Make obstacles matter again!
Also, ion clouds. Finally! Here's to hope that FFG tests the waters.

Making an environment card a declared stipulation for a given event seems...doable? I don't believe it for a real event, but I can hope.

Maybe system opens? Different planets with different environments? All the same per year?
Or HS trials, changing per season?

Would be a good way to shake things up.

My dream:

- The Tournament Organizer announces three Environment cards well in advance. Not the whole set, since that's just too many to keep track of.
- The player with the deepest bid either:
- Chooses first player, and the other player picks the environment.
- Chooses which of the three environments, and the other player determines first player.
love to get outbid by sun fac who passes me second player with my i4 or lower list and then picks ion clouds
Edited by svelok22 hours ago, Brunas said:That being said, yes, I've been messing around with FO generics a lot in my free time. I've been incredibly disappointed across the board. For example, in the squad you listed you've spent 134 points on 2 FOs and 2 SFs. I would argue something like this is strictly (or as near to strictly as possible) better than those generics for the same price:
Iden Versio (40)
Crack Shot (1)“Howlrunner” (40)
Crack Shot (1)Gideon Hask (30)
Crack Shot (1)Del Meeko (30)
Crack Shot (1)
Total: 144
Been thinking about this since you mentioned it. Not sure if this is strictly better? I would suspect (without real live testing) that the FO generics (either chassis) tend to be better ships if the game goes later. The 4 TIE block above probably loses its first ship a touch later (about one 3-die shot later, based on quick ship durability calculator query) which is not trivial, but once that block loses Howlrunner, it loses a ton of potency. On the other hand, the FO generics (especially with Optics) continue to be viable attackers, with decent time on target from the TIE/sf's (not on the level of an RZ-2 but likely superior to a TIE/ln) and superior dial from the TIE/fo's.
Matchup dependent, I might prefer the FO stuff. It's worse as a block but the individual pieces are all arguably better. I'm possibly underselling the impact of Crack Shot in this analysis, though.
Also I would ask this: if all other points remained the same, but Crack Shot went +1 and Advanced Optics went -1, would that change the equation for you?
Incidentally, Kylo + 2 Zeta SF + 2 Epsilon FO won a 47-player HS Trial this weekend. Avenger plus generic spam made Top 8 at a 38-player Trial the weekend before. Not saying this proves anything (it probably doesn't!), and I certainly am not arguing that the Epsilon is "the best generic" because frankly I don't even know what that means (if it even means anything at all), but I definitely think it's a ship you can put in a list and win important games with. Hotter take, I think that description applies to the majority of FO.
Yes, there's nothing stopping a local TO from making kit events use environment cards. I suggest something like bitterFig's recommendation above. Have the TO pick 3 that are active for an event, and then either randomly choose one of them each round, cycling between all of them, or have the bidding player choose if he wants to pick first player or the environment.
We did one in the NOVA area recently, just using the spoiled Minefields environment, for a change of pace. I wouldn't make every event use it, but it's fun to mix things up.
Proposal:
Environment cards are part of your list for competitive play and players are required to have all components to use them. Player who has iniative chooses which environment card to use for the match.

thanks I hate it
We need to price is right bet on the most expensive bwing that goes at least 3-3 at a national level or higher event.
Braylen Stramm (51)
Outmaneuver (6)
Passive Sensors (3)
Heavy Laser Cannon (4)
Jamming Beam (0)

Exactly! Because the obvious question of mandatory environment is: how do you get the stuff for all participants?
This solves it. It would even allow FFG to put a price tag* on the choice if it turned out to be too good, or simply ban it.
*and break the ice on starting games at 0 to 5. not saying it's likely, but FFG just gave themselves new space to explore.

Go Stealth Device. Braylen with the red linked Evade at Range 3?

Well, atleast they have to complete the barrel roll to get the red evade...
Apolo is insane. Looking forward to him even more than Vonreg, bizarrely enough.
Easy evades for Silencers. Tossing foci to friends. Ditching stress, deplete, tractor, strain, ion, disarm, etc to a mook. Difficult to master with that MUST, but such a high skill ceiling. It's like FTC the pilot! Can also Composure!
Also, Rush is Redline confirmed. Check the subtitles.

Oh.
I don't know, I plan on taking composure, hiding them next to gas clouds, and focus/evading and just being mamaroo.
That seems way easier than being good at the game

I think they mean pick first player as in choose who goes first, not choose to be first player. So in this case you would get to pick first or second player.
