Also, I think FFG cucked Nand.

He got to design a card. He made targeting scrambler.

A card that is only usable on a palp shuttle, and may be worse than Collision Detector, in the same wave as a better palp carrier, and ~2 months before they reboot the game. Strong.

Is he not getting a 2.0 version of the card??? I figured he would...

We’ve seen 2.0 versions of some of the wave 14 content already - it would make sense for there to be a 2.0 version of Targeting Scrambler in Saw’s Renegades alongside the 1.0 version. I’m pretty sure in Thrones 2.0 they have been recreating/adapting player-designed cards from 1.0 - not sure how exhaustive they have been but the idea of winner cards being caried forward (eventually?) seems to be an existant practice. They were so far behind on gettting those cards out in X-Wing that they dont have *that* much of a backlog. We know that Dash pilot is being reserved and that Boba Fett crew is changing quite a bit. I’m curious how they will handle designs that fell flat (Boshek, Stay on Target) or whether we will see something akin to the original Boba Fett pop up in a different place.

So the more I think about it, the more I think Afterburners, unless extremely expensive, will be close to autoinclude on most highish Init ships. Even if you have boost already, the ability to pull a free boost and still have an action is so huge.

Wedge gets double repositioning for a turn, as does Vader. Fel gets to burn into a Boost, Evade for action, link into a roll, then get a Focus if he's got a target in arc. Fenn could boost into R1, then roll and link into a Focus. It's not every turn sorts of action efficiency, but on key turns, you really get to get the most put of a fighter.

I’ve missed the afterburners card. What’s the wording on it?

Thought experiment: because I'm a little tired of points caveats, so I'm going to start putting squads together and doing head sims:

The first thing, of course, that I want to look at is a Double Defender squad. In the absence of any evidence for a TIE/D style double tap I'll start with an HTC based squad.

We have a screen cap of Rexler Brath at I5. Hopefully Maarek makes the transition at his TIE/Advanced I5, because it would give two high I aces of the same Initiative.

There are a series of ranks of squad you could go through, depending on points. Assumptions are that the upgrade slots are the same as the current ship, and that you have enough points for the Rank 1 build in a 200 point list.

Rank 1: Basic build. HLC and EPT on each ship. The starting Defender chassis is so strong that just the EPT and HLC is awfully strong. Predator looks solid, but might be doubling down too much on the Bullseye. Outmaneuver seems like a pretty excellent alternative.

Rank 2: Adding a mod. Because of the high inherent defense, Afterburners seem like the first mod you reach for. For a couple of turns, it lets you dodge arcs or bring targets into Range 1 or the Bullseye while retaining a Focus for offense.

Rank 3: A good missile. With an Attack 4 missile, or an Attack 3 missile with solid utility, you gain a useful tool for attacking range 3 targets that are outside of the Bullseye arc. It gives you a strong option to catch someone in a bullseye arc and then force them to reposition to avoid the HLC while still being subjected to a powerful shot. A really good missile with multiple charges gives the option of downgrading the HLC to Ion Cannon.

Rank 4: A second mod (some ships are shown to have two). You can always use an extra shield if they're really generous with points.

Rank 1 seems decent, probably an enthusiast level squad. If points exist for Rank 2 I think the squad starts looking pretty regularly competitive vs the lists we've seen demoed. Rank 3 is heavily reliant on the quality of available missiles. A good enough missile, and it is probably worth getting the missile before Afterburners. Rank 4 is basically the same as Rank 3, just a little better.

Could be an interesting way to differentiate them if torpedoes were more limited ammo but stronger, while missiles were lower damage but got more uses. Could work out with who usually gets each yup if upgrade as well. Most torpedo carriers already get 3 attack dice, so they don’t benefit as much from a torpedo unless it gives them something extra. On the other hand, a lot of missile slots are on 2 attack ships, where 3 dice is still a bonus.

The more I think about it, a 3 dice missile with 3+ charges and a decent kicker effect is actually pretty solid for even a 3 dice ship. It lets you avoid the range 3 bonus defense of the target, and that's not trivial.

It has two charges. If you move speed 3 or higher, you can spend a charge to take a free boost. Something like that.

I hear inquisitor is pretty good. Do we know if that missile allows you to keep the lock?

With what looks like a consistent design decision that limits adding results (not to mention stacking) anything that takes away a die from the defender is going to be very good. I think Wedge has one of the best abilities in 2.0. I’m looking forward to try things like outmaneuver in 2.0.

Also I'm super looking forward to Arvel actually being good. I flew him back before it was cool!!!

Same!

Although...

now I have an itch to fly him in 1.0 again! I wonder if Ezra coordinating before Arvel activates helps him in 1.0 any...

Arvel's still not that good really. The best part about flying him is that he's so rare that lots of people just straight-up forget he exists.

Actual thing that once happened to me:

"Well, I'll just bump you here. This is the last round of the game due to time, so I win."

"I'm Arvel."

"Oh..."

"And I have intimidation so you roll one less die"

"****!"

This always gets me. It's pretty common for people to assume that my Blackout is Kylo.

I also notice that there are a handful of people now who say that they love the K-wing- I wonder how many of them know what Esege does?

****, can we look at their listbuilders and see how many lists with non-miranda K-wings in them?

Some thoughts from last night's Defenders vs Swarm games.

1.) The jury is out on HLC. I was trying to maximize bullseye arcs, but that certainly opened me up to sub-optimal positioning at times. If it had been double large ships instead of Swarm, the HLC might have looked a lot better.

2.) I missed Predator. Getting a high expectation of 4 hits with an HLC was awesome. 3 hits expected with Focus from the HLC is decidedly less cool.

3.) Swarm might be a hard matchup for Defenders. Defenders can't kite and they need actions, which makes the swarm pretty nasty. As per 1.), low ship count lists would have a tremendous amount of trouble eating through a Defender. Han with gunner Luke can point that turret all day and not make good progress against a Defender

4.) My old anti-swarm tactics with HLC Defenders was to tank some initial shots in order to wipe a couple TIE Fighters off the board to relieve blocking pressure. Iden Versio and the reduced HLC output make that much less reliable. New tactics are needed.

5.) Concussion Missiles might actually be the preferred long range weapon. It has one less die than the HLC, but it allows one less defense, and doesn't require the Bullseye. 3 charges is probably enough.

6.) Afterburners on Defenders are awesome. They might be really expensive or Defenders just might not have any mod slots. They're pretty built as is.

A wing, BURN IT WIth FIER

Im mostly psycked for sooontir feel beeing relevant again

It looks like Gunner style effects / weapons that fire twice at the same target are quietly getting downsized. We have seen IG88B still exists as before and BTL Y-Wings are carried over too with the Veteran Turret Gunner, but in general bonus attacks seem to have to be restricted to a different arc or against a different target (Han turret crew, Veteran Tail Gunner, Cluster Missiles etc). The old Gunner crew effect seems to have been killed - Bossk turret crew has a version of it but with a penalty, which seems to indicate that the old effect would only be carried over in a generic crew in either a much worse form or not at all.

@Biophysical have you looked into the E-Wing as a possible counterpart option to play as a Defender player now that they're setting up those two ships to be the "superior starfighters" (not sure if Scum will have one) of the game even though they play differently?

BUT MUH CORRAN! HE'S PS 112 AND HAS A FORCE POINT. AND HE DOESNT REGEN THAT MUCH, AND WHY DIDN"T THEY LET ME FOCUS/EVADE AND GET TARGET LOCKS AT RANGE 1!???!?!?!?!?!?!?

Man speaks the truth

Imo, Es and Defenders are polar opposites

Defenders just chug along consistently, being the best at everything and incredibly sturdy to boot

The E gets long range scanners, which screams ALPHA STRIIIIIIKE

real flash in the pan stuff, esp with corran's ability

Fully expect to see some knaves with protorps and SatSalvo (seems to be spend an extra ordnance charge on the weapon you fired to reroll opponent's greens)

The awful model is the main reason i never adopted coran. I just couldn't love it. I love models for the k wing and the punisher, but i just can't love the e wing.

While I have no interest in x wing beta 1.0 anymore, it's still nice to go to events so stores don't re assign the day to hero clix or some such.

My last two tourney lists have been dormitz and cruise backdraft with cruise quickdraw for p.s. 12 placement and turn 1 10 dice full mods alpha.

And kylo with a bid.

Tis the summer of jank. Keep your community rolling.

Can we all be real here? The K-wing and punisher models are actually awesome. Ignore where the k-wings have touched you over the last few years... moar missiles on the model is actually REALLY cool.
