What kind of bourgeois monster owns a printer in this day and age?

Seriously though, is it a problem? Are printers somehow inaccessible?

I see different solutions:

  • Update the form. The current one is a hideous artefact from 1.0, include half points, make it more legible. FFG wants the game to be competitive, then provide some groundwork.
  • Almost everyone has the list on their phone I guess. Show the QR code to your opponent if you don't have a printed list, and he can scan it with launchbay. Obviously the official builder needs a QR scan function and a tournament feature, but the community got us covered.
  • Make it mandatory for premier level events to have a QR code or a printed full-information list ready and available.

Also I always wondered how long it'd take for people to notice the European WAAC mask slipping.

I knew about it in theory, especially Germany and Poland. But seeing it in action myself... nope, #NotMyGame

Soontir activates, "oh soontir would get the focus". I say no, you can't do that anymore, you missed it. He puts the focus down, attacks, spends a focus on attack. I repeat that he can't put the focus down. I attack, nattie hit-crit-crit. Soontir defends, rolls 3 eyes.

I'm sorry for your experience but i think Soontir ability is mandatory. There is not a "may" clause.

Is not the same as recovering Force charges?

And about handwritten lists, i'm with you. We need the info and the half points in a game where a lot of matches finish on time.

If you don't own one and are making last minute decisions on your list, of course. Sometimes I'll remember/be prepared enough and get something printed at work.

Hahaha, that makes the clusterfck even better! The whole game was horrible, start to finish. That makes it even worse 🤦🏻‍♂️

Since we're already adding feedback from the Euros.

First, I'm pretty sure we played the Finn mirror match up for the last game of the day. And I must admit one of the more fun games I had.

That being said, for Euros in general most of my matches were fine, but there were two matches that completely threw me off my game.

Now what I am about to say might came of as a bit bad, and I apologize for stereotyping, but after playing the Euros and playing a couple of other international events, I am starting to notice a theme. My enjoyment of a match greatly depends on the nationality.

Swiss, Dutch, British and especially Spanish players are awesome. Austrian and German are reserved, polite and a bit strict but I see no harm in that. On the other hand if I never play against a Polish person again I would not be sorry. It's come to a point that I legitimately think of conciding the match from the get go just to preserve my mental state.

I once again apologize for the broad generalization, and I know there must be plenty of awesome Polish people, but it appears they are not playing competitive X-Wing

Seriously though, it is too much. The game is currently great, even if aces make their comeback and even with force. But fly casual is gone.

So, I'm not trying to nitpick you here - I'm not the arbiter of whether or not you had fun - just trying to understand a bit better.

But whereas I basically expected a rant on either the philosophy of takebacks or players gaming the tournament rules (IE disqualification fishing)... your whole game one, and half your game 4 rants, despite #4 featuring an opponent who you claim literally tried to disqualification-fish you, are about handwritten lists!

I can recognize and respect the one man crusade against handwritten lists - I too don't know why we accept not having half points clearly and commonly available as our normal tournament state - but, man, it seems to have ruined your time in a way I can't even comprehend. Maybe you overfocused on it in your post to avoid ragging on your opponents, but I mean, you wrote that whole rant about 4 of your 6 games and that's the one thing you saw fit to put in bold and then re-emphasize at the end.

You're not the first person I've heard report that Euros felt more like playing Warmachine than X-Wing. I get that, having never set foot on the European continent, but I get the sentiment - whether Euros was a shitshow or not doesn't impact whether one or a number of specific people had a bad time.

I'm just trying to understand why in seeming light of that, the thing you spend the most text on, in a post about "if every event was like this I would quit", is... handwritten lists.

The crusade I see and respect, the frustration is what I want to understand.

Oh no, the handwritten lists are bold because I wanted to point out how often I saw them. They are not at all the reason why I think Euros was "too competitive" for my taste (and I don't think that fits as description. We could be extremely competitive and fly casual at the same time). Though they might be a symptom, but I don't want to insinuate that much malice. I really hope they are an unintentional byproduct of circumstances.

No, the handwritten lists are something I would focus on now, because I can't possibly influence the rest*. But to be honest, I don't care enough to muster the energy for a one-man crusade, it's just one I see as worth fighting for, similar to shared dice or against stalling now that those are through. My little biotope has mandatory printed lists, and I don't have to play against people with handwritten lists again until I choose to go to Euros 2020. I will suppress or forget my current opinion and go again, I'm sure about that, because the time besides the game was awesome. Hyperspace Sunday was amazing too.

*apart from my own mistakes when tired or distressed, of course, and I failed myself in that one game.

To be fair, he only blamed 3 of his 4 losses over the European tour directly on dice. Or something like that.

That whole section put me on another Mynock listening hiatus. Gross. Ryan is great. Maybe Dee is in person.

Dee is a great person, can confirm.

Well looking at the top cut today it’s only going to keep going up.

Wont really have solid data until after Sunday, but the quotes shall continue!

edit: I lied. Apparently only 4 people actually brought Seps to heat 2, (5 players, 1 no show drop). Top player was 44th.

Been travelling and only caught probably half of things, but @GreenDragoon I'm really sorry to hear about all of that. I hope it doesn't keep up.

I had fun at Euros.

You always need to get lucky with pairings at those events thought.

I'm far more pissed about judging than players attitude... Can we have Paul Heaver as the marshall next time please?

    • Soontir moves, Vader moves. He declares a shot with Soontir. "Oh no, actually let me shoot with Vader first." Ok, Vader rolls. Soontir activates, "oh soontir would get the focus". I say no, you can't do that anymore, you missed it.

Soontir text does not say "may." Both players are responsible for mandatory triggers.

I'm getting sick of missed opportunity "gotcha" X-Wing.

Look who’s flying Duncan’s list.

Just because Duncan isn’t doesn’t mean Kylo is bad, or that blackout may be good. Duncan is a phenomenal player and found something that works for him.

Blackouts “fine”. Kylo is amazing. Bids are helpful.

"Only" I5 and doesn't have latest?cb=20190224130655 = "bad"...

(That their ability actually requires someone to know how to fly doesn't help.)

Right, I'm just saying this is all on paper. We don't really know the value of two force points but 13 points seems a bit low. However, Fanatical is definitely intentionally underpriced in order to build faction theme, so you have to add however much that's underpriced to the delta between the two since force talents suck. I'd probably pay 6-8 points for Fanatical if it weren't FO only. So the delta is more like 17-19 points between the two pilots in practice.

Blackout's ability, while at first something I laughed at, actually does some work too. It feels really mean to shoot something through a gas cloud, modify your dice into three hits, and then know for sure they're taking damage because they've only got 2 dice.
