How long can this go on?

I think I've gotten to the point that the only reason I want new ships to come out is to continue FFG support of the game. If they could guarantee the competitive scene would be supported and new players would continue to buy in, I couldn't care less if another new ship or upgrade was ever made. In fact, the chance that some new stupid card like snap shot ruining a perfectly wholesome game scares me more.

Which kinda leads me to my next though. How much longer do we have with this game until it goes the way of Imperial Assault and Armada? We run out of new stuff and the community slows down and OP support drops off. How long can this go on?

I'm with you on new OT ships.

However, I look forward to new ships for the other 4 factions.

At some point, in a few years, we'll be back to the end of 1.0, where they're clearly digging at the bottom of the barrel for ideas, but a lot of the clone wars era stuff just looks and feels cool.

But as for the design/competitive aspect - I'd really like points updates more often than 2x a year - that's the easiest way to keep the game feeling fresh, even with 'old' ships.

I completely agree here. The ability for them to drastically change the meta via points has made for a great environment in second edition so far. I'm glad they've had the guts to make big changes instead of such tiny tweaks that terrible ships continue to be terrible and the oppressive stuff stays oppressive.

I think X-Wing has demonstrated that there's a persistent want for something like this on the market. Even if X-Wing goes somewhere, something will fill that void.

Ahem

Part of the recent AMA was a discussion of how card packs can be a way to add new content without scraping the bottom of the EU barrel. I'd really love to have some more TIE Interceptor pilots...

The addition of subtitles to the pilot cards combined with card packs is all the future proofing they need. They could put out new versions of favorite pilots and weird cross faction things (i.e. shuttle Tydirium) for years.

Sooontir Fel and Soooontir Fel would be great!

Soontir Fel has been a clone of a mysterious 'Sontir Fel' this whole time!

I thought it was really cool when they gave everyone subtitles, I thought it would be a cool way to differentiate between pilots using different ships besides just referring to them by their ship. Sure, nobody would do that, but it was still cool.

...and then they went and gave Anakin the same subtitle in both the Aethersprite and the Y-Wing!

I'm possibly the only person who is annoyed at this.

TL;DR - Republic, nay, X-Wing on the whole, is literally unplayable now.

EDIT: Okay so I guess Garven, Norra, etc already did this. So I'm inattentive AND the game has never been playable.

@DoubleDown11 yet Anakin in the N1 has a different subtitle.

It seems likely that they’ll only use le subtitles for duplicates of pilots with different abilities, at this point. And I’m okay with that, I just hope we don’t have to wait for the entirety of 1e to be rereleased into 2.0, before it happens.

Jedi Knight Luke is probably the most likely example that I think we will eventually see. Hopefully Actis Ani has a different ability/subtitle, too, though. (Not “Darth Vader” Ani, either. I’m down for that at some point, but it shouldn’t be the only Actis Ani.)

My only worry with card packs is that they won't be able to make much money off of them. I guess we'll see what the pricing is like but sadly I can see the community getting upset if they cost much more than their impressions of how much printing cards costs, yet if we want to see this as a viable way to keep the game fresh it really needs to be reasonably profitable for them still.

I imagine the margin on card packs are probably pretty good since they don't require sculpting/manufacturing/painting a new model or all that much development work since the ship chassis has been designed and well tested at that point. I'd be happy to pay $15-20 every 3-6 months to have a steady drip of low-effort new content for the legacy factions.

What do folks think the price difference will be between Rebel and Republic Y-Wings for same-initiative Generics?

Results after about 1 day:

Republic +2 (36.5%) WINNER!!!

Republic +1 (39.5%)

+0 (17.3%)

Rebel +1 (3.9%)

Points are up and we don't have Krayt analysis yet? I am disappointed!

i suspect the margins are really really good. People pretty happily pay $15 for 60 or so cards in the lcg model, and i suspect you can dial that "value" down a bit and the market will bear it.

highest amounts of mad

  • nothing is rotated out of hyperspace
    • why does this format even exist anymore
    • I'm mad about it
    • so much wasted potential
  • sun fac naked is more than soontir fel
    • mad about this too
  • sun fac with ensnare is like a thousand points
    • I am in fact not mad about it
    • it might still be too cheap
  • precog is only 10 points on obi-wan
    • seething
    • republic games might never end before time again
    • I'm doomed to keep being mad about obi-wan until january I guess
  • ahsoka is only 12 points
    • m a d

medium amounts of mad

  • the nantex not at i6 might be pretty strong with their more aggressively cheap ensnare
    • still mad about sun fac being 54 base
    • chertek and berwer and generics all seem plausibly good
    • ensnare as cheap as 10 for the lower inits is probably a mistake
    • deflection is maybe overpriced or maybe not, I'm not sure
  • anakin at 60 seems maybe too high
    • I'm not mad, jedi are the enemy
  • oddball is more than norra
    • why is oddball more than norra?
  • I'm just gonna put precog in every category because jesus why
    • stop trying to give jedi pre-dial reposition
    • the game doesn't need this, just stop
    • why

low amounts of mad

  • snap and foresight seem maybe fine
    • I'm not confident snap is fine
    • I'm also not confident foresight is fine
  • I don't care about targeting computer
    • also they robbed the nantex of its mod slot
    • why is only Vader allowed to have afterburners?
  • precog
    • precog
  • contraband cybers is hyperspace legal now
    • dorsal turret still isn't for some reason
    • I wish this format was good

Hahahaha 😆 I meant more that it's probably a lot easier to develop pilots for ships that have seen actual use in the wild for a year or more rather than try to come up with good pilot abilities based on just initial playtesting.

Ensnare Face being 78 points is fine, or maybe too cheap. But in what world is naked Fac as good as naked soontir?

As a CIS main these past months, I'm totally fine with ensnare at 50 points. But come on, here! Sun Fac without ensnare doesn't have a pilot ability barring some stupid Heightened Perception Dooku stupidity. He can repo at the cost of agility, but can't use it to turn around faster. He has a 3-doce primary, but only in bullseye, which is a mechanic I LOVE but not at 54 points.
