Carolina Krayts is the best X-Wing podcast

By SaltMaster 5000, in X-Wing

It might be a **** comment, but I couldn't care less about community speculation on changes to the game. I'd prefer to spend whatever time I'm thinking about X-Wing to work with what's in front of me, not my hopes and dreams to "fix" it.

Now, I do understand pointing out problems in design/cards/ships/whatever. I just don't get trying to come up with community solutions, as if that'll translate to much of anything.

This week's official X-Wing fixes:

  • Ban VI and Adaptability
  • Initiative alternates from turn to turn
  • 16 random people are the entire Worlds field!
  • Two words: infinite salt

After Worlds, we'll just nerf every list in the top 8, so nothing matters!

My thought is VI/Adapt is non-unique pilot only. Make generics great again! End the PS wars and also make Nym a lot less scary at PS8 instead of PS10. Making it generic only gives them a bit more punch in those mid PS levels. I think the highest non-unique you can get is PS8 - Royal guard Ints, Glaive Defenders, Test Pilot silencers. There's some more natural predators to Nym, Dash and Miranda. I think it also gives more life back into Dengar and Scum Fenn.

You know the fix I want? I want a fix for the fix that was supposed to fix the fix that was made in that fix thread about the needed fix...

I’m in!

ill take two, please!

Wisconsin regionals begins technically tomorrow, but sort of tonight.

There is a 3 round warm up tournament tonight at the venue for anyone in the area.(locals or whoever has a room already).

I can' decide what alcohol to bring. My first instinct is absinthe because it seems strong in the meta right now.but I have way more reps with bourbon.

Should I drink what I know, or drink what' stronger against sobriety?

Bourbon is a **** of an alpha on sobriety. But can leave you regretting your initial engagement. You may have overshot the mark and got too aggressive. Your follow up rounds are a lot more unpleasant after that.

Absinthe is like flying three starvipers.

Gin is the Palp Aces of booze. Sophisticated, works well in a lot of situations, and can mess you up even though it doesn't seem like it would.

Vodka is the Ghost Fenn of booze.

Seconded. Particularly Tito's. Good Texan Vodka. Easy win.

I like the thought, but do you really think this would work? Why would a generic glaive, etc see play if VI were nerfed? The only things that are taking VI right now are using it to get to 10+, at least according to meta-wing.

The only exception being vessery, presumably to snag free target locks from the inquisitor which is so edge case I don't think a VI nerf/change is relevant.

Increase your pilot skill by 2.

You cannot perform Boost, Barrel Roll, or SLAM actions.

Arc dodgers that always move last aren't particularly interesting, sadly. If you cap PS at 9, there's a good chance I'm going to roll up with lists like Kylo + Soontir (or Kylo + Quiz, for an even bigger bid, but unlikely) and no one is going to have fun. The most fun games with arc dodgers are games where things are moving after you, without great re-positioning. Better properly be in their head!

I like this a lot. High maneuverability ships keep their maneuverability, but they have to guess right. High PS ships can get PS kills and deny information to maneuver ships, but they also have to guess right.

They are looking at it from a 40k perspective- Games Workshop is ******* terrible at English Grammar, and had no official OP support. FAQ's came out once every several years, frequently not addressing issues The TO's each had their own RAW VS RAI rulings, and people would use how events were ruled to figure out which to attend. The largest TO rulings group (the ITC) effectively became the default ruling, and GW eventually had them flat-out write the next edition.

The people trying to make their own rulings are trying to make an X-wing ITC. The real area that doing so is viable for X-wing is Epic though. Outryder is going down that path.

Have to say that I really like this idea.

I'm really conflicted on the PS9 cap. I guess I still like the PS9 cap if for no other reason than that I'd like to see Vader, Wedge, and Poe get to take other stuff than VI. When there's more listbuilding options, I feel happier because that's my favorite part of the game. I'm getting kind of sick of just blindly stapling VI to everything. But I also don't want to live in a Kylo/Soontir meta, so I guess I'm good without the cap too. I dunno. If they simultaneously added the PS9 cap and a very mild Kylo nerf, I'd probably be ok, but FFG doesn't seem to know how to debuff anything without completely destroying it. A Kylo-less meta would make me sad just for the loss of the good meme opportunities.

So yeah, I think FFG is probably best just leaving everything alone and not listening to the nerf-herders.

Also, what's the biggest NPE when it's actually good? Is it arc-dodgers, tractor beam, or ion? Because in various casual games I've seen all three be an NPE. Kylo Ren versus random low-PS arc-locked jank, Unkar Plutts that barrel-rolled Interceptors onto rocks before the combat phase, and Ion Cannon TIE/D's that just walked stuff right off the board. I feel like sometimes people say they want something to be good and then once it's too late, they realize that the thing is actually a total NPE if it works perfectly - like ordnance strikes and bombs. Yes, right now Tractor Beam, Ion, and arc-dodgers aren't super good. But do we really want to see what it looks like when they are? That's why I'm just slightly terrified of FFG trying to make Jamming "good" with the other stuff in the TIE Reaper pack.

There are "Actions on your Action bar" and "Bomb Actions". Maybe it's time they formally defined "Movement Actions" to cover boost, barrel roll, SLAM, and any other potential forthcoming ones.

Wonders never cease ... we have something in common!

Right now, on my shelf at home, I have: Angel's Envy, Bulleit, Maker's Mark (blue), Maker's Mark (red), Knob Creek, and Woodford Reserve. You can take the boy out of Kentucky ...

My shelf is empty... :(

So Ghost Fenn players don't actually like to play X-wing but if you mix it with enough sweet pink stuff then they can still win and shout Wooooo! a lot. Checks out

I'm pretty sure bourbon is the best liquor made in the US. I've never regretted drinking bourbon.

I will never forget wandering to a bar in 40* weather in Switzerland at 1:30 am in my pajamas, wearing flip flops and blind without my contacts because I really wanted some Kentucky bourbon.

Bourbon specifically? Me, either. I've certainly regretted drinking, and the drinking happened to be bourbon, though.

I remember one night at Applebee's, of all places, when I was a very poor college student, I ended up with a $90 bar tab, just for myself and Monsieur Le Wild Turkey. (Our total tab was around $300.) The manager was giving us free shots and appetizers.

Oh, that was a bad next day, and bourbon was certainly implicated.

Eagle rare is my goto, my taste and budget aren't fully refined yet, which is probabaly why I've also enjoyed jim beam black and Costcos Kirkland bourbon.

This is surprisingly decent, actually!

I guess you can say I'm not often a heavy drinker, but when I have, I've not regretted it being bourbon.

Honest question:

I've never had good bourbon (or whiskey):

Suggestions? And also, how to drink it (well)?
