I think that the Empire has to the most undefined playspace in Hyperspace which people equate to "bad". I am starting to see more fun mixed chassis squads (like your squad against Brunas in the S&V league) rise up. All people know are TIE Swarms and SNR Vader and SNR Vader got taken away.

Ah... TIE swarm.

The best list never played.

I mean I have extensive play with Strikers and Reapers, as well as the non Vader X1’s. There are problems there. Simply put the Resistance I5/6’s murder the X1’s, the Tripsilons are a hard counter to just about everything Empire has, and double tap Y-swarms (especially with Leia) are darn close.

Believe me, I’d love nothing more than for the three named strikers with a Reaper be good. I greatly enjoy those lists, and have had good success with them. But there are a few things, post points change, I just know it would have zero chance against. Especially with the lack of Imperial crew.

I want them to make Striker Swarm viable.

Also, Krayt Bounty: In BCP, have your squad be a FFG Squadbuilder link, change your list the most throughout the event.

Internet hiccup, ignore.

The fact that official builder links are associated with user squads that can be updated at any time is so ridiculous I can't believe it was ever done.

I mean, I can, but it's a huge case of "people writing the application had absolutely no idea how it was going to actually be used" which isn't particularly rare :)

That was pretty obviously the case in BCP since PAX. I think after two losses I would just switch factions to see if anyone noticed.

Can FFG offer the symbolic $1 to say Raithos is an official squadbuilder?

I, uh, hadn't considered that. Sooo...when you link to YASB 2.0, it's a snapshot of what that list looked like from the original link. I'm guessing some of the stuff in the URL is metadata or something which points to particular stuff in dropdowns...probably just a bunch of parameters that are dumped into a stored procedure or the like. Whereas the official app is a live link? Wow.

Yep - you can parse out the full list from a YASB URL - they're effectively permalinks to a squad. Official Builder links to a particular squad for a user - so that user can update that squad, change the name, etc.

So FFG can't link to a user squad for a result from an official list, because it might be deleted, renamed something offensive, changed, etc...

For the SoS events, people still have to provide a physical squad sheet, don't they?

No - generally people copy/paste the output of their squad into BCP, but there's no standardization so it's a bit of a dumpster fire.

I've only seen one or two straight links to the builder.

Okay. So when my opponent rolls up round 3 and has a full backpack from where they're gathering their squad, which oddly doesn't even have the cards together, cardboard on bases, etc....that should give me pause?

I would fear moreso a Squad of Legend type list that takes and removes upgrades to always move last but take as many upgrades for the sweet sweet Words as possible.

I don't doubt the lack of playing, I doubt the awesomeness of the list.

It's gotta be good, right? T-Sim's are non-existent, SNR/Adv Sensor Aces are gone so blocking matters, they have Iden which bypasses the "being down a ship before it fires" problem swarm has, has built in action efficiency with pilots like Howl and Del, and also has ships like Wampa and Gideon that's more than just a normal 2 attack dice ship. Big counter I can see is Rebel Han if its a three ship build.

TIE Swarms are also in the camp of both DOA and absolutely broken best list depending on who you ask.

I'm excited to see which absolutely broken best list is actually good, between all the things I've heard "top level xwing players" say is going to break the game:

literally every resistance ship

5 rebel ships, the ultimate NPE

tie swarm

tripsilon (up up up)

boba/fenn/seevor/whatever in scum

rebel falcons

cheap vader

Oddly, it's usually either
A. what that person is currently playing

or

B. what that person doesn't like playing against

Tie swarm feels like a great way to win until you hit a competent player. It may just be a function of how many players in your meta know how to deal with them.

... and how well you play it.

Which is a great thing and I wish all lists were affected as much by experience of the two players.

  • literally every resistance ship
    • Meh?
  • 5 rebel ships, the ultimate NPE
    • I mean... I still have fair ship rebel PTSD so the mere thought of 5air ship level does give me pause
  • tie swarm
    • Any day now... it's coming... wait for it... next wave for sure...
  • tripsilon (up up up)
    • It's a one trick pony but it's really good at that trick. Like a lot of the 1.0 lists we all loved to hate it's certainly beatable but the hate stems as much for how it warps the meta and forces you to build around it as it actually being good
  • boba/fenn/seevor/whatever in scum
    • Is Boba still in the building? He probably should be but I haven't seen him since he went to the bathroom
    • Fenn should stop blowing up on turn 2, then I might believe
    • Seevor is legit undercosted
  • rebel falcons
    • Not that I've seen...
  • cheap vader
    • He's cheap?

I want to be mad, but I don't know how yet.
