Last stores I played so bad so I went with the "meta monster" even though Finland doesn't really have distinct meta. I've flown similar list for like this past year so I wanted to try that list in a tournament environment. Now that I've flown it and won I won't probably play it again in our local tournaments or casual games. It was a bit dirty and I could see sometimes a little frustration on my opponents. Probably not my proudest tournament win but a win nevertheless.

Also in some games my opponents green dice really helped me. In second game I did 5 damage to Backdraft in R3 first combat round and round after that I killed Omega Leader and did 2 damage to Focus+Evade Ryad. So yeah he rolled maybe 2 evades over 7 attacks. In Top 4 game I killed VI Nym in first combat round as I shot him 4 times in R2 and he rolled 0 evades and died from a Major Explosion.

Joguines Pardo Store Championship (27 players), in Cerdanyola, Spain (Wave 11 officially comes out next week here, so no wookiee meta yet)

Winning List : Two Delta Defenders (X7) and Major Stridan (AS, Hux, title and SO)

Runner up : Quickdraw (Expertise, FCS, SC, title and LWF), Backdraft (VI, FCS, PA, title and LWF) and Omega Leader (juke and CR)

Top 4

Triple K-Wing bombers - lost to runner up

Top 8

Vessery (juke and X7), Soontir (AT, PtL, SD and title) and Omega Leader (juke, CR and SD) - lost to the k-wings

Three Green Squadron Pilots (Snap Shot, Chaardan, juke, title and AT) and Heff (Jan, OS, title, ion projector and CD) - lost to winner

A U-wing in the top 8? Nice.

Quickdraw continues to be a force to be reckoned with - definately the sleeper hit of this season (and Backdraft, too). Will be interesting to see if they can handle the Rebel Junkyard, or if Imperial players will switch over to classic arc dodgers to counter that list.

I love Duncan Howard's QuickDraw, Omega Leader, Yorr list. Has the classic palp aces style yet got the chunk of hit points.

I'm at that very crossroads. Wondering if I should round out my squad with Backdraft or an Interceptor.... probably Targeting Computer Carnor.

I seriously doubt many people could play that list with the patience, precision and luck that Duncan Howard possesses.

He had to play his absolute guts out against Ron.

Doesn't mean the list ain't good.

Well I doubt Duncan would fly it if he didn't have the faith. It's certainly got the components.

It didn't look like Duncan had to do anything in that game aside from fly for a while and let Ron lose. He just flew OL around like a carrot and Ron flew straight into the rocks in pursuit, bouncing off rocks and debris, spinning off Rex on his own to die, bumping into his own ships. Nevermind that Ron allowed that obstacle layout to happen in the first place, he displayed zero patience. I guess this is what people mean when they say "high level X-Wing looks like low level X-Wing"?

Some of us are better at listbuilding than the actual playing, not least myself.

My completely lack of spatial awareness has often snatched defeat from the jaws of victory in those scant times that my own dice don't betray me. The highest I ever got was top 4, and one of those was a triple T-70 list so you can see the general level I'm playing at.

Edit: Or maybe it was late and he wanted his tea?

Are you Ron?

Nope. Just a man who goes to Store Championships and mostly loses to himself.

Lol...k.

Well, if Ron does pop in here, I didn't mean offense. I was just baffled watching that game. I didn't know why he flew like he did, it was almost as if he was trying to lose.

Again, my money is on: It was late and he was tired.

After 5 or 6 games of X-Wing mistakes happen and poor tactical choices are made. At a certain point it's not about the lists, it's about who makes the least mistakes.

Ain't that the truth!

Like my old Platoon Sergeant used to tell me: "Don't worry about a few mistakes, Lieutenant. It's not the most competent army that wins; it's the least incompetent one."

I'm often looking for my tea; knowing and using that against me is an acceptable gaming tactic. ?

Left the Kalamazoo-Fanfare SC early. 17 people. When I left after the cut, the top 4 where:

2 YV666 and a Mist Hunter

Bosskk & Dengar

Nym & Dengar

Poe w Intensity and Dash.

Went 2-2 with Double Defenders, Maarek w/X7 and Vessery w/D Ion, both with Expertise, and OL w/ A Score to Settle.

Imps were quite well represented. With 2 Swarms and a Whisper + mini Swarm making an appearance.

Top 4 of RIW in Livonia MI going on now ... I'm sure Khyros will post final when complete; right now he's one of the top 4. 27 players; 5 rounds with top 4 cut.

Top 4 (as best I recall):

4. QuickDraw (Expertise, Title, FCS, LWF), Vessery (VI, TIE/D, Ion Cannon), Sienar Specialist (TLT, LWF)

2. Kanan (TLT, Title, Rey, Rec Spec, FCS, EU), Biggs (R3-A2, IA), Zeb (Chopper, Title)

3. Fenn Rau (PTL, AT, Title), Palob (TLT, Predator), Trandoshan Slaver (4-LOM, Zuckuss, Dengar)

1. Bossk / Ketsu (didn't see the upgrades for this one)

I was 6th with Rey (Adaptability, Finn, Kanan, MF Sloop Title, Smuggling Compartment, Rigged Cargo Chute) and Poe(PS 9, Intensity, Black One, R2-D2, Comm Relay, Autothrusters) having lost to the #2 and #3 lists above.

//

Edit: List 4 lost to list 2; list 3 lost to list 1, so Bossk/Ketsu faced Kanan/Biggs in the final -- don't know who won, though.

I just got back from Rivendell Books and Games in Rehoboth, Massachusetts. 23 players. I came in second overall, and #1 in Swiss. We played 4 rounds and then a cut to Top 4.

Winner: William Dextradeur (#3 Swiss, 3-1)

  • Biggs + R4-D6 + IA
  • Lowhrick + Selflessness + Operations Specialist + Breach Specialist
  • Jess + hero droid + DtF
  • Rex

Second place: Bob Randall (#1 Swiss, 4-0)

  • Fenn + ML + AT + title
  • Asajj + ML + Latts
  • Scout + ML + Intel + rigged cargo

Top 4: Peter Gugel (#2 Swiss, 4-0)

  • Poe + Intensity + Comm Relay + Black One + R2-D2 (+ maybe something else?)
  • Miranda + Sabine + lots of stuff

Top 4: Matt Lenz (#4 Swiss, 3-1)

  • Dengar + Expertise + Punishing One + Unhinged + K4 + Extra Munitions + GC
  • Nym + VI + Autoblaster Turret + cruise missiles + bomblet generator + accuracy corrector + havock + genius

In any event, that's the first time that I have flown against Fair Ship Rebels. WOW, Operations Specialist is insanely good on that list. Not sure I'll try to math that one out, it's very complicated, but it's REALLY solid against another defensive list. The winner's only other loss was in round 4 of Swiss, 14-0 at time, when Rex finally died, on the last turn, to bombs, vs the #2 player. They rematched in Top 4, which again went to time, (no points had been scored with about 5-10 minutes left) but this time the Biggs squad killed a ship outright and won without needing to salvo. William flew very well all day, and this is his second store championship win this season.

My final table game ended at time after 2 hours, with me losing 32-0. I had put 2 damage cards onto Biggs, and 2 damage cards onto Lowhrick, but Selflessness and DtF were still active. He had removed 3 shields from Ventress, removed 3 shields from the Scout, and put 2 damage cards onto Fenn. Unfortunately for me, those 2 cards were both faceup direct hits. At 75 minutes in, nothing had died yet and no points had been scored, it was still 0-0. Fenn soon after blanked out on a range 1 shot from Jess [blank hit hit crit], I rolled [blank blank blank, eye --> evade w/ focus] +CDT evade. Direct hit, add to your other direct hit, do not pass go, do not collect $200. With all the dice that list throws at you, and generally all of them modified via Ops spec, it's bound to happen eventually. I had made an earlier mistake running Asajj too far away, so she was out of the fight for a while and turned into a 40 point focus battery, as Fenn and the Scout tried mightily to dance with the biggs list and put some damage through. Although if he had turned towards Asajj, it would have saved her bacon.

My top 4 match was kind of crazy. I forgot Nym had cruise missiles, and was just thinking he had accuracy corrector autoblaster... so I ended up in range 2 eating a 5 dice cruise missile. Derp fail. Fenn got one-shot, [blank hit hit hit crit] vs [blank blank evade], and the crit was direct hit. Cya Fenn, he never fired. So it's Asajj and the Scout by themselves against his entire list. Dengar was only down 1 shield and I think I had taken 2 off of Nym. No problem! Asajj and Scout proceeded to eliminate Nym and then Dengar, I don't think I even gave up half on either ship. Those two ships have successfully soloed entire lists for me now almost half a dozen times.

Not a bad run for this season's Store Championships, I only attended two, but went 11-1 overall and won one. I have kept my streak of being undefeated through Swiss at store championships going for a second season, I think, which is cool. 9-0 this season flying Parattanni w/ Intel and chute, 11-0 last season flying Maximum Danger Zone (Stresshog, 2x Wardens + TLT + Tactician, bandit) before the TLT+tactician nerf. [edit - I think there may have been another season in there where I was playing bumpMasters and might have lost a game, I can't remember.]

The thought of playing against more unkillable Biggs lists is extremely discouraging though. I'm not traveling to Nova Open or any other large events, but man, if I was I would seriously reconsider going at this point. It's just a terrible list to fly against in 75 minutes.

Yeah. I almost never score 0 points on an opponent. I think this is the first time that I haven't scored any points on an opponent in several years .
