Idea for a second Core Set

By Shadow345, in Star Wars: Armada

Ships included -

ISD

MC75

Commanders - Grand Admiral Thrawn, Admiral Raddus

Titles - Chimera, Tyrant, Thunderflare

OK, so the only reason for this would to be a way to repackage the ISD, whilst providing it with the Chimera title and the much talked about arrival for Grand Admiral Thrawn.

Oh gods. For what $125?

Seriously. I paid $40 - 20% for two dinky orange looking spatulas, some cardboard, 2cent mass produced plastic and an empty tissue box of air. (Okay, I do apprecicate the Chinese painters or whatever machine that painted them, and the nice value of the arts used and FFG's work on the game.)

But really. $40 for a tissue box.

Just shove some exclusive new squadrons in there as well, most likely TIE Strikers and U-Wings.

yknow if i actually liked those (and i can see lots of ppl do), that might be enticing.

Probably the best way to introduce Thrawn and new ISD titles after a camapign

dont forget a new damage deck!

I don't want to buy a second core set.

Whats wrong with you people?

I'd prefer this as a special set, maybe in a campaign setting. I'd buy that. But a new core set? No.

This certainly

You just described miniatures wargaming.

If this bugs you, you might be in the wrong hobby.

Campaign box for this sounds like a good idea!

Isn't the Tie Striker for atmospheric use only? So it won't fit in Armada which happens in space.

Not sure how I feel about the U-Wing. What does it do?

FFG would have to release the individual ships in the box. So why not make a whole wave dedicated to this instead of a box of some sort? Can't expect us to buy the same box 3 times to get some squads or multiple ships.

It's where it's designed for and excels in, can be used in space, but they are useless **** basically

Yes, it technically is, but it's already in xwing so it really doesn't matter to FFG, they do what they want.

And the U-Wing is technically a transport that the rebels slapped door guns on and use as a dropship, but that also made its way to xwing. It could just be another squadron with a Cassian Andor ace card giving it Intel or something.

On the main topic, I can fully see FFG doing a second Core Set for The Last Jedi if there is actually a big capitol ship battle like the trailer seems to show. They did it for The Force Awakens in xwing, so I'd really be more surprised if they didn't throw a new one together for ep8.

Good you pointed that, I was wandering what the hell was doing the MC75 there. This would be a smashing blow to those who love thrawn and see themselves in the situation of having to spend 100€/$ to get it.

Leave re branding to Campaign boxes... last box gave us lots of Aces, maybe the next box will give us lots of titles and officers...

The MC75 should definitely be it's own release.... I'd hate to have to buy 2 $125 sets just to get 2 MC75s....

If we're doing core sets the best idea would be to break the current set in half...

Imperial core: $40
-VSD
-Gozanti
-6 ties

Rebel core: $40
-Neb-B
-CR90
-GR75
-5 X-wings

Imperial core: $40
-VSD
- Arquitens
-6 ties

New Ace "Scourge" Attacks made against damaged fighters add one black dice to attack pool

Rebel core: $40
-Neb-B
-CR90
- Hammerhead additional "Lightbringer" title
-4 X-wings
New Ace Garven Dreis Not sure what he could do.

Might as well include new titles for the ships and the original core exclusives.

Here let me adjust.

I mean, Maybe?

I think I'd stand by mine.

For new players that GR75 or Gozanti will likely see more use than whatever expansion is crammed in there. Simple fact is flotillas were designed to be part of a wide variety of fleets.

They add to the core without breaking the balance

I'm more a fan of TallGiraffe's version. Split core sets like you suggested look exactly like starter sets that every other miniature war game puts out, so they're more geared toward either letting a new player get started with a specific faction, or players expanding what they already have.

I've brought my armada collection to game night with several friends, and they have all ignored the flotillas the first time or 2 we play because its a stupid shuttle, not an awesome ship that can shoot stuff. New players don't care, or even know, about activation advantage or padding; they want to field a bunch of warships and a few squadrons to shoot everything.

Leave the flotillas out of the starter sets so they can pick those up when they learn the value of them.

Well I wanted to add more shooty shooty ships so new players have more fun throwing dice honestly.

Those are great ideas, especially since CC gave us shiny new aces, maybe a new campaign expansion can give us new ship cards. ISD-Ia or II-b or something, different dice/shield load outs, upgrade slots? And even more titles would add so much flexibility and variety. You always see Demo and Admo, Avenger, Jaina's Light and Yavaris...and ocne the ship is released that's all you get with titles.

Lock S-foils into Attack position and accelerate to attack speed.

"When a friendly squadron at distance 1 of you is activated with a (Sqd command) It may move with an additional speed 1, up to speed 5."

There done, that is his rule ;)

When you discard a deffense token as a resut of an attack you can assign that deffense token to another friendly squadron at distance 1-2 of you. Deffense tokens assigned this way are readied. Escort, bomber, brace-brace, 19 pts.

Personally I would like it to introduce the Vindicator Class or a Venator in place of the VSD, and maybe a FarStar or Sundered Heart like Cr-90 Refit or subclass for the Rebs along with an Assault Frigate. Along with Some Tie fighters and X-wings. I would make the Scenario based around Late War or Early both Giving reason for the Venator either as a Ship kept in Service or a Ship Refitted.

I like the Venator Idea, but honestly, the Rebels are already up a ship. What we need is a Rebel medium with two Imperial smalls.

MC75 or MC80A facing a Vindicator and a Bayonet.

As for squadrons, TIE Aggressors for the imps... I'm not sure for the Rebels, maybe ARC 170s,
