I think I was 100% that it was going to be re-release only, up until the announcement of wave 2. Maybe you can make a decent First order list with just TIE/fo, or maybe they are going to sneak more into the release?

Wave one has three ships per faction (arguably four scum) but only two resistance and one first order are coming out with a fifth scum ship?

I think more ships will generally be more interesting than 2-3 ships per faction, especially on the Rebel side. Scum and Imperials have ships that are at least different from each other. X and Y wings have the least differences of all the wave 1 ships.

I actually disagree.

’more than 3’ like ‘5’ is.

’more than 3’ like ‘20’ isnt (to me). It looks like an overwhelming, unbalanced mess.

less ships feels more digestible, and more like if I won it’s because of the choices I made, and less about abusing some fantastic list or wombo combo.

I agree in theory, I just think that a lot of the ships in that "20" overlap enough that while more than "5" different ships, it's more like "8-9" if you look at how they're used. Regardless, I have a hard time thinking Rebels are in a good place with what's out now. Imperials are okay, but only Scum has more than 2-3 major archetypes they can make.

I’ve been looking only at wave 1 because I think local wave kits are going to support only current released waves and aside from Crossroads Classic, I don’t see myself going to a bigger event until next year some time.

More than that, we need a baseline.

I get people are excited about a bunch of different things, but without a baseline, we’ll have virtually no context for what’s good and what isn’t.

Having no baseline leads to two effects as far as I understand: one, the meta is wide, wide open and you can hardly prepare for it. With current tournament structures this leads to wildly mixed topcuts. Two, some lists will be flattened so hard that it won‘t be fun in the slightest.

The former is imo positive, the latter could be a worthwile sacrifice.

I guess you want to post the npe squads (not necessarily OP, just miserable to play against)?

because double advanced sensors defender is a good start.

they didn’t come for you to have a good time, just to slowly grind out games.

Boba with Han, Trip 0, Fearless is pretty brutal. Throw in Shield Upgrade for fun/to force 6 damage to get halfsies on him. Can honorably joust or hunt you down or kite.

Wave one feels like it's going to be rough flying Xwings again, honestly. That said, I will admit ignorance as I have still yet to put 2.0 on the board.

I still want to play a game where dials matter. Vader already feels like cheating that edge now... Also, as bad as Rebel crew are, do Rebels even get a crew carrier for "Wave One?"

I think its a question of how unfun those combos will get in comparison to the awful single player game that was the last year of 1.0.

The 360 turrets are dead. That by itself moves the game forward and makes it more interesting.

Remember that many of us ( myself included ) started playing X-Wing last year...

I never got to experience a good version of this game besides the 7 days before the gunboat died.

So I haven't been keeping track and I'm lazy. What's available in the inevitably popular "new releases only" format?

For TIE Advanced, I'm not allowed to fly Zertik or Ved right? Just Vader, Generics, and MaaREKT?

For Y-Wings it's Norra, the generics, and... Dutch?

All the TIE Fighters are legal, as are all the X-Wings, right?

How about upgrades? Did some Firespray titles only come in the conversion kits and not the expansion pack? Am I right in thinking that once again the Force users got the edge here because all four of the Force abilities are in the core set but most of the other upgrades are in the conversion kits?

I remember my first store champ, getting my A-Wings stomped by a fat Han, and having Tycho flown off the board by my opponent because I forgot he was stressed and dialed in a red move, and this was before the white 2-straight rule.

I am really genuinely zeroed in on the lack of turrets in 2.0.

I feel like whatever broken version of the game we might end up with its going to be better just because of that. Even if high ps small bases that can just point anywhere they want or rotate turrets that have complete info create a similar effect, its not really the same no matter how close it gets.

Like James Cameron before them FFG raised the bar. The removal of true 360 turrets on its own most likely changes the baseline definition of sad.

I like your point but I question anyone's ability to be truly objective about this game.

Like, part of me thinks perhaps your optimism about the turrets being gone is because you yourself are a high-PS reposition-based arc-dodging ace player.

Because I know I have done the same thing myself. Since my favorite type of list is 3 or more beefy identical generics with ordnance or heavy cannons, I didn't really think triple Jumpmasters was that big of a deal.

I just think if we really open our eyes to it, we're old players and don't really care about anything because we're in it for the long haul and know that all OP NPE cancerfests get nerfed eventually (unless they're bounty hunters because Alex Davy bounty hunter fan REEEEE).

So the only reason any of this stuff super matters is from the perspective of a new player, since we all want more people to play with. And from a new player's point of view, 2.0 is better than 1.0 for now because maybe they won't have to buy to conversion kits or stuff from other factions to get the cards (remains to be seen what's legal for competitive games and what it looks like going forward, and if some factions are just not competitive). But there's still going to be NPEs for a new player, and I'm not really sure if getting arc-dodged to death is any more fun than getting TLT-ed to death.
