I was referencing the people who have to have the latest apple/samsung/whatever phone every year.

I mean, those people will probably use that phone for stuff other than X-Wing. But I do think you're right - it seems weird that people are complaining so bitterly about the conversion sets without considering the inherent costs of even playing X-Wing.

Technically, you also have to have a table to set up your X-Wing stuff. Do people complain about FFG asking them to buy a table?

I inderstand not wanting to buy a smartphone, but that doesn't mean FFG is "forcing" you to do anything. The $20 eBay laptop thing works well. I'd suggest a Compaq NW8000.

My biggest concern is if they take the app idea too far and the only way to participate in tournaments it to use the app. Sure it could be cool to just beam matchups and results to everyones devices and not post printouts, but making that a requirement would be overreaching.

That is exactly the point. From what we now know, they are not forcing it. I hope they keep it that way.

I think we'll have to see the new tournament regulations first. I'm willing to bet printed squadlists will actually be mandatory, because there's too much potential for cheating otherwise

again, 100 dollars for a small multi-purpose tablet. watch video one it! read books on it! then, build lists one it! I generally find this to be a non-issue, and anyone complaining just wants to rant.

Could you please post a link to one of these tablets? I haven't looked at this market for quite a while so I really don't know what is out there.

Yes. I am not one of those "I don't like this so I'm out" people. We don't know the details yet. How they handle this could be amazing. Or restrictive. Time (and document updates) will tell. Overall, I am very psyched about 2nd Ed.

Sure, can't guarantee compatibility yet, but all of them can browse the web at least.

An Android one that is probably fine: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/samsung-galaxy-tab-e-lite-7-8gb-black/4943617.p?skuId=4943617

An amazon one that would need to use the web version probably, but is otherwise fine: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/amazon-fire-hd-8-8-tablet-16gb-7th-generation-2017-release-black/5822969.p?skuId=5822969

Basically, I went here: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/searchpage.jsp?cp=1&searchType=search&_dyncharset=UTF-8&ks=960&sc=Global&list=y&usc=All Categories&type=page&id=pcat17071&iht=n&seeAll=&browsedCategory=pcmcat209000050008&st=categoryid%24pcmcat209000050008&sp=-bestsellingsort skuidsaas&qp=currentprice_facet%3DPrice~%2475 - %2499.99

and used to sort by price. those two above are the big ones I was referencing.

Amazon search for 0-$100 tablets that are WiFi capable. Probably need to narrow a lot further for useful results.

edit: i are computer good. Guess these are 0-$200 and **** if I know why I’m messing up the search lol

Heh. I forgot about the Amazon Fire.

definitely need to narrow it down. Amazon fire and Samsung are the only one I could really recommend at that price point.

Yeah I still have a super cheap Samsung tablet somewhere and it was a decent web browser and e-reader. I think sprint was giving them away because they were obsolete maybe 4-5 years ago.

The Amazon fire with the Google play store installed (super easy to do) has been our LEGO Boost tablet for a few months. The battery life is impressive, in large part because of a 720p screen and it being not blazingly fast.

Tabletop.to already makes having people with phones and tablets super useful for the TO.

It is fascinating having to convince people that you can both a) be optimistic about what 2.0 will do for the game and hope that it does it, and b) decide that the switch-over is a clean time to stop playing competitive X-wing. I guess it explains why politics are so bitter these days with the whole "with us or against us."

I'll say it again in this safe space (ha! I done sullied this thread!): I hope 2.0 is everything people are hoping for, but we'll be sticking with super casual 1.0 games.

I say to you: that's fair. I wish you luck, and hope that some kind souls in your community let you borrow their 2.0 stuff so you and your kids can continue to play at LGSs in the area when you chose to, as you seem like a good player. My belief will be that 1.0 is a good system with only one truly competitive player, but with 2 or more 2.0 is ideal.

That's fine. Do what you enjoy!

This is my first minis game so this whole transition-to-new-edition is something new to me so I'm just hanging on for the ride!

We've had a ton of offers already. I know how crack works though ;)

My son is competitive, ask anyone he's tabled (go to a X-wing Junkies stream and ask about Arthur ;)) His win rate in tournaments is nearly 45%, which is awesome since he started playing in tournaments when he was 6.

I have the whole summer to plan the TO transition and hand out my players as much store credit as we can manage, they'll need it!

See again, one truly competitive player. Both you and your son want to have fun, and with special rules and whatnot, you will. all it takes is one person going in to win at all costs to ruin it for everyone else. I should have phrased it better because I see competitive and good as different concepts occasionally.

Also, its not plastic crack. the medium base is only new plastic. Cardboard opium maybe?

We already do something similar at most events in australia but it is just done through a website. You upload a squad before the event, pairings are announced though the event (and streamed to TV's in the event space) and results are submitted by the webpage (both players submit the same thing and it is automatically accepted. If only one submits or they differ the TO needs to verify).

But it is still possible to do everything the "old" way though. Just slower and more painful. Events are run so much quicker now with far fewer errors.

Chris has talked about the software before. http://tabletop.to/

Are there any tournaments happening for Retro First Edition X-Wing The Miniatures Game this week? Anyone know anything about that?

Does anyone actually want to play that game?
