Unrelated. What other minis games do people enjoy, bonus points if they're skirmish based or typically last under 90 minutes.
FFXIV, particularly on the excalibur server

Battletech is probably the best option.

My Raven, Warhammer, Trebuchet, and Archer ripped it up back in the day.
So can we blame EU Ghost Fenn on the Mynocks?
I hate giving them credit for anything (Kraytstrophe) but I would gladly pin killing the game on them.

Negative, first fenn ghost breakthrough was Alex and Jeremy from the krayts on top on top in Chicago. Dee just proved its so easy even a mynock can do it

Now defunct, but Mordheim was awesome in the Games Workshop Warhammer Fantasy universe. It used GW models plus some new ones to represent small mercenary bands. You had all kinds of great rules for gaining experience, recovering from injury, death of warband leaders, etc.
I've only heard good things about Freeblades, but that's because an old buddy owns part of the company. They have terrific models if you dig realistically proportioned fantasy models.

Didn't gw just release a new skirmish game, shadespire, and necormunda and a full 40k version of necro?
Shadespire is meant to be the competitive sport game from gw. Like x wing

Was there a 40k equivalent? Apacalypse or something
Shadespire is fun, but ultimately shallow currently. That said there are two new War Bands (Skaven and some stunty nonsense that’s a waste of a release that could have been murder Elves. That might add some more variation. Word of warning, while the rule set is amazingly tight for a GW product it is a GW product and their lack of experience doing upgrade card style games sometimes shows through in the wording. Also defensive Stormcast Eternals are basically fortressing Fair Ship on steroids if the Stormcast player wins the map placement roll-off.

No 40K version as of yet, and it’s way more IA Skirmish lite than X-Winghammer
A friend and I have been putting out feelers for a while after we hit an X-Wing rut last year. We recently tried GW’s Shadow War: Armageddon (the Necromunda reboot before they rebooted it for real) but the rules are GW at their worst (and the new Necromunda didn’t correct much). We just started looking into Bushido by GCT Studios - my minis are still in the mail but the rules seem pretty streamlined and objective focused and the buy in is super low (assuming you arent factoring in painting supplies/terrain).
Arena Rex is another low model count modern skirmish game that might be worth looking into though I have no personal experience with.
Team Covenant has demo videos for both if you’re curious.

I played a crap ton of Battletech from 1994-1997. considering I was 10 I thought that was pretty crazy. Then I found girls and didn't play games again until Mechwarrior Clix came out in 2002 and played that in 2003-2007. I was going to get into Heavy Gear... but the local community is very hit and miss.
I was intrigued by 40K, but the money wasn't there, and I wasn't interested in painting armies as even just my 10-12 Mechs from Batteltech was enough.
Essentially... I prefer things with big stompy robots... or Star Wars.

All of that is super helpful, shadow war looked cool on paper. Shadespire isn't as brutal financially as most gw games.
I bet I could get @Tlfj200 to play bushido, and I've heard nothing but good things about arena rex.
The background onntuis line of questioning is, I have a gift card to my flgs and they're doing 25% off this month, even if I don't jump ship its a good time to look at boats.
I love IA Skirmish, although that and X-wing are the only minis games I've ever played.

Wait there is a Heavy Gear miniatures game!?!??!?! I thought that was just an awesome Video Game.
We've only played x-wing in this house and my wife would divorce me (best case scenario...) if we ever hinted at another competitive miniature game.
I'm planning on using Gloomhaven to transition us to non-skirmish IA or Descent somewhere down the line.
X-wing still is great if you're not playing just the horrible tip top of the meta. I'm alternating between standard tournaments and alt ones at my FLGS and I launched a survey to better target to our local player base. 25 responses in, very few people seem to rate "winning" as a top reason for playing.
Our random tournament was the most fun I've had in a long time!

Nope. Poland.

There is.
They call it kill teams. I think it' free to download from GW.
Its 40k lite.
Just small squad skirmishes
Frostgrave is another popular skirmish.it's swords and sorcery.
Uses any miniatures you want.

I’m a long time battletech player. Things die but it’s a longer game. Paperwork.
I am about to venture into Infinity. Looks pretty good and looks like stuff dies.

Armada!!!!! Armada!!!! Armada!!! OR:
Play X-wing, but always try to play the worst thing that you think might be okay, for example, Leebo. Also, don't have a clock, so it has to turn into a brutal slugfest!!!!!
Also, Guildball seems super fun, but I have yet to play a game (first one in a few hours), but it is a 6v6 game of soccer combat, and is basically all free at this site: http://steamforged.com/guildball
Reminder ARMADA!! ISDS ARMADA!!! https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/products/star-wars-armada/
EDIT: Forgot to mention that ships in ARMADA take damage.

Armada is too slow for my taste. Ideally whatever game I pickup I can fit in my backpack
