Carolina Krayts is the best X-Wing podcast

Haven't seen this discussed elsewhere but the Rules Reference update changes the timing of "after destroyed" triggers to after the attack that kills them resolves instead of the end of the initiative step, so TA-175 now works in a much more generous way. It also costs 9 points now. BUT Hyenas got cut to 25 so you can run a very beefy Ocho with not-glitterstim, or you can cut that down to 7 with DBS-32C + TA-175 for the calculate pinata, depending on your preferences. I'm curious who will end up winning the beef off that we're heading into.

Anyone else have a bit of a feeling that, for a lot of stuff, they didn't really think about it much and just threw it out of hyperspace?

Is it an issue that Crack Shot is picked far and above any other talent? Who cares, it's not hyperspace.

Are there potential issues with Pattern Analyzer and various ship interactions? Pay it no mind, it's not hyperspace.

I guess there was a lot of balance in some of the Extended-only ships, but it's just a bit of a feeling I'm having.

My rule for the past year has been to only fly hyperspace-legal squads even in extended events because I can't afford to split practice time. Now I feel like my options for a hyperspace squad that'll be fine in extended are... limited.

Just good decision making while you play. It's a super fun list, im glad it looks like it got unbanned.

such a good list. you get rewarded for be good and punished for being "bad." I think my favorite list to fly ever.

Kylo is looking really solid in HS because he's one of the last 3 dice force users in that format.

Uhhhhh, they are going to let me fly seven i2 fireballs with dead man’s switch?

Maybe with that attitude...

Hyperspace has so few I6 pilots.

I look at the squads I can make in YASB for hyperspace, and I am not sure what to think.

Buckle up, 6 months of Fenn + 3 fangs or 5 X-wings is going to be fun.....?

Yes. Also. You lack creativity. We need more yeetdowns

I’m still tempted to borrow another Scyk so I can fly seven with autoblasters... I’m really, really tempted, in case anybody has wondered about that yet.

Call me pessimistic if you must, but bet 3 month's down the line the 3 most played factions will be Scum, Fo, and Empire, with Resistance and rebels trailing, and Republic bringing up the rear, because people still love aces and hate generics. Idk where CIS fits in all of this. I'd expect early experimentation with swarms before Wave 6 drops and people start gravitating back towards triple aces.

Hope

They gave me back my 1.0 GenCon 2018 list. Kind of. I was not expecting that.

can haz Wave 2 rookie plastic card trade, plz? Need 2 moar!

Can we get a hope/reality faction card for rebels? I’d be totally down for that.

Both my HST finalist lists gain buffs (fit in 200 again and gain a pt extra in bid, respectively), but lose HS legality. I will pounce on this ability to pretend that I field healthy stuff.

Might as well, given that this weekend is the last FO HS I fly before I, like so many, descend into the degeneracy of the undercosted TIE ba and all its undercosted upgrades. No longer will FO faction prizes be in my reach...

big confuse reacc

Honestly, after some more thought: this update was yuuuge.
It opened up so many things that it will be true wild west again, and I love that! But it also feels like many degenerate lists will now be possible, and I don't love that.

At least I have plenty of lists to play

They still have it.

Aggressors- The Imperial version.

They will like missile pods instead, I guess. Would have preferred to lose that slot for something different. The wait continues....

Doubtful. I tried 4 Autoblaster Scyks (one Serissu) plus Seevor and Ahaav under the old points. Resilient, but too low damage output.

--------

So in very broad strokes:

Aces mostly unaffected.

Force mostly unaffected.

A lot of generics down.

Overall many things going down, so the few that go up, go up a lot comparatively.

Up goes:

Empire Jendon +2, Iden +1, Howlrunner +6 (her friends go down though, so dependent on composition can be a wash), Jonus +2

Rebels Braylen +1, Leia +1

Scum Torkil +1, Serissu +1

Resistance no one

FO no one

Republic Obi +1 ( he is still a lot less than he was first)

Separatists Sear +6, TA +4, ensnare up

It is beautiful! Hyperspace legal:

  • 5A; 4X (Poe+3, 4 blacks)
  • 5 Tempests+Passive; Howl-free TIE swarm maybe?; 6 Strikers
  • 4B; 5X
  • 4 Fangs
  • SepSwarm with the command Hyena and 7 vultures
  • 4 CLT Jedi
  • Avengers miniswarm; 5SF

Every faction has a nice spam list. "Nice" haha

If you take a closer look at the top Hyperspace lists in wave 5 then only 3 out of 20 remain legal!

Number 9 and 10 (Boba Fenn, 2 Firesprays), and then the Faux salad on nr20. Note that nr17 uses Quickdraw who dropped out.

It might make sense to look at a larger timeframe now, but it doesn't change the top20 much wrt legal lists. I work under the assumption that non-afterburners Vader is not good enough. But even if he was, he only shows up in lists with inqs and Soontir. Sill 3 legal lists, and the 3rd is now 5SFs.

This was definitely an interesting change!

Truth be told, I’ve found the same without Drea.

Change my view: This points update is almost a textbook case of power creep.

Is the creep because bottom power level is increasing, or top power level is increasing?

Another half a days worth of sinking in. I maybe found a hole I don't like.

HS looks like a field day for Fangs and Sprays, I'm happy with that.

Most of my Extended things got extra toys, happy with that.

However, in extended, I used to enjoy running trip ace with a twist, words and moar skills, rather than straight Init and efficiency. A love of I4s. Felt like I've had to backburner a lot of that sort of thing thanks to the dominance of I5 and I6 point fortress, repo and regen/massive ship counts. Instead, I've looked to counter both swarm/beef and true ace ends of the spectrum with other methods for the last couple months.

It's worked out alright for a bit. New points seem to suggest it still will, (my Scum have room for even more tricks). The large spread of point drops also gives us a better array of low Init vs high Init match ups. Seems good.

But I4 trip ace lists are maybe just permanently behind the curve now. It's possible even the more edge case 4xI4 lists are gonna have a hard time without a whole pile of hitpoints or, you know, mobile fortress shenanigans.

Have a nagging feeling the power level has been pushed further towards I5/6, and beef/swarm. A little differently, but still.

Anyone have any thoughts on how the extended meta will develop from here?
