Is Extended being a dumpster fire a meme now? Because I see it a lot in here but find very little evidence in the wild. I kinda love it.

I really like Interceptors, and Extended lets me play those. I haven't really faced anything that has made the game unfun, despite all the insanity, and there's really nothing that makes me clench after the points changes knocked put the prime offenders.

Sloane is probably the nastiest thing right now, and I suspect she didn't get bumped because the ships she helps the most are underplayed and her best carrier got taken away.

All that being said, I'm happy playing Hyperspace as well. I think they're both good.

Points were changed not even a month ago and the the first major event is happening only today.

before crying wolf about extended at least give it some time...

You know we’re capabale of playing it without major events, right?

major events aren’t some sort of illuminating light that shows us the way.

I feel like there was something I should be doing today...

Spending quality time with your family?

My God, yes. Things are good because they have strong interactions at good prices. Dengaroo would have been an amazing list even if it never made cut.

Results tell you the things that might be good, they don't determine what is good.

Nah

Don't wory everyone, once we get meta data from the SoS, I can go back to ranting about words being too stronk.

Not that I haven't been, but i'll have a small sample of data to point at as proof!

Clearly, there's no way anyone can know if something is good without listfortress data, right? No one has ever made an original list and taken it to a tournament.

Do I need to charge admission to the Kaptin Krunch School for List Architecture? I make better squads than what I fly, I just have a symmetry/generic fetish.

Good grief, no.

FYI - lots of generic turret carriers here. Less words. You must be very happy

Turrets have words on them!

My ideal meta is something in which a squad with majority identical generic ships with small base forward arcs and 2 or fewer unique upgrades are viable.

FFG please make 6 Striker Wampa/6 Crack Scout legal.

Whoa now.

i want that squad to be viable, but not the entirety of X-Wing 😛

Obviously not the whole meta, i meant that being one of the top squads.

Oddly, that makes me fine with Extended right now via the 4 Jukey Bois.

No offense, but what I hear is ‘as long as my archetype is top dawg, I don’t care that it’s winning via horrible tactics and unfun engagements ‘

like, you should be able to like generics and be appalled by how quad phantoms works.

If you mean Not!Fortressing that they do, yeah, i'm out. The devs need to fix final salvo.

Coin flip for the win, both players get 0 MoV.

It's unironically a better answer than Final Salvo.

And the PLR boys face each other in round four

Edit: saved by repairing

I don't really like quad Phantoms, to me it feels like an awful amount of "words"...

but I do like the idea for fixing final salvo. Having lists that know they're highly likely to win a final salvo allows people to play towards it - fortressing isn't fun but it can't be prevented so long as this happens

It appears that rebels are out in force today.

Our locals are mostly 2-1, so that's cool. Many big names in the PTL are not doing well, I wonder what the pairings were.

Final Salvo isn't the only reason for fortressing. Fortressing just lets you joust better. Additionally, even with a coin flip for the win, one player will have a better chance of winning via that than playing the game, and since winning still matters more than MoV there is still incentive to go for it. IIRC from when I analyzed it, Final Salvo actually isn't too terrible, because the number of lists that win purely on it (as in they have no other real plan to win other than just going to time) aren't capable of going to it. Lists like quad phantoms are strong in it yes, but not entirely because of just final salvo, because they also win outside of final salvo. Removing it as a tool is useful, but isn't the answer to the list.

I am not sure you recall correctly on the final salvo evaluation: even slight variations in dice can yield a significant advantage.

That said, we typically agree (speaking for @brunas a bit here) that stuff like coin flips, etc, will still not answer it, because most of us are willing to call the bluff of others that they are simply not willing to take a 50/50 loss.

sorry, my evaluation of final salvo vs. other methods

Also important to note: A tie breaker doesn't just need to break ties, it needs to do so in a fashion that favors the person with the lead. Hence why final Salvo relies on attack dice. It could be made more accurate if you wanted to, but that adds complexity, which in this case is especially bad.

Well @Tlfj200, it's totally possible to make a system open cut with a non-ups hyperspace list. Bullet. Proved.

Not wrong.

8 people + whatever hyperspace get to go to worlds. Neat™.
