Carolina Krayts is the best X-Wing podcast

There's a serious difference here, though. In Magic, making, and perhaps as importantly deploying game winning combos is the literal point of the game. Even if something is OP, its playijg the game (much like Paratanni). Ghost/Fenn is OP, but I expect if it were were as much X-wing as Paratanni, it would have the same kind of ridiculous representation that Paratanni did. If it were fun and required a touch more than a little skill, I bet we'd see even more of it.

In the regionals I went to a good number of the top players were split between players who had no interest in the list so took something else and players who did a 'tweak' to the list to feel better about playing it. With good matchups, you can very well can make a cut at a regional playing a good list that just gets dumpstered by ghost fenn, you just can't expect to win the regional with it.

Stupid question, but thinking about the discussion on the latest podcast about bumping. You guys talked about putting ion/APL on the objective. In playtesting did you guys consider not awarding points for bumping the objective? Price is right rules...within range 1 you are good. Range 0 (aka bump) you went too far and are out of the showcase showdown.

No, that's interesting though. You could always do the opposite as well - it's not an action to do whatever to the objective, just run into it!

We had a weird scenario at our league once where you had to land your ship completely inside a square about the size of a large base. Definitely sorted out who could fly their ships and who was just guessing!

This is what I was half joking about awhile back with regards to the lack of a "real" regional meta. It exists. Of course it exists.

It just seems to matter a ton less during swiss due to all the honorable laser rocket knights out there. Its especially odd when you lose your first game.

All of a sudden you face jank or confused players for the next 3 games and might only have to beat 1 good list towards the end to make the cut.

After the cut is another story entirely and the 80% becomes very real almost immediately.

In planning for our Nationals (without official prize support because Asmodée Canada), some of our local players are only considering GhostFenn cause "it feels wrong not to." That is not the game my son and I signed up for and we're really happy that local players tend to play a bit more off-meta lists.

I've been burnt out on X-wing for over a year now. And by "burnt out," I mostly mean that there's a lot of matchups that aren't fun. I still love the puzzle of figuring out how to win any matchup, some of them I'd just prefer not to have to deal with, if given a chance.

And I agree that having taking econ and/or stats and/or behavioural oriented paths in life help to see the game differently and make it more interesting. Even if sometimes it devolves into "how can all these players be so wrong all the time?"

Just got to part of cast about Kraytcoin. Why is there any need for a cryptocurrency? The whole point of a cryptocurrency is decentralization but presumably the markets will be running on a centralized server anyways.

Also I think the #1 thing these markets will reveal is who is a playtester and who has conversations with the devs about upcoming FAQs. Insider trading ahoy!

That's an interesting game-theory effect. Its essentially setting up playtesters as a cartel, and offering prizes for busting the cartel.

... Do I know you? (If this was at Endgame, the control zones were 4" by 6". I invented the format -- well, adapted it from another game -- and I enjoyed that mode of play quite a bit.)

Oh there's absolutely none, cryptocurrency makes it harder for absolutely no reason. It's straight for the memes.

And yes, we'd have to ban anyone with an NDA from playing.

I have to wonder if we've crossed paths at some point... I'm slowly dialing in where you could be from and I've got one possible match but I don't think the son's age is quite lining up... that or he just beat last month.

nope. this was in Tucson.

Sozin is always talking about the need for total overhaul of playtesting, what better way to light the dumpster fire than financial incentive? Divide and conquer, baby.

I say let them play.

Basically, This. Yes.

It's only fair for the rest of us.

For the prediction market-

It will likely be a futures market, and i'm looking for one person to take tge role of Market Maker to facilitate liquidity. Travis was suggested.

It will be an open-outcry pit where orders are all GTC. There will be futures only, (no options).

Delivery specifications will be specified in the future. All margin requirements will be 100% of notional, with the exception of short positions on small-value archetypes, which will have a floor of what is tentatively 2.5 meta-percent. (With Meta-percent being the currency used on the metaexchange.)

At this point, can we agree that if you list has no way to get to 4 dice reliably, at least once per game (or a TLT or Cluster missiles that attacks twice to overwhelm tokens) you need to go back to the drawing board? At this point, sheer numbers of dice seem necessary to overwhelm defensive stacking in the Meta.

I'm just imagining the volatility 12-20 days before worlds as people lean into whether or not they think there will be a FAQ and the frenzied selloff on day 11 when there isn't

So, I think I'm never drinking on the internet again, my bad everyone.

Put me down for an Iron Condor on TLT.

Oh, by the way - 11 days doesn't apply to FAQs. It's for product. There could be a FAQ effective the morning of worlds, and guess what, it'll be an exciting morning!

Man, they should make a weapon that attacks twice but can only do one damage each time. That should solve those token stacks! Linked Laser Cannon or something?

Note the second part, but in relation to "fixing" it, some cards like swarm leader(?) attempt to do so, and I think are interesting and fun, but effectively don't
