If it's got no bids, make an offer and I'll sell it for that to you.

mmmmmmmmmmmm dice
I want the marbles.
Today in manufactured outrage, there are tons of forum goers apparently who are terrified about the idea of the internet being involved in their game in any way. Also people who must have watched a different interview than I did, the “app is required!” And “FFG hates casual play!” Stuff in particular makes me confused considering the interviews I’ve watched.
Someone made a Krayt out of me.

They just said in the stream that 1.0 dice will carry over to 2.0.

I'm sure this is being blown out of proportion, but it is still my biggest (and probably only) area of concert for 2nd Edition. In the TC interview, the developer was asked if smartphones were required to play in events, and the dev said they weren't. Good. I hope they keep it that way. I haven't owned a smartphone in over a year and I am not going back.
It is just a bit alarming that key data for playing the game is not in the box. You need to app (or website or pdf... yeah, I know!) to squad build. Sure you needed faq updates for tournament legality before, but now you need external data to do anything! I get that by decoupling this data from the physical media it allows them to better tune the gameplay, and I do think that is a good thing. It is now just a matter of setting how well they handle the tradeoff. The website/pdf availability is good. A formatted data feed that can be queried and read from a custom program/app/website would be ideal, but I would be surprised if they take it that far.
"But there are now cards with prebuilt lists!" Okay, I have 1 or 2 options per release. Whoopee! This is a non-factor.
I have already preordered all new expansions/conversions/core set so I'm far from out. I am just very curious how they will actually utilize this new 'digital' part of the game.
In other curiosities, what percentage of the people complaining about $150 of conversion kits would be totally fine if a ~$500 electronic device was required? ![]()

yup, and I want some 2018 regionals dice to go with my 17 and 16 dice. I wasn't good enough for 18
I think maybe I need to draw a line down the middle of my watermelon templates... Actually... the heck with drawing. Vinyl trim decaling from the hobby shop would be fair straighter and cleaner, while being easier. Don't need to engrave'em.

1: The Prebuilt-ships are a godsend for casual Co-op, and even some out-of-the-box competitive. They aren't fantastic, but they aren't awful either. I am actually hyped about these.
2: I expect a lot more digital compatibility in the long run, as they have been subtly pushing the digital arm of the company. I honestly wouldn't be too surprised if C&Ds start popping up more.
3: The cost of a tablet in the US is a lot less than $500. I (almost) guarantee you can get one that will run it for ~200 max, 100 more likely. It will do little else, but it can run the app. I understand this is a minor thing, but I worry about it being blown out of proportion. Tablets are not expensive anymore, neither are computers. If you are proposing a brand new device, then I don't know what it would have to do to make it worthwhile.
Technically, you can get a 15 year old Windows XP laptop for $20 on eBay, download Linux Mint to it, and access the online squadbuilder. Not the most efficient way of doing things, but that's less of a cost to entry than the new core set.

I was referencing the people who have to have the latest apple/samsung/whatever phone every year.

oh, in that case around 800-1000 dollars. 500 is probably too low.

yup... but if you average the latest phone with a cheap older one... ~$500
The cost though could basically be 0, especially for the ultra casual complaining people out there. Go to library, print pdf, play it forever and never have to touch a computer again!
The upside of electronic point changes and other errata for the competitive scene is so incredibly enormous and the amount of hoops to jump through for the adamantly opposed is so small.

Hey, I’m happy. I’ll finally be able to play the Falcon without feeling like I’ve got training wheels on. By no means everyone who likes ships that happen to have a busted mechanic is sad about this.

again, 100 dollars for a small multi-purpose tablet. watch video one it! read books on it! then, build lists one it! I generally find this to be a non-issue, and anyone complaining just wants to rant.
