But the Hyperspace Qualifier (the day 2 event for those that don't make the cut) is using the Hyperspace format (except for System Opens in 2018):

yeah.

The Hyperspace format is, like, for events with Hyperspace in their names. Maybe the "Extended" format should become the "Open" format and be used for events with Open in their name...

For fun. It’s for fun

here's hoping that "Hyperspace" format is intended to be a new player-friendly format and is severely limited to recent releases - similar to Trilogies in Destiny

Facing infinite Boba Fenns sounds fun.

Didn't we know that the System Opens were gonna be Extended already? I felt like that was a thing that we shouldn't be surprised by (again?)...

So going over the format, it sounds like they scrapped the tiered system from last year, which I will miss. Pretty much you are playing to go 5-1 or bust (or 6-0 in the side event), though that was true last year.. The other change I noticed was that only the winner of the System Open gets an invite to the Coruscant Invitational, unlike the top 8 like last year.

Top 8 still gets invites.

From the article, they get invited to World's, but only the winner gets an invite to Coruscant.

Either are good.

I would be jazzed to make Top 8 at the one Open I may be able to attend, but that makes the invitational a much smaller pool and I expect lots of hijinks.

Oh, I agree. I think this first "season" is going to be FUBAR as FFG OP tries to feel this new format out. That said, I'm not going to complain since odds are it will not impact me in the slightest. I'm just happy to attend and hang out. I might grab a top tier list and see where I actually rank up, I'd love to come home with the movement templates, but my decision making tree is generally flawed and not on par with the guys who regularly make cut.

It is the list building stage where I'll probably screw up. I was going over the Mynock stats and I wish they had also included median squad size, especially for Rebels. I'm tempted to just take Bruna's list because I think it is the best version of Whisper/Red/Fel.

Not even looking at lists for the Open yet... too far in advance, and there's Resistance, FO and a points review between now and then. I figure I'll need to look at Resistance and FO as primary options by that point.

Fair enough. I'm trying to go to Pax in a month, so I doubt that Resistence will drop by then.

Honest question, is a 61 point Redline better than an 88 point Rexlar?

Have several lists that I can slim down other components of to make that swap. But I find myself actually wondering, even ignoring the other stuff I'm dropping, if that's a good trade. Redline is so going up up up in Jan

Ouch... that's a definite maybe... be prepared? The cargo ship may decide to take two red 1-straights in a row and be force to take a 2-straight white instead for illegal dial choice...

Better at what? Redline is amazing in the beginning, but you'd hate to have him as your late game closer. Rexlar pretty much the opposite I think.

Pretty much this - if the rest of your list is strong in the begging, then it may make sense to swap in Rex. But if it is all closing ships, I would stick with RL.

Varies on the list, but was more just that I am seriously debating which is better period when one of them is 27 points less than the other

<why not both>

Cause you still need Whisper

Redline is far easier to use, and cheaper. He's not reliably going to be around past turn four, but will do significant damage before he goes. If that equates to better, than you're set.

Also, if you have Whisper in your list, you have a closer and don't need Rexlar, making a front-end smasher like Redline a better choice for a wingmate.

I don't want to derail the other conversations going on, but we've been talking locally about Vader pilot, or the near absence thereof. Why do we think that is? The obvious answer seems to be that cloak 'n choke Whisper is cheaper and arguably better, but I don't think it's that simple. I think Whisper is easier, for lack of a better word. She's point and shoot and generates an obvious thread zone with Vader crew, which people try to avoid. On top of that, she can recover from a mistake or bad positioning better than Vader pilot.

I'd been running a Vader/Soontir/Sai list similar to Asa's from the Mynock Open and his showing only strengthened my resolve to keep at it. I've not run through all known meta matchups and compared it to Whisper/Redline/Soontir, but...I'm not scared?

Any thoughts?

Juke Whisper, Juke Fel, and Juke Rexler are 200. Who needs a bid? Who needs Vader?
