Go listen to the last minute of the Birmingham Barons. I think it was their last episode, but I could be wrong.

Lol. That was a glass of water. The noise was intended to challenge Andrew's resolve not to use the restroom before recording. (It worked, by the way.)

Oh. My mistake. ;)

Unacceptable! This thread must never again be relegated to page 2.

Please don't burgle this threads agency - it can be on whatever page it chooses.

Bumping it in this manner is no better than advanced slamming a bomb, and according to Reddit that's cheating now.

Dee doesn't understand true things... he just steals Kraytvented ideas to sound smart

I agree

Clone wars names on point...

Nobody else is gonna mention Bob's malapropism on the latest S&V in which he invokes the name -- innocently, really, although Ricky jumped on it laughing -- "Cry-Ats."

That's pretty sweet.

Jeff you are literally the only person who doesn't like the Krayts. How does it feel from your law castle in the magical fairyland that is California?

GET OVER IT JEFF. WE HEAR YOU. OK?

The weird calling everything control was kind of lost on me, but then again I sort of stopped listening to it at that point.

Nice episode, as always audio was quite shaky and salt was thick and caked on and crumbly. I expect nothing more and nothing less. And I will continue to listen to every episode as this is the best podcast.

I agree.

At least they're still talking about implementation/execution of current ships, even if the game is going south.

Others are literally quitting, which is sad to me because Mynock used to be my favorite before they started pandering and apologizing...
Dee - be unapologetic!

Everything is control. If what you brought and how you move isn't making your opponent either unhappy or having to chose between two bad options you're doing it wrong.

This.

I forgot to say this on the cast, as an example, but the phrase "quantity has a quality of its own" works in games.

Rephrased, aggro *is* a form of control in and of itself, which not everyone consciously realizes, and the aggro player needs to leverage this form of control [when able] to maximize their chance of winning.

Don't leave anything on the table.

It may be useful to differentiate between types of control. There is the standard types of control people think of: ion, stress, blocking, which all involve taking something away from your opponent (maneuver choices, actions, will to live). Then there's what Travis was talking about, which is forcing poor choices. There was a guy in Armada who calls it tempo , which seems a pretty apt description of what you're doing. By bringing strong attacks, or bombs, or ships that can joust, yes you're 'denying' areas by threatening damage, but you could also think of it as tempo, as pressuring your opponent into making suboptimal decisions (bad positioning or fly over a bomb). They're both control, one is just taking things away, while the other is making the opponent choose what gets taken.

Control and tempo are two different things - one is denial, an outright NO YOU CAN'T, and the other is about pacing.

Example of tempo: Triple HCS with Quickdraw, Lt. Dormitz, and (say) Zeta Leader - your goal is to setup at PS12, first turn alpha strike the ship that can destroy Dormitz, and then fly ZL and QD until they die, leaving Dormitz to clean up (EU, FCS, and PA can do work with a 4-dice primary!) That's tempo - you're forcing the pace of the game into a place that's uncomfortable for the enemy and maintaining that pace.

Control is removing their options, or making them less powerful - Biggs is a control piece because it removes the enemy's options for shooting. Dengar is a tempo piece because while he doesn't REMOVE the enemy's options, he gets +1 attack over the opponent's count for free, setting his player's pace over the opponent's. Ion Cannon is obviously control (because they HAVE to do the ion'ed maneuver), whereas R3-A2 is tempo - they don't HAVE to do the green to clear the stress, but if they don't then they're hampered.

It's a fine distinction, but to old MtG players like myself, it's an important one. Tempo gets you ahead on the boardstate, control restricts what your opponent can do to the boardstate.

So, podcast. It's okay. Don't much care for podcasts in general myself to be honest. Seems like a fair bit of screwing around with your buddies and not talking JUST X-Wing, which is perfectly fine and obviously has an audience.

Honestly as lately I have been very disappointed in the podcast. Instead of acting as the voice of reason they have jumped on the hate bandwagon and rumor proliferation. I get it, there are things that are obviously stronger than others, but seriously they are acting like the same balance of 40k or Star Wars Armada, or Star Wars the Decipher card game. I missed Nova squadron.

Speaking of control, thank god someone fixed that ******* fan noise that plagued you guys a few episodes ago. Episodes 16 and 17 were a little ragged. I guess it's all part of the experience.

I would disagree and consider stress, especially double stress, to be control. With double stress, while you are leaving them the option of which movement to take, you are fairly flatly stating that they will almost certainly not be getting an action this turn. Even with a single stress if they elect not to take a green that often typically leads them right down the road to double stress, assuming they don't just die from a lack of repositioning and/or tokens. There is a choice involved but in either case you're either several constraining their movement options or action options, that feels very control to me.

Kryats and Mynocks should join forces.
