Oh no, I've just been devoured! That's awful! Hey, we just won the game ...

By Stenun, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

After a long struggle againt Yibb-T'stll, we have two gates left open. Agnes is in one of them, Bob is in Y'tha-whatever, Hank is in the streets killing things and Mandy is recovering from a bout of madness in the Asylum. We're one doom token away from waking the Ancient One, we have 4 sealed locations. This is not going well ...

And, as if to punctuate that point, Bob gets devoured during the encounter phase.

We draw the mythos card for the turn, and the new gate bounces of an elder sign. So still no waking from the Ancient One.

We roll randomly to pick the replacement Investigator for Bob and get ... Luke Robinson. And one of his random spells is Find Gate.

But he's delayed, even with Find Gate he won't be coming out this turn.

And then the mythos card for that turn is The Next Act Begins, starting Act II.

Oh, thank you very much. :-)

Sounds serendipitous, but it still seems like you're not out of the woods. Care to explain?

Let Act II enter play.

Next turn Luke is no longer delayed. He casts Find Gate and he's out.

It's been two turns, Agnes is also out.

Close both gates.

No open gates.

I assumed people would understand we had at least 2 other gate trophies - maybe I should have explained it ...

That's assuming you make both close rolls gui%C3%B1o.gif . And Luke makes his FG Spell check. Weird things can happen, even with Mandy in the mix.

Well actually, Luke begins delayed, and you can't cast Find Gate when you begin the movement phase delayed. So next movement phase he could not cast Find Gate.

Yes. Which is why we waited to the turn after ... :-)

Given the amount of confusion, I'm not sure I've reported this very well. *g*

Turn 1, Agnes enters one of the two open gates, Bob is devoured, the mythos card bounces off an Elder Sign. Luke is randomly selected to be the replacement, he starts with Find Gate.

Turn 2, Luke enters play, he stands up in the movement phase, the mythos card is The Next Act Begins which starts Act II.

Turn 3, Agnes leaves her Other World, Luke casts Find Gate and also leaves thanks to Gate Box. Both Agnes and Luke close their gates.

The whole point of starting this thread was to report of the extremely lucky happenings of going from a devoured Investigator with 1 space remaining on the Doom Track, to winning the game all because of the lucky draw of Luke with Find Gate.

I see, I see. Yes, that makes sense now. I knew you were reporting a heart-pounding close call, but I couldn't exactly put my finger on it.

Edit: to commemorate your heoric tale, I've left a comment in the "devoured" column of that game.
