you do. Because the secret is, that 90% of those lists were/should be jousters. Now, we actually have separate pillars in the game, and interactions between them. Really, upgrade cards should make for a more interesting game - and some do - but others don't. Regardless, some ships being "overpowered" while having others be playable is really hard - and even if it is a niche role. Bombing was a niche role, but look were we are now.

Isn’t this just a function of an expanding game? Wave 1 had jousting and efficiency. Niche roles got added here and there, they looked for design space, niche roles grew or had parallels. Eventually there was enough there to design entire squads around a “tool from the toolbox” and go hard at one thing. The meta reactions and tournament format prunes some branches, and we end up with a wonderful topiary of regenning fat turrets and bombs.

It seems like we will get to a degenerate state in any game with ever expanding content, not a dig on x-wing in particular.

This true for basically all things.

Just take him to a regional already

Try:

Wedge, expertise, flight assist, integrated

Norra : VI, Rey, title, flight assist

Jan Ors : adaptability, nien numb, tlt

I know it's like... C tier.... But hey. It's stupid fun.

The PS11 Rebel Alpha with Wedge was quite competitive actually. Not top tier but could hold up well enough. Sadly I think it comes apart versus Ghost/Fenn.

It was a sad day when I watched Wedge/Luke melt to an Lothal's Ezra/Maul fueled TLT maelstrom. The look on that newer players face.

I hold out some kind of naive and infantile hope that we can do some sort of 5 x X-wing swarm and restore balance against the scourge that is Fenn + Ghost. 3 X's won't do it. 3 + Ace, maybe. 5 might be the magic number.

I am hopeful for a 3 X with room for an Ace thematically, but I don't think it will be A New Hope.

My primary concern with Ghost/Fenn around is the fact that experienced players know how to attack it and keep reasonable win rates, but it confuses/dumpsters newer/less experienced players who show up to play and don't know the first thing about approaching it. It risks presenting competitive X-Wing in a poor light for those trying to get started.

Quote from a new player after introducing Ghost/Fenn to them:

"I liked it. The little one was fun. It was nice to have two that shoot backwards and the thing that rolls two times that count as one each is good. Its fun that the little one stops things and I like how fast the big one is"

The younglings shall inherit the galaxy.

Let us know how we're supposed to attack it plz

This Top 16 list is the closest thing to the physical embodiment of "Living Free" I have seen so far.

I know there are always lots of outliers due to swiss jank...but still thanks England.

Copy paste add to List of stuff to try.

A different player went 5-1 (and top 32) with it at the London regional as well.

Advanced Optics and FCS are so ridiculously good. It kinda makes sense that lists with more of them work.

Best part about this list is how amazing the 3 ships look on the table together though.

Aesthetically 2x Tie/SFs and Kylo Silencer or 2x Strikers and Kylo Silencer are some of the coolest looking lists possible.

This takes things to another level visually by adding another Tie Silencer.

Locally, we have a few players who have done some solid work with that 32 point Silencer build. It's combination of speed, hitting power, defense, action efficiency, and time on target is really terrific.

Yea it looks really fun. I want to try one out with Advanced Sensors just to give one that extra bit of flexibility to block stuff.

Red Squadron so jelly though. What if Jess Pava could be in a list twice...

Just bought my second Silencer yesterday, so I might have to consider this one!

Although I have to admit I have yet to fly Quickdraw (When the ship first came out, I was convinced Backdraft was better, and then I bought two more SF's so that I could spam the EPT generics. Then the new hotness came out and I didn't fly my SF's again. So I guess the only TIE/SF I've never flown is the best one...)

So yeah... wow...

I usually watch full screen and so had never really noticed how bad twitch/youtube chat was, so when I heard that whole segment about it in last weeks cast I didn't think much of it. But it made me pay a bit more attention when watching the streams this weekend and just... holy crap there are a lot of people out there whose absolute certainty in their opinion of what move should be dialed in is only matched by how utterly and objectively wrong that opinion is.

I mean yeah I occasionally see someone make a really boneheaded move on stream, but the vast majority of the time even when someone makes the (in hindsight) non-ideal move you can at least see the hamsters running on a wheel in their head screaming "But does he know that he knows that I know that he knows that I know!?!" But man some of the chat warriors, I can't tell if they're legally blind or just really really bad. And the worst thing is that even when the actual move happens and they're proven wrong by the power of geometry they don't even realize it and keep spouting off about what a scrub the player is

I agree

Advanced plan for fixing X-wing:

Step 1: Get ~160 lackeys

Step 2: Rig regional so some wholesome stuff wins

Step 3: Make it the first regional

Step 4: get everyone to netlist from it.

Boom. Problem solved. Also, If home missiles were 4 points, would you use them or harpoons? And if Advanced Homing missiles were range 2-3 would you use them?
