Had a great game against Oli with Chopper+7bAni. That is a pretty much broken combo. Fortunately I had Vader, who possibly cares the least, but wow.

Also, 5th bro! Great against 7b jedi

I assume 5th Bro with Homing missiles? Can't dodge those.

If you can't get out of arc, a gas cloud on a focused 3 native agi or even an asteroid for a TIE/D or a stealth TIE/ph will work more often than not. If the missiles hit, there is a good chance that he wouldn't have the force to ability on top. But if he's firing his missiles at a ship that cares, you might have messed something up. Thus, given the choice only between range 1 or obstructed sufficiently, take the range 1 and mess his stuff up.

Fenn Rau matchups are interesting against him. It's not enough to maul him, as at 1 hp he can K turn and launch his payload. He gotta die.

Oh I had a focus. 4hits and a crit are delicious, no matter what you roll.

But what if the cost of performing an action to get out of bullseye is trivial to the Ace? E.g. any Delta-7, Vader, Kylo, soontir, whisper, etc?

I wouldn't call taking a stress token trivial. Stressed soontir and kylo is much sadder than unstressed. Much more blockable and you can follow up on them.

There is something to be said about depleting ships force. Although it doesn't 'feel' as good, it does limit the ships mod options, specifically if they shoot first.

Whisper is whisper 🤷‍♂️

The cost of getting out of a bullseye is also less trivial if it costs them a shot or puts them into extra arcs....

Early experiment with streaming (lots of issues identified to work on), but some rambling on language in miniatures games

I think we're answer the question of why people post on forums.

Because they're bored at work. At home, there's much better things to do.

You joke, but I know my posting has massively dropped since I am working from home, I have better distractions :D

Posting about X Wing is not insignificantly linked to playing X Wing.

There is only so much significance I can draw from playing Aces Mario High Surprise Wing with the boy...

Aside from noting that playing random combos from all possible formats and crossing them with completely different games can be pretty fun.

We did do one traditional 200pt match with a twist that was truly awesome though, so I'll try alleviate some forum boredom by sharing it. Idea came from one of our Squad, so no credit here, we just road-tested it and thrashed out the nuts and bolts.

Twist! Your entire squad is secret. The only thing the opponent sees is your ships and a discreet stack of cards for each, with the pilot face down on top. No tokens ate added, to preserve the mystery of shield upgrade or not, and so on. You add flipped ones as they are spent.

Deploy at I1, move at I1, unless you wish to reveal a pilots initiative. As you use a card, you reveal it.

Example, 1st engage happened all at I1, with no reveals. I flipped Vader crew, popped a flipped force next to my Reaper and dealt a flipped shield to one of his 3 x1s. My boy decided to use FCS on each attack, pulled them from his stack and flipped them as he went. I revealed Feroph on the last attack to get his evade. And so on.

2 illustrative examples of how much it affects gameplay and the SURPRISE MFER factor at work.

I reveal my I1 Striker is in fact Vagabond with Bombadier and Proxies-

RM6g1g5.jpg

He nopes me by revealing that the x1 about to plow through it is actually Ved Foslo-

This was my full, stupid, squad. It was hilarious.

When your tight game comes down to two Proud Trad Omegas of equal bids engaging in a wet noodle slapping fest:

Speaking of distractions, I started playing Division 2 again with some friends. An update dropped yesterday, resulting in so much rage.

It made me think how I enjoyed the community so much more when I started playing competitive X-Wing, but enjoyed the game, itself, a good deal less when I learned how I was "doing it wrong". Weird.

I'm never going to that Div2 reddit again. There's no upside to learning how I'm playing that game wrong.

My most played video game is FIFA. Trust me. This community is fine. Close to perfect.

I'm rooting for @RStan this round of Space Jam because this FO Imposter fancies himself "Kylo Chris" without fielding a single Silencer. Heresy!

I logged onto the forums to see if the force/ace/samemeta gsp top cut had moved any of the pro-extended-holdouts needles and instead it was a an empty house full of cobwebs

Tbf, a lot of what was brought was the same, with people reprising their World's/World's invites lists. The meta still has to shake a bit. Was hoping to see more of the shiny new anti-ace pieces like Vagabond, K2SO, the Droid M3A, Nomb Lumb + Dengunner, and 5th Bro (at least, he'll be catching on and emphasize the power of jamming off locks with actions or Mag Pulses by functioning as that target to block/jam). Or new high init high mod lists, like Vonreg + Quickdraw + Kylo/LWBlackout/Holo--there are a lot of options out there for most factions. Not to sound like a Vassal elitist, even though Vassal is better than TTS, but the Vassal extended scene is diverse. Glad that the It's The Resistance droid was made to do some good stuff though.

Either Europe or Australia will have preference for sign-ups on the next Space Jam. They tend to be more innovative/wacky than the US meta. Seeing that the tourney went smoothly, I'm tempted to jump in the wait list for one of those only to get steamrolled with lesser used Empire or FO stuff. But even going 0-6 will have a better MOV than 0-2 drop for sure.

Congrats to this weekend's finishers all the same.

There haven't really much chance to develop any extensive extended meta yet and with a 20 bucks sign up I am not surprised that a lot of people just packed their good old stuff from times past. Lots of people playing their first online TTS tournament also. I wouldn't go all ESPN analysts on this trying to find content to cement your opinions about any meta.

With that said - Dengar on top of swiss. *giggles*

So for my part, I didn’t know what the meta would look like, whether it would have evolved or stayed frozen (in carbonite?) since the IRL play ground to a halt, and most of my live tournament play this year was Hyperspace (or prepping for same). Also didn’t feel dealing with grumbles from my opponents again for playing four Phantoms this weekend, so I netdecked Oli’s list a few weeks ago and played that this tournament instead (and instead saw grumbles about jumping on a bandwagon).

Other than the Phantom bit, I wonder if other people’s list decision process was similar. In the absence of a high volume of events and the hyper meta awareness we get from MetaWing, List Fortress,PBM, ATC, et al, I have to assume the meta just develops a lot slower, and people latch on to ol’ reliables?

Incidentally, I got paired with Oli in Swiss for the pure mirror match, losing the initiative roll and subsequently the game. The ultimate punishment for the cardinal sin of netlisting! Thankfully he’s a pleasure to play against, so it was still a ton of fun.

Also incidentally, despite being a filthy despicable bandwagon-jumping netlister, I did spend some games experimenting with adjustments and variations to his list but never found anything that was satisfyingly better. I’m not in love GrInq in it, but I feel like switching for Soontir is just trading one set of strengths and weaknesses for another, and you lose the ability to dangle Inq out like bait. I tried 2x TIEs and think there might be options there (either APs and upgrades for the aces, or Crack blacks) but it’s hard to leverage their value in some games, and people certainly don’t chase them like they chase GrInq. A single Imdaar Test Pilot might be viable (and again, more room for upgrades on the proper aces), but I haven’t tested it.

Spoiler, bring i5 and i6 passive mod mobile ships. We dont really need any data to know that extended is essentially the same game that it has always been. If you just want to make cut bring a good joust list and watch people joust you.

Vader Soontir GI is excellent as well. Whisper obviously is a more complete Jedi and likely remains correct but the 2nd i6 bids deeper and can dunk on variations of the Empire Mirror. Also mostly deletes the mirror against the Republic equivalent, and helps a bunch against Supernatural Boba. Certainly weaker against a few things but frees up pts you can use to mitigate that.

I dont think this is a case of people not knowing the meta.

We have been playing variations on “you pick 3” from Whisper, Soontir, Redline, Vader etc since Coruscant.

Only legitimate changes to that have been Republic Regen Aces and Sun Fac.
