I actually think the variations without Miranda are kinda wholesome from an alternate universe perspective.

You still have to kill Lowhrick, and deal with Fenn...but it ends up being semi interesting even if Corran/Poe try to run to time.

Sorta like how FSR2 looks fun now to.

Really good range control can work vs the fenn versions as people often put fenn in the back. Easier said than done though

I'm telling yea, try my list! It's been competitive enough to win me some games against meta lists. but it does fail to stress/control lists pretty hard:

Wedge - Expertise/IA/FAA

Norra - VI/Rey/AO/FFA

Jan Ors - TLT/Nein Numb/Adapt

It's wholesome fun that kills fast or dies fast, there is no inbetween. I've only played Low/Fenn+1 twice and both time lost, but I screwed up the engagement...however I got dangerously close to wins both times. I think it's good enough for B+ tier, an better player than I might be able to get it to A+ tier. the list lives off range control. R1 with wedge only when he can shoot first and get boosted from Jan, and when you have a good chance of taking a ship off the board.

Gotten that to work a few times. The dream first engagement is two ships attacking directly from the sides and 1 at range 3 of Lowhrick with Fenn out of range. But yea, stars have to align for that to happen.'

Interestingly that double silencer + quickdraw list is decent at setting that up.

My win rate sky rockets against this thing when they march up the middle of the board. Not sure why...

Also...I agree.

I don't really even know what wholesome means anymore.

Looks similar in play to that Rebel Alpha list I took to Regionals (Wedge/Cracken/Nym) with less first strike, and a bit more flexibility. I might give it a try, but I'm kinda out of the meta at the moment and quite happy to be on the outside looking in. I don't have any standard rules tournaments in the near future. I probably won't be running standard myself rules till at least June.

This is extraordinarily unhelpful...but more or less this is how things usually play out early against ego for me.

Option 1: They start in the corner and I ask them to choose who to keep in arc with Fenn.

Option 2: They start in the Middle, and they choose who to keep in arc later basically.

yes, that wedge/cracken/nym list is pretty powerful for first strike. This plays pretty differently. I was trying both out for a while. I prefer this one as it has more offense in the late game, and survives a bit longer. the low total health is problem for sure. I find that in the initial engagement something needs to die and all your ships need to live, or at least a good trade (Wedge for QD is my preferred trade usually). The really nice thing about the list is that at range 3 with Wedge you are essentially getting a "range 1" shot with full mods. it's even more fun when you get into range 1. Rey (and other 1 agility ships) get super sad at R2, and extremely depressed at R1.

Option 3: I fortress

Actually, I can picture things pretty good there... The question in my head is... why would they ever start in the middle?! That's an invitation to be flanked. At least a corner you can threaten to turn in unexpectedly. Going up the middle, for most lists, is terrible... (though I admit sometimes I do it just to see what my opponent does, and try to reverse the trap...)

Your first deployment picture, for the corner, was how I set up vs FSR2 with my Phantoms at GenCon. If you got the guns and time the approach, it's devastating. Your list should do ok if you can time that approach on FML. Fenn does slow them up, so either they break formation (YAY!) or they suffer from getting hit from the sides. Worst case though is they turn to face your center ship and they get arc on everything...

That only happens if I lose my commitment to hugging the edge of the board with the far left ship until the correct moment.

I havent used Ego so that might be part of the issue here. But the middle isnt necessary terrible?

Sometimes they turn left or right at the start and kinda drag you into a corner where Fenn can arc stuff when he turns back on ya.

Or not really...head sims are sorta not helpful I guess.

Of course, I'm a jank flyer so I take a lot of lists that don't need to be close formation.... Such as your own 2xSilencers and QD. Your second diagram shows why the middle of the map is a bad idea vs a lot of opponents. You hit'em from all sides. There's no way to turn to escape it, only a direction to commit to and hope for the best.

Now, if your approach is BAD, mind you, and your timing is off, a middle setup would allow them to target the closest fighter and use focus fire to bring it down quick before the rest of your list engages. Depending on you being bad is a strategy some players take, and heck, I've trolled for it by setting up in the middle, but I'm not sure it's such a wise course of action if you're looking to make cuts.

Expect the corner approach in the majority of matches... they may turn away, or cut in, but the corner deployment is the most common.

Such an opening means I know which maneuvers to take to reach an area at the same timing. I also have some ways to abort that.

Oh yea practicing openings is 100% useful, and what you described is awesome by the way.

I was more saying that trying to figure out how to beat Ego using head sims alone is sorta tricky.

Now of course... practicing and headsimming away, you get the most likely scenarios. Then somebody who picks the list off the web the night before drops it before you and does something out of ignorance and lunacy and traps you because you never saw it coming.
