Carolina Krayts is the best X-Wing podcast

Krayt bounty (and a big one) for anyone making the Phoenix cut with a list still legal in February?

And then FFG at the end of January: "X-Wing squads are now 100 points and games are played on 2x2 mats to make games not go to time so much" (need to continue to tradition of FFG messing up the Krayt bounties unintentionally)

My crazy big project at work may end earlier than expected, I'm waiting on confirmation from the powers that be. I may reward myself with a last minute trip, but that's one expensive trip to show up brain dead to a big event. Naboo 2018 did not go well under that same approach of leaving my brain at home. The PTL guys have been telling me about a possible Open since last year, it'd have been an easier fit in my schedule.

Odds of convincing my wife that this is the best event for my son to try competitive X-wing again is probably below 0% though.

If it was the summer, I could totally do it. My sister in law lives in Toronto and my wife and kids would totally love to see her.

Randomly thinking about FCS, and it being bad (or mis-applied).

For offensive purposes, E-Wings can treat their linked lock actions as being linked focus actions. But people don't really think of them that way? (In internet posts, which is the only place I've seen 2.0 E-Wings...)

"After your modify dice step, if you are focused, you can convert one eyeball to a hit." This is basically the same upgrade but for some arbitrary reason it feels like people would approach it differently.

On 3 dice, there's like a 1 in 3 chance you roll some combination of 2 hits/crits or something. How valuable is eating your reroll and having your lock too on <1/3rd (sometimes you'll be at R1) of attacks? Is FCS actually good if used correctly, at 1 or 2 points? Is it just zero to one point over-costed but 5 points mis-used, or whatever? Edit: Assuming Advanced Sensors was arbitrarily priced out of existence?

@svelok I assume it's because by taking a lock action overall, you're limiting who you can mod against offensively and you don't have a chance to keep it for defense. I think FCS can be done correctly if the ship with it can be coordinated a focus or evade token in the same round. I've thought about this for QD.

For the same reason maybe FCS can be worthwhile in Jendon squads.

Rebel ship with the most pilots: naturally, the X-Wing.

Makes sense. In 2.0, it's in the core set and two expansions, it's the iconic ship, the game is named after it.

Imperial ship with the most pilots: naturally, the TIE Fighter.

Also makes sense. In 2.0, it's in the core set and an expansion, it's the iconic ship. Theoretically the whole game is meant to balanced around it, although we'll see if that's still the design philosophy.

Scum ship with the most pilots: naturally, the... M3-A Syck Fighter?

For... some reason?

That makes sense though. Those are the three ships that have come in Epic releases.

TFA, you probably don’t recognize it because of the red arm.

I just don’t remember red arm 3PO standing in sand

So, it's popular on this thread to talk about how Extended isn't worth thinking too much about because it's assumed to be less commonly played and you don't like the balance aspects of it.

What about System Opens?

In actuality, is it more:

1.) I don't care what happens in System Opens, it's not real X-wing. I won't be playing.

2.) I sorta care about System Opens, but I don't like it. I'll play a Hyperpsace list or I'll play an Extended List but not practice.

3.) I like Hyperspace better, but I'll still prepare competitively for System Opens.

Of course there are people that don't care or like Extended better, but this isn't about them.

4) I currently would like extended better for ship choice, but acknowledge the superior format of Hyperspace. I'll play a hyperspace list and prepare competitively for System Opens which I see as the best tournaments of competitive X-wing with the most fun to be had.

So a mix of 2 and 3 or does that count as 2?

That sounds pretty much like 3. Not really important, though, just trying to understand what the feeling when people say that "Extended sucks". Not that you are saying that.

3?

But also, maube 0.) Extended points will change soon, so talking about Extended isn't that valuable since it's (at least possibly) all out the window in two weeks? Which could also be true of Hyperspace, but that format hasn't had a bunch of big tournaments already, so it's less explored?

@Biophysical Think I’m a 3, but the limit of my preparation is building a list and trying it five or six times.

I guess the impression I've been getting is that lots of people think Extended is bad even if points are balanced or more accurately, they think points will never be balanced and the ship count disparity makes things even worse.

The funny part is that's the same it was said about 1.0 and how 2.0 should have fixed it.

Can't wait to hear how hyperspace 3.0 would fix xwing once again

Except hyperspace is fun and easier to balance (more limited ships).

And if it isn’t, then 2.0 actually has failed at it’s stated mission.

But 2.0 is already better than 1.0? And Hyperspace is - yet again - bit better?

It is naive to expect the perfect game. But it is realistic and accurate that 2.0 and hyperspace made it better.
