Carolina Krayts is the best X-Wing podcast

...yes, that was me.

More fun "chris looks like he's in highschool" stories:

Mary bought a lottery ticket, while I was in the background doing something else. The cashier asked for ID, she pulled hers out - he said not you, but me. I was 25, age for lottery tickets is 18 in NC...

I was at my LGS, someone asked me if I was in middle or high school two years after I'd graduated college.

Got ya beat. I got carded in my mid-30s buying liquor. There's advantages in looking young but that ain't one.

Ooh, just read the text on the new damage deck. I like it a lot

Beards help with that. I may not need it anymore at 36, but I haven't tried it. I was carded before that, around 27 though...

My wife relies on our 3 kids, ages 4 to 8, and people still wonder if she might not still be in high school, but they figure it might be impossible. Seeing their faces as they work it out is priceless.

We will win when we're much older!

You guys would love/hate Pennsylvania. They card everyone there- I've seen a guy with a grey beard get carded buying alcohol, and then they card his father standing behind him (who is probably in his 70's).

Nah, that is probably the best way to do it. Maximum insult to the obvious.

I was carded once at a gas station. I waved a couple fingers at the kid and said " you don't need to see my identification.."

He totally played along.

I kind of wanted to give him an extra 5 bucks

Just turned 21. So I got carded for the first time last week while my friends and I were "studying" for finals.

Well, my ID expired on my 21st birthday, so they wouldn't let me buy any booze. Laws suck.

I have been carded legitimately like maybe 5 times since I turned 15 if I was by myself.

All other times, I was carded because my party was carded.

Im excited for 2.0 but also looking forward to playing 100% more Battletech while we wait.

i enjoyed the crap out of the campaign until i realised the answer all along was to fortress in the corner and abuse knockdown. because the AI is wholesome and wants to play the game.

also we have 18+ drinking age in Australia/New Zealand, git gud America.

I got carded at a grocery store like two weeks ago. It was weird. I'm like, "okay, whatever", but have trouble believing it was anything other than "management just reminded everybody that we have to card everyone and I'm not lazy enough to take chances yet."

I keep getting rekt because I try to outmanuver stuff. So just stack Gunner and Guts?

Take Bulwark + something, either Gunner for busting enemy bulwark or tactician to improve your initiative and precise strikes on your pilots.

stack AC 2/5's and LRMs and walk until you detect the enemy but cannot see them. then set yourself up in an optimal formation and pass turns until they come to you.

now lay down massive stability damage and abuse your free precise strikes. you are now the Mechwarrior equivalent of Trip wookies. Bulwark -> reinforce, high gunner -> expertise, stability damage -> stress.

But, its not your fault. the game is based on the tabletop version but in the tabletop rules evasion isnt lowered with every attack defended.

and since your often 4v8+ units evasion isn't balanced in your favour in campaign mode anyway.

i didn't figure this out until my hero had already taken the evasion tree because i wanted to arc dodge and evade attacks, so i feel your pain.

SRM > LRM for tonnage and DPS, especially once you start finding the ++ damage SRMs. Usually having a single LRM carrier with a sub carrier, in my case a thunderbolt with 2x LRM 20s, and an atlas with a LRM 15 and 20, are good paired with a sensor locking mech. Especially one with piloting so you can sensor lock then then walk back. Gives you a few free turns of damage. The. Once they do get in have your SRM monkey basically shotgun them. I usually have a AC10-20 and a PPC on another mech for headshots. Makes even the 5 star missions that end up being 12 heavies and assaults in full armor not the biggest deal.

Reverse of this, at Stele Open (RIP) last year one of my opponents asked something like what grade I was in, to which I replied Freshman.

He then asked what college I go to...

This is the solution for the Krayts, swap to battletech meta for 3 months, counts as tabletop discussion and playing video games.

I generally dont get carded even with my baby face, but I suspect my taste in alchohol is what does it, under age kids do not like bourbon lol

So is the Kraytcast an X-Wing Podcast? I downloaded a couple episodes, but one was just hours of Duel of the Fates and in the other they were just playing Axis and Allies.

Congrats. You found the April Fools and the protest of Xwing 1.0 scoring/balance episodes.

Well I figured one was just April Fools or somesuch, which was why I downloaded more. Maybe I'll give it another try.

Start with Listener 4, as the previous Listeners are rendered obsolete with the 2.0 announcement.

Krayts are unique brand of salt, liquor, disrespect and hidden pearls of wisdom. Don't listen expecting you'll walk away smarter (often you may feel the opposite.) This is a shock-jock style podcast similar to edgy radio shows.

If you're downloading past episodes, listen to the Listener series episodes. I'm not sure anything else holds up to the passage of time.

Edit: Slow, long winded posts are ripe for ninja strikes...

Oh ick. I like sarcastic and irreverent humor, but whenever someone uses the word edgy I know I'm not getting much better than the 8th graders who graffiti my classroom.
