Thinking of having nasty stuff on all four sides of your ship... this seems pretty nasty:
Carolina Krayts is the best X-Wing podcast
Different, but similarly powerful to this (which I'd like to fly if I owned this many Punishers)
Using lots of bullseye arcs seems like fun and something I want to practice. As a swarmable bullseye ship, what looks the least bad? HLC scyks (33pts) or Procket Zs (30)?
I'm fairly sure it's the Zs if you're good, but the scyks look easier to form a net with.

Interesting, but limited effectiveness?
Yeah. This is my main concern. My gut tells me it won't trigger all that often. Del probably dies before the ships you really care about about are damaged enough for his ability to matter.
Thought experiment:
You have a large portion of a swarm at Range 1 of a Howl Swarm. You can take 8 shots at Range 2 on Howl, or 8 shots at Range 1 on Academies. The second scenario includes a possibility of killing Academies before they fire.
What do you do?

The old math said kill 2 ties or kill howl, I'd go for the TIES cause "FROM MAH COLD DEAD HANDS WILL YOU TAKE THIS MATH AWAY" (and I'm not up to doing more math this morning)
Assuming Iden, you're looking at a worringly high chance of not killing Howlrunner with your 8x 2 dice + focus shots, so taking the range 1s and trying to strip focus/eliminate an academy or two seems to be the right answer. Howlrunner is going to live into round 2 of combat in most scenarios regardless, it seems to make sense to remove attacks/weaken attacks rather than get tunnel vision on Howlrunner. Decreasing the number of attacks coming your way is a way of reducing the value of Howlrunner without having to kill her.
Edit: I'm assuming this is a 8x Tala swarm / 8x Obsidian swarm vs. Howl + Iden + 5x Academy or something in that vein

Who is shooting first? You or the howl swarm? EDIT you said you are shooting first.
I say try and pop some ties off the table. It's a long chance of killing Howl, she still stays on the board through the end of the turn and her affect still applies even in death. So just try and nuke some ties off the board and make the next round less painful if possible.

How does Howlrunner's ability persist through death?

SIMULTANEOUS FIRE: To represent that ships with the same initiative are essentially attacking at the same time, if a ship is destroyed during the Engagement Phase, it is removed after all ships that have the same initiative as the currently engaged ship have engaged.
In short:
Bio has initiative.
All of his academy 1's fire on Howlrunner. They kill her.
If the opponent has Academy's they all get to return fire before Howl is removed and her ability still applies to them.
It's the same with Biggs being a damage soak for initiate 2 barrage bombers. He just acts like a damage sponge and eats everything that round.
Weird I know.

New simul fire rule. A destroyed ship isn't removed until everyone at the attacker's initiative has fired, so if an I4 pilot kills her she sticks around on the board modding all your I4 shots.

In the experiment, it is implied you can remove the academies before they fire, with an 8x Tala or Obsidian swarm, so Howl will not persist per simultaneous fire.

Thanks for flagging that, I had missed that in my read through of the rules.

Well to be fair there was no declaration of what was shooting on his side (unless it was earlier in the thread). But yes, if they are obsidians then yes, Howl would be removed and I would still probably aim for an academy to just remove shots from the board without them being able to fire.

Yeah I understood the simul fire rules, but the experiment said Academies which fire at a different Initiative - hence my confusion.
The question is not "how do we live up to this thread in 2.0?"
It's "how do we get this thread moved to the 2.0 forum?"
Actually, the real question is "will there even be a new forum?"
Anyone going to NOVA?

Yes, traveling Friday, playing Saturday.

I'm playing Saturday too. I'm going to try and come tomorrow, but I'm going to be working until 6AM. Depends on if I want to deal with traffic/metro or not tomorrow. Are there any hanger bays going on?

No hanger bays, but nova has side events. The easiest ones to get into are the x wing hunger games, which are every evening of the event.

Those sound fun, but I can't really play any evening events. My free play time will be tomorrow during the day. Just wondering if it is worth lugging around my stuff tomorrow or if I should just watch friends play and enjoy the open.

If you have a room, don't lug your stuff around and just enjoy the open.
You might find some time for a pick up game for practice, but you can just grab your stuff then - it won't take long, and isn't worth lugging around.

Is there any word of a slightly organized group of the community trying to do 2nd Ed pick up games?
