TO's get criticized if they rule anything outside the norm. I think if the Unofficial Official Rules guys state something to essentially give the TO's more power over the subject, then they won't be afraid intervene as much.

He's been running that list for quite a while. (Congrats Mitch!)

The ships are relatively durable with good firepower with access to extremely good links into 1.5 repositions backed by a knife fighter dial.

Their ability to swing their arcs around is unmatched outside of Slammers, Echo, free turn around, and perhaps double reposition aces. They can pick and choose their engagements and will usually be flanking on jousts. They are also pretty good blockers for those high initiative ships.

It's not a obviously powerful as a juking phantoms, but it will eat you alive if you don't have a plan.

I wonder if the push for objectives will be renewed.

So 2.0 has been out awhile now. New rules, new mechanics, less nonsense for the most part, more fun. Pretty **** good game.

What has been reliably the best archetype for 2.0?

• High Init Ace Jousters ( 3-4 Ship ) - Trench Run Variants
• Mid/High Init "Beef" Jousters that have mods when they turn around ( Usually 4 Ship eventually, but also Tie Swarm )
• Mobile Aces ( 3-4 Ship ) - Truly Dial Casual Stuff
• Something else? Is there anything else?

i.e. Regardless of Point Adjustment a version of the archetype shows up dominantly somewhere because 2.0 mechanically just works that way. Think pile of mods 360 defensive turret aces from 1.0.

Without looking at data I think Jousty Trench Runny Aces would be my answer?

But you're forgetting egos, personality conflicts, power tripping and grudges! The players are secondary to these.

If anyone's curious about "totally-not-fortressing" at NOVA, don't do that.

Unsporting Conduct: "This prohibits intentionally stalling a game for time". The "such as..." parenthetical part is, read by me, a non-exhaustive list of common examples of what stalling a game for time is. If your game plan is "I'll just wait until the last 5 minutes of the game and engage and kill one ship", that's stalling a game for time. If your game plan is "I'll just wait until he tries to engage at the last 5 minutes of time and fly a ship off the board", that's just hilarious.

Basically, I expect players to at least start the game without planning on abusing the time mechanics. If y'all get into a scrum and you end up ahead, and now Soontir is racing around avoiding shots for the last 15 minutes, that's fine. If two players decide they want to just final salvo instead of playing a game, that's also fine.

If I was the marshall in this particular case, I'd tell the players in question to either skip ahead to final salvo, or make some effort to engage their opponent.

I'd be lying if I didn't admit I judge players based on their competitive choices. Not who they are as a person, I'm friends with and huge fans of many highly competitive players, but how they approach the game because it doesn't align with my approach to the game. I'm not trying to be mean by saying that, just trying to be honest. Course, saying, "If I'm being honest" doesn't absolve me from sounding like and maybe being a jerk. I don't think I am, but maybe? Like, I'll harass someone for bringing the meta boogeyman, but give them hugs when they win. And then maybe harass them some more.

I think that plays out better in person if someone has met me. Probably not on the interwebz.

So both of our lists are built around punishing an opponent that moves into unfavorable terrain. We both started the game planning on killing the other guy as he enters our side of the board.

Your response is to End the game because one or both of them isn't willing to make a stupid move? (Jousting a swarm is generally stupid). Were getting into some pretty subjective territory here.

I came up a plan to win within the rules of the game, **** I even told him I was gonna come engage him in last moments of the game after we recognized the other guys game plan. He had options to play against it ( it took about 2-3 turns to get to his corner of the board). Ryan could have tried rushing me to force an even engagement or fleeing with his list to keep me from scoring points .

All this said Ryan and I had a blast cracking wise and playing for 2 hours with plastic space ships. Does it matter how we flew?
