Carolina Krayts is the best X-Wing podcast

Kanan Fenn will only rule regionals where harpoons and Gunboats no show or get drummed out early. Except when TOs gave popped shuttles free shots, good ole QD double/triple gun can tear the Ghost down too fast for Fenn to save... just TL or boost if you think you’ll be token locked

Back from Indy regional, fun times. Went 4-2 like I do at every regional and missed the cut by 10 MOV but that's fine. More importantly I met a lot of cool people including @Biophysical!

I'm proud of three of our guys who went 5-1 in swiss, including my boy Ray Fox who went undefeated in swiss until the last round with his own version of Palp Aces: Inquisitor, Palpshuttle, and...drumroll...Ion Cannon Vessery! I dubbed it "What A Twist!" or "WAT" for short. He caught so many people off guard with the Ion Cannon. Many Poes, Fenns, and Kylos were made sad that day. But I gotta vent now because the Ghost/Fenn was rampant at this regional and all three of our guys got knocked out in the Top 32 round by that list. It just makes me so mad, I saw so many people make mistakes with that list this weekend. Missing Sensor Jammer triggers, missing Fenn ability triggers, forgetting Flight Assist, all for basically no consequences...and yet once their opponent makes a mistake they just win. I feel for Ray especially since this was his first truly solid tournament run and yet he gets cucked out of dice in the cut because Inquisitor somehow dies Focus/Evade/AT/Palp behind a rock to a Ghost. Losing in Top 32 is the worst because you had to wake up early the next day to play, but you don't get any prizes that the rest of us scrubouts didn't. I'm going to Adepticon in March and I'm not really sure I'm excited to play if this list is still going to be everywhere.

Well, what beats it consistently? Non-token dice mods, volume of fire, and Kylo crew?

Sometimes when the meta sucks it can be fun to run a dream crusher list. Last worlds I didn’t have anything good that I thought was fun so I decided I wanted to hunt Miranda. This adeptecon might be ghost hunting season.

You’re so sad when you don’t hit that matchup though.

sounds like a way to go 4-2 or 3-3 and a ghost still wins.

Oh yeah, I ended 2-4 even. But when you already paid registration and the choices are 2-4 getting crushed with something I would normally like, or 2-4 where the 2 are lists I personally don’t like, I’ll take the latter.

Edit: I’ve gotten better since last year (thanks for the listener series) so maybe I better rethink my meta strategy.

I'm in a similar boat with how to beat Ghosts and still have good match ups against most of the other stuff that is expected to be flooding large events. Dash, Poe, Miranda, Nym, etc.

Is it time to form a research group? Is a google doc a good platform for this?

Non token mods are big. But also any list with more than 2 ships that can keep 2 outside of Fenns arc on approach and then clean up in a quickly in a subsequent round.

Yeah, I was kinda thinking Bunke-Swarm, Expertise Rey/Dengar, or probably RAClo?

I’d be in on Flight Assist titled Ys, but that probably sacrifices the other matchups? How can I have enough Astromechs and not enough y-wings to test?

That WAT list sounds awesome. I saw a lot of Ion/Ds. I figured people were Miranda hunting. I almost brought a couple Expertise Ds for the fun.

I went 4-2 with Omega Leader, Fel, and Expertise/Baffle/Optics/LWF Quickdraw. I played Fenn/Ghost once, and won a close game. Fel was terrific, largely immune to TLT fire. OL was also great. I pretty much traded Quickdraw for Fenn and the others slowly ground The Ghost down. I don't know how often this would work, but it seemed like a reasonable strategy at the time.

Also, Eagles are Krayts. Use the same trick play the Patriots failed at to get a touchdown. Their coach was like "I want to score a touchdown AND maximize disrespect."

I'm actually glad my new job schedule is keeping me out of events. It's so frustrating to see people who have no idea what they're doing be able to just push that thing to a win no consequences. It's been pretty much proven this weekend theres no skill to it. Even dengaroo and x7 defenders didn't want to land on rocks, ps11 boost ghost that can be just part of the plan. One awful meta after another, something has to change

Went 4-2 at a regional as well, played Fenn/Ghost twice and beat it twice. Did kinda the exact same thing each time against it. Served up either Vader or Quickdraw on a plate and then hit em hard from a different angle with my other ships. Got super lucky with my red dice which was probably the difference. Also this feels like its definitely the kinda thing were you want more than one PS11 ship in your list to deal with it consistently. Expertise woulda helped immensely but there has been so much Strezzra around that I kinda stay away from it out of fear.

Much respect though for running that list. Also...what is this Soontir Fel thing? I started playing after it was driven mostly out of the meta. Is it worth trying out now that there are slightly fewer bombs around?

I played him pre-ASLAM nerf on Vassal as part of an experiment with 2 SFs, and he did pretty well. As part of a triple aces list, though, he doesn't have to survive to the end, so you can be a bit more aggressive.

Been toying with Quickdraw, Inqy, and Sabacc. Might swap Inqy out for Soontir just to see how it plays. Im assuming you run the Targeting Computer version?

I do. I'm not a "run out the clock" sort of guy if i can help it.

Shots fired? @Brunas

Or shots fired at 100/6 format?

Do it. If anyone can make defenders relevant again, it is you. When I started playing, everyone told me to not play defenders, except one person who mentioned you and said that I should figure out how you make it work. Now, I use two defenders and make a lot of people who don't understand that ship very sad, "What do you mean you have three hits with an ion and a primary? THIS IS OP AND UNFUN FFG PLEASE NERF!!!!!" They then proceed to kill Vessery first and leave Rexlar alive, which, for those of you who haven't played against this, is almost exactly the wrong decision. Its great.

I don't know if it's good, ut ive got a four ship Imperial list I'm having fun with. 2x Nu Gunboats with Harpoons and LRS and 2x Delta TIE Defenders with x7.

Is the right choice here a slaver with Jabba, and that's it? That leaves 16 points leftover to fortress. Why put points on a ship that will surely die? With a 16 point bid, an undamaged Asajj is worth 65, putting her into or above fat turrets. At half points she's holding 41, which isn't as much as a heavy ace, but does now outpoint all the standard aces.

When someone finally wins a tournament with only one ship and a bid of 10 points or more, maybe the t65s will finally get a title.... Or the apocalypse will happen....or 2.0 will come out. Whatever.

Being """""""""""""""""real"""""""""""""""" about T-65s for a moment: what would it take to make them super good and almost an auto-include without making them too good:
