if this thread reaches 1337 pages i will give my definition of ace, and everyone will be disappointed

And he doesn't even have to fully complete maneuver!
Blocking should hard counter all the words!

I actually agree.

An Ace is boba fett but only if he has maul crew

But why draw the line at words? Why not agility, or shields?
How does it make the game better if the only form of value not lost after a bump is baseline stats?

By making my opponent feel bad.

It will certainly pale compared to stories about losing things on boats.
Make boats great again!
edit: at least you have 270 pages to make a face-saving definition 💪

i've always had a (totally underwhelming) definition, I have no intent on putting effort into anything more than that. I disappoint people at a high rate, so i'm not too worried
1 hour ago, ThinkingB said:The first step is for FFG to actually define slow play beyond the abstract. Do they even suggest what a reasonable amount of time is anywhere in the tournament regs? There just needs to be more on the book: dials shall take X length of time. Either that or a set number of rounds (16 sounds fun). Situations like this though make me more skeptical of if X-Wing is even a good game for competitive play at all because there are too many opportunities for the game to be interrupted, disturbed, cheating, and so on. The more I play in OP, the more I am convinced that the best format for X-wing is casual with beer.
I'm not sure that's actually the best solution. Defining those things is difficult, enforcing those definitions is virtually impossible. Your earlier comment on incentivation on the other hand was spot on. The best way to prevent slow play is not the legislate it away, rather it's to make it not worth doing. If winning at time is worth less than a total wipe in terms of making cut (however that looks, lots of people have had lots of suggestions) then people will naturally alter their behavior to set their dials faster, run away less, and in general bring the game to a conclusion

No, he and a Jedi are species in the genus of passive modders. Reroll =/= focus manipulation. If it were, I'd fly a lot more Lone Wolf and its 5 pt price tag instead of taking things like gas clouds or advanced optics. Repeated rerolling a blank into a blank isn't nearly as good as force. Sure, blank to blank happens in the minority, but force has a 100% conversion rate. For this reason, people are not just sleeping on Rey, but straight up hibernating on her.
Don't get me wrong. Boba is S tier. But his passive reliability is not the same as that of a Jedi's.

This renders certain ships types and list types to near unusable status since your expectations of doing well have decreased. Bye bye classic TIE Fighters.

Very much. Rey is the version of Boba the panic buttons should be smashed over: a brawler that only bleeds whilst dealing loads of damage, giving the endgame a great setup.
Using force and focus to 100% success rates at any range is dank.

🤨 Tournament regs Pg 7, text only version.
"End of Round
Each tournament round ends in one of the following ways:
• One Player Defeated: At the end of a game round, all of one player’s ships have been removed by being destroyed or fleeing the battlefield. The player with at least one ship remaining immediately earns a win and the opposing player receives a loss.
• Mutual Destruction: At the end of a game round, all of both players’ ships are destroyed. Players follow the rules for “Final Salvo” below using all of their ships to determine the winner.
• Time: At the end of a game round, the round time limit has been reached. (If time is called during a game round, players must finish that game round.) The player with the greater score receives a win, and the opponent receives a loss. If both players have the same score, they follow the rules for “Final Salvo” below to determine the winner.
• Concession: A player voluntarily concedes defeat at any point during the game. All of that player’s ships are destroyed. The conceding player receives a loss and the opponent receives a win. Remember that collusion among players to manipulate scoring is forbidden, and the scores should still be calculated based on the final game state (including the winner’s destroyed and damaged ships) (see “Unsporting Conduct” on page 2)."

The slow play "problem" (not "slow play" players) is not an easy one to fix. Lists are highly customizable and provide different styles of play. It's caused by many levels of different traits of the game and only in a timed tournament setting. Is it really a problem? That depends on what the individual point of view is. I'm not entirely sure it is a problem, though sometimes running out of time can be disappointing.

Satisfactory conclusion. Better?
Just now, Makaze said:Satisfactory conclusion. Better?
So subjective and narrowly biased that only one of the end states covered by the regs is "valid"... I think introspection and being proactive with contacting judges when you suspect someone is intentionally stalling is more in order than changing the rules to fit that narrow bias.

I mean, im not sure it's narrow bias to say if someone is simply not enjoying the game.
Like, it doesnt mean the game has to be CHANGED, but it's cool if someone doesn't enjoy the current meta or game, right?

can you use green instead of grey so that the colors on your chart more closely represent the great families of rokugon?

yeah, you don't fly aces, the only true form of x wing
