15 points. ... our local meta has been ridiculous with bids (I usually have 14-17 with Boba/Fenn). We have no idea if we're really right or really wrong.

My guess is that you're "really right." Moving last with PS6 is game-deciding, and unlike 1.0 you know your 6's are going to be tied with their 6's, so it's "bid on."

When Armada first came out, I was an odd duck that was bidding 15 or more points, because I realized how crucial being first or second player was (especially so with how the objectives work in Armada). This quickly drove our local meta to big bids early in the game's life when most places seemed to regard 8pts as a dominant bid. For the past few years in Armada, though, you need to bid 20-25 points if you want a "big" bid in Armada.

So I fully expect to see your localized big bids start to line up with the standard pretty quickly.

It's actually really fun with a giant bid. Harrass your opponent with the TIEs, let Vader pile on damage from the perimeter.

Tangentially related (only because you were talking about initiative decisions), Han/Perceptive Copilot is amazing on Boba, but much less so when he's shooting after stuff. I've kept giving away initiative against other I5s, planning to arc dodge them, but then end up getting him kinda melted against other I5s. Scum Han gunner is an example of some really good design. He'd be easy mode if he triggered at the beginning of the engagement phase (as I'd mistakenly done the first three times I played him). It introduces a real choice on initiative and greatly impacts my decisions from round to round.

I hadn't thought of that, it's an interesting decision. With Boba I think I am generally okay moving first because it is hard to arc dodge as a medium base and because of the how Han works. Haven't played him yet, but my general plan was to jam him down some throats when it is time to engage and use the rest of my squad as clean up.

I am pretty terrible with formation flying, but I guess I don't really have to fly the TIEs in formation (except it looks cool).

You 100% don't fly those TIEs in formation. You do what they were meant to do, fan out, clog up lanes and block and give up their lives to serve the Empire and the Dark Lord of the Sith.

I think that if bids get big enough, you are going to start seeing Aces get outpushed by generics. If 15-20 point bids for i6 become the norm, wouldn't your squad be more efficient to drop the Ace and fill the empty points for something functional?

I'm trying to piece together what your non-Extended list would be where you would both care about my bid and also make the TIEs sad. You win, I got nothin'. #scoop

Truth be told, I think I can handle my own Vader/swarm list just fine with Boba/Fenn and wouldn't be too concerned with my Rebel lists.

It's boba/fenn, so yeah. I just prefer to also be the last moving with fenn (less with boba).

I think it depends on the list and the player. I haven't felt the need to go above the 180's with Boba/Fenn and, for the most part, there are upgrades I could drop and it wouldn't have any impact on most games. But, it's not like I'm tearing it up with that list, either. I'm around 60+% win rate, but those loses are due to my mistakes/in-game choices, not due to points I should have spent.

I actually think there are upgrades I want on boba that gets me to 190s.

Moving last isn't a silver bullet, and if my boba is better than your boba (by enough), you're going to have some problems.

Not "you" as you personally - the generally you. "vous"

ORLY? I thought you might be on the Super Luke/Norra train. I agree on Fenn moving last, I think Vader just kills him outright or bullies the **** out of him if he's moving first.

For non-Extended (which seems like as fitting of a descriptor as anything), I think I've landed on 186, which I guess means I need to drop something or hope opposing Vaders take homing missile or are bad...?

Oh, it's probably the "you" as in me, too. ;)

Man, I have to figure out what you guys are putting on Boba/Fenn to get them that high. I am getting to 176 with Fearless Fenn and Boba with Fearless + Maurader + Han + Perfecptive Co-Pilot + Contraband Cybernetics.

Maybe add Proton Bombs.

Spoiler - it's proton bombs.

Question... is this Boba/Fenn list actually good enough in 2.0? I was fiddling with the list in theory, not seen it or anything like it put on the table, but unlike Defenders it (perhaps incorrectly) feels like Boba/Fenn is either going to win or lose very quickly.

I'm very much in the "bring more arcs" camp so my bias may be impacting my thoughts on this.

(that said Vader/Defender or Defender/Defender still scares the heck out of me, so it's not that 2 ships don't work!)

so the answer is none of us really know, but that boba is REALLY good. But yeah, it's less arcs, and more arcs are good.

I think bruno should put all of the hosts of the next podcast on at once. You need a ******* handicap

I did have to face chico and back to dials together to win #5 !

Oh wow, I've been misreading Norra's ability this whole time ? I thought it only applied to attacks made from range 1, not a blanket retro reinforce if you manage to get even one ship at range 1. How did that make it through playtesting?

Also playing Whisper for the first time in this edition and I think I may have found my new favorite. ... Thinking about it further, I should have a solid idea if my opponent is going to launch a bomb anyway, so might be okay...

I hadn't even thought of that initiative thing with decloaking/trajectory sim - you can play some wicked mindgames where they either launch a bomb where you won't be or you can decloak in their face when they don't launch the bomb.

Unless things have changed since the printing of the rulebook, the system phase goes in order of pilot initiative (I'm not making the effort of checking). Granted Whisper and Redline are both i5, so it applies, but except for fringe cases where your ship and the expected bombing ship have the same initiative, bidding won't help you for this.

I'm not really looking to bid much with Whisper anyway. I think knowing how to play her as both 1st or 2nd player will be necessary overall.

I haven't listened to the whole podcast yet, but what were the upgrades in the list Chumbalaya and Nam-my were talking about? I caught the pilots: Luke, Norra, Blount, Sabine. I assume Debris Gambit on Sabine. They mentioned Supernatural Reflexes on Luke (I think). That gets it to 187. I was just curious what other goodies were in the list. Did Luke have regen? Did Norra have anything?

I assume this

Side note, every ship in that list is a multiple of 10. Easy half points math :)

FSR in 2.0 pretty much going to Luke/Norra/Sabine + friend?

That sounds like heaven on earth compared to FSR in 1.0.

I'm not complaining at all. I'm just trying to think of three better ships than those three, especially since they leave you with points for a 4th.
