If you win in Canada, you win in real life!

Their live streaming group should probably bone up on the game a bit more before one of these events though. Good natured bunch, but **** if you couldn't tell they cover way more than X-Wing. Black One having to take the Ion token for Poe to be able to use his ability perform an action after the single use SLAM? BB-8 barrel roll into a Tallon Roll? Asking repeatedly why Poe wasn't stressed after revealing a 2 bank, boosting with BB-8, performing the maneuver then taking a Lock? Back to Dials is better with triggers even with them being unable to wrap their heads around how Grappling Struts functions...

Tbf, doesn't grappling stress not work RAW? You flip them then have to flip them right back?

They can't even get that part right.

The issue the with commentator knowledge was, from what I've heard is that their informed players were essentially shanghai'd at the last minute by cascade realizing theuly didn't have any judges, so vttv was left with the folks that know xwing, didn't want to play in the only Canadian Open, and weren't knowledgeable enough to judge.

Not an excuse, but reasoning.

Makes sense.

Points change, I guess... Carson Wray's top8 at Phoenix is 201 now... meh. had to fight through much tougher traffic.

132 players? Do people even play X-Wing in the eastern time zone?

Except this is always the guy that casts for VVTV xwing events, and he never knows the rules/card text despite pontificating at length about how the player should have done something else based on his lack of understanding. It's not a new problem unique to today, it's pretty much a constant from what I can tell. Actual quote from today "I have no idea how reinforce works" after commenting about the merits of the player taking a reinforce...

I appreciate VVTV, and all the streamers, for taking the time, money, and opportunity away from actually playing X-Wing to bring us the content they do. Really and seriously, thank you. But please either be less judgy or learn the dang rules, take your pick.

Yeah that's entirely fair. Pretty sure it's something they are working on. The back end on their's is arguably the best out there, as much as that pains me to admit.

The more I am in the booth myself the more respect I have for folks like Simon at first earth that can do it solo, both the front of his and back of house aspect, is a gift.

A lot of people comment for VTTV, depending on who is playing in the event. Some go for more of a colour commentary, US style *vomit*, others have a clear preference on type of lists and are not as up to speed with the other types of list, some are too social not to take time to greet everyone walking by, etc.

In my experience, the vast majority of (if not all) streamers can't do it right. It often seems like they're not paying attention to the game, which, imho, is much worse than not knowing the details of specific mechanics. I usually keep it on mute, lest I start grumbling at the streamers.

I felt myself getting frustrated at the mistakes, then I decided to be zen about it. They're just dudes providing free content and putting themselves out there in front of the hyenas on the internet. They seemed like cool guys and I am grateful. Thanks VTTV :)

Also, no selling/asking for money which is quite refreshing. I appreciate what GSP do enough to be a Patreon. But it is a nice break from the constant selling.

A few things to unpack:

First, having like 1-2 hyperspace lists come through a cut isn’t much of an indicator. Having a lot (Like here in Toronto) is more of an indicator, AND it needs to be sustained more than one event to indicate that hyperspace can keep up with extended.

Second, it’s canada, which is actually pretty expensive to fly into, even for Canadians. 😞

800?

800?

800?

Vttv were the same not willing to fix the blatant mistake happened in the Howard's final leading to the infamous heaver phone call.

I'm baffled there are people still supporting their decision...

I like everyone giving out top xwing footage, but they can clearly improve in many things

Actually Toronto is pretty cheap. I found a roundtrip for Friday - Monday at the end of March for <$200 from DC. Check out Porter Airlines, they give you free beer on the flight. It is also ~n 8 hour drive.

I have family that live there, so I know all about visiting Toronto on the cheap.

Canadians keep telling me it's crazy expensive to fly anywhere in their country. So I believe them, because they're Canadian.

As for America... sure, if you're in certain big cities. Otherwise, I suspect not.

True - I just know that from DC where I know at least a few of us are located Porter is a great option. Because beer.

It's honestly obscene. Wanted to go in an ideal world, but holy **** those flight prices. Average costs had it cheaper for folks to fly in from LA or Florida than for us to fly in from the next province over

I haven't been following the toronto system open because i was busy making my first l5r cut and I dont care about extended. I've been hearing about peoples complaints on the stream, and i think we should take a minute to appreciate the great job the Gold Squadron team does at covering events and how lucky we are as a community to have them.

I respect what you are saying, but I have to laugh. VTTV consistently pushes the limit of themselves and other streamers by proxy. It was some (legitimate) criticism of a single commentator, but the pushback that it is growing into online is almost comical. **** some folks call the organization sexist from the one guy making some cringey Leia comments, but VTTV is the only organization I can think of with a regular female commentator, it wasn't their fault she kept on winning on Saturday. The stable of commentators was almost empty, and maybe it's a personal preference, but I would rather have the audio for an event be someone learning some of the new interactions and interacting with chat over the PBS Telethon. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

Grats on making the cut!
