Total: 100

Beat the following squads for the win:

3. 100-0 vs Fenn, Asajj, N'Dru
4. 28-25 vs Poe (BB-8), Nien (Snap Shot, R3-A2), Jess (M9-G8)
5. 100-25 vs Dengar, Fenn, Inaldra
6. 66-25 vs Fenn, Asajj, Scout
7. 100-50 vs Dengar, Fenn, Inaldra

Didn't lose a ship the entire day.

Don't listen to people who tell you that your favourite ship just "can't compete" in the "current meta" :-)

Great job man! Out of curiosity, were you trying to ionize the target at every opportunity or did you just try to damage stuff and only use ion cannons when there was a good payoff / when you missed?

It was less about damage output and more about being able to bully the opponent for positional board control. Patient, methodical approaches and baiting/bluffing in order to efficiently create kill-zones and traps. Having only one strategy (ie. Ion all the time!,or Damage all the time!) makes you predictable. When Brobots are predictable, they are dead.

That said, only two games ended up going to time. Couldn't secure a kill on Asajj in Game 6, and Game 4 was mostly about killing Jess Pava and then desperately trying to stay alive against that horrific Nien Numb. In every other game I tabled my opponents within 45-60mins.

Yesterday I won a store championship in Barcelona, Spain at Freegame (28 people) with:

  • Quickdraw with juke, FCS, LWF, title, CR (38)
  • Backdraft with juke, FCS, LWF, title, CR (36)
  • Omega Leader with PtL and HCS (25)

It's pretty janky with hard counters in Wes, Teroch and Palob as there's no way to recover the evades after setup, but fortunately I didn't face any of those pilots. I'd gone around 9-1 in friendly matches (after swapping out Zeta Leader for Omega) and 2-1 in a 22-player tournament, and as I'd been having lots of fun with it (it helps that it hits like a truck) I decided to go for it as I already made the top cut in two other store championships with other lists.

My match ups were:

  1. 100-0 Corran/Ahsoka/Biggs
  2. 100-38 Boba/Asajj
  3. 100-0 Whisper/Omega Leader/Inquisitor
  4. 100-0 Ahsoka/Dutch/GSP/Roark
  5. 100-0 Ahsoka/Dutch/GSP/Roark*
  6. 100-36 Biggs/Miranda/Thane
  7. 100-38 Chewbacca/Ezra/Biggs

*it was a really strange tournament in which 6 of the players in the top 8 had already faced each other in the swiss.

The other top lists were:

Finalist

  • Chewbacca w/Expertise, Bistan, C-3PO, SC, BMST, Ezra w/ASTS, Chopper and ABT, Biggs w/R4-D6 and IA

Top 4

  • Miranda w/HM, EM, GC, Rey and TLT, Biggs w/R4-D6 and IA, Thane w/Jyn, R2-D6 and DTF
  • Vader w/juke, AC, title, EU and PR, Soontir w/PtL, AT, title and SD, and Duchess w/Adaptability, LWF and title (lost to the Chewie list)

Top 8

  • Dutch w/ABT, PT, EM and GC, Gold Squadron Pilot w/ABT, PT, EM and GC, Biggs w/R4-D6 and IA, and Ahsoka with Adaptability and CT
  • Ketsu/Bossk (lost to the Chewie list)
  • Quickdraw/Backdraft/Inquisitor (lost to the Vader list)
  • Omega Leader w/juke and CR, Vessery w/Expertise, X7 and MKII, and Quickdraw w/CS, FCS, LWF, title and PA (lost to the Miranda list)

Edit: fixed one of the top 8 lists.

Correct me if im wrong but doesnt the wording on HCS make it so you cant assign backdraft an evade token since you have to place backdraft before omega leader?

HCS lets me put Omega Leader on the table as a PS6 ;)

Oh gosh. Sorry. Thanks!

Wow, three Brobot wins this weekend: one in Columbus, OH and two in the UK (one I just heard about on FB). Are Brobots making a comeback?

I dont really mind that list, but you're paying 7 points (3+3+1) for what amounts to two evade tokens. And you're gimping OL a bit in the process (he really prefers juke and comm relay). It's not a bad list, but is it worth it?

Two evade tokens, which is roughly equivalent to two shield upgrades, which would be 8 points (yes, I know Shield Upgrade is overcosted), PLUS you're enabling Juke on 2-3 shots per round. It's sort of like having reusable Crack Shots because most enemies won't have multiple Focus tokens to use against all those Jukes. Or you're fighting Atanni Mindlink and you're getting the enemy to spend Focus tokens on defense that they otherwise wouldn't, so they don't have any for offense sometimes.

His offense is worse, but his defense might actually be better. He can arc dodge better or token up for defense with PTL and still have ok offense.

It won a store champs, didn't it?

Actually Omega Leader was the only ship I didn't lose throughout the seven rounds. Entering combat with focus and a TL and then getting focus+evade every turn afterwards makes him very difficult to damage. His output goes down against ships that roll lots of green dice, but on the other hand it makes it easy to switch targets and focus fire someone else if you need to. On several occasions I would even spend both the focus and TL to get full hits on a ship after blanking because the defender's focus was already spent to defend from Quickdraw's shot. I wouldn't call it gimping him as much as using him in a different way, and I've been consistently using Omega Leader (with juke and comm relay) since the ship came out.

As for the price I'm paying, the comm relays are effectively shield upgrades once I spend the evade (usually I wait until the last possible moment to spend it), and multiple uses of juke per turn are pretty devastating. It was common for me to do double attacks when my target of interest was behind me just to force my opponent to spend his focus on defense, and once in another tournament I even managed to get Quickdraw to fire four shots into an adjacent jumpmaster... all juked. It was beautiful.

It's effectively a crack shot that I would use maybe 10 times per game between the two of them, so I'd call it a bargain.

I don't know about comeback. But myself and Kevin here in England have flown the ship quite a bit. It was just coincidence that we both won our store championships back-to-back in the same weekend.

I love this list and may have to give it a go. I had considered Zeta Leader with predator, twin ions, HCS in place of a non-standard omega leader, but you make a good argument..

Can I ask what your setup and approach was? Presumably flying both SF's in formation for as long as possible?

I usually set up in one corner and would make judicious use of 1-banks and barrel rolls to wait and see which side of the rocks my opponent will come from, and would attempt to go head on with BD and another ship (could be either OL or QD, but usually QD) and flank with the other. I find that going head on with BD makes it easier to use the rear arc after the first engagement, and it also creates a target priority problem for the opponent as BD is the ship that's least effective in a 1-on-1 endgame, but people usually want to get rid of all of QD's shields in one turn, so I'd generally start combat with QD at range 1 of the enemy to ensure that something dies in exchange for the shields. Three juke-backed range 1 modified shots tend to mean that a ship will die, sometimes even before shooting. Sometimes that would leave QD into hull (either with or without the evade token) and sometimes that dead ship's not shooting meant that QD had a chance to save a shield for a following round.

To give a few examples, in my first round I destroyed Biggs before he could fire, in the last round of swiss I killed Roark before his first shot, in the top 8 I killed Dutch before his first shot (he gave the GSP PS12), and in the final Biggs died after his first shot plinked a shield off of QD. The semifinal was the hardest matchup because Biggs was protected by Jyn's extra focus tokens, R4-D6 and DTF, and I lost BD before killing him, but once I managed to off Biggs (and the rest of Miranda's shields), Thane spent a couple of turns turning around and my opponent had to choose between plinking a shield here and there off of QD and shooting at a tokened up OL, neither of which being a good option.

Every player walked away with a bunch of stuff, plus they had door prizes and an extra prize for last place and for games that went to final salvo (there was one).

Great job Glenn!

Level Up in St. Paul, MN 22 players 4 rounds, cut to top 4

Winner: Vessery (Ion, Tie D. VI) Omega Leader (Comms, Juke), Quickdraw (Pattern, FCS, Title, LWF, Score to Settle)

Runner-Up: Dengar (Mindlink, Crane, Overclocked, Counter Measures, Citrik Vizago), Fenn (Mindlink, Thrusters, Title), Inaldra (Light Syck, Mindlink)

Top 4:

RAC (Vader, Gunner, Captive, EU, VI, Dauntless), Quickdraw (Adapt, FCS, Title, LWF and I think one other upgrade).

Quickdraw (Adapt FCS, Title, LWF), Omega Leader (Comm Relay, Juke), Rexlar Brath (Expertise, X7, Mk2)

I was the fourth one listed and have to give credit to Biophysical, which is where the Rexpertise build and it is a ton of fun and actually gets his ability to trigger more regularly.

Poromagia Store Championship 15.7.2017, Helsinki, Finland. 18 players (6 did not show up for various reasons or no reason at all). Wave 11 was not allowed as it came in stores (1 store) 2 days prior the tournament.
Listjuggler should be up later today. Some of this info may be wrong as I wrote it from my memory.

Winner: (Swiss 2nd)
Kanan Jarrus (TLT, FCS, Recon Specialist, Rey, Tactical Jammer, Ghost)
Biggs (M9-G8, IA)
Zeb (Autoblaster, Chopper, Phantom)

Runner-Up: (Swiss 4th)
Gold Sq. Pilot (TLT, R3-A2, BTL-A4)
Rookie Pilot (Seismic Torpedo, R4-D6, IA)
Rookie Pilot (M9-G8, IA)
Bandit Sq. Pilot (Tracers, Chips)
Bandit Sq. Pilot (Tracers, Chips)

Top 4: (Swiss 1st, lost to runner-up)
Scimitar Sq. Pilot (Shuttle, Tactician, Vader)
Scimitar Sq. Pilot (Shuttle, Tactician, Operations Specialist)
Scimitar Sq. Pilot (Shuttle, Tactician, Operations Specialist)
Scimitar Sq. Pilot (Shuttle, Tactician, Intelligence Agent)
Scimitar Sq. Pilot (Shuttle, Tactician)

Top 4: (Swiss 3rd, lost to winner)
Airen Cracken (VI, Homing Missile, Chips)
Jan Ors (VI, Nien Numb, TLT)
Miranda Doni (Autoblaster Turret, Homing Missiles, Extra Munitions, C-3PO, Chips)

I myself went 1-3 and 14th place. Flew Boba+Kath and my tournament for the most part can be blamed on green dice. first 2 turns of shooting I rolled 12 evade dice, 11 of them were blanks and 1 focus. So yeah. That went on through the tournament so even if I flew somewhat well I still took too much damage from R3 obstructed shots and so on.

But now onto new tournament adventures with Wave 11 :) Happy for our winner as he has been in Finals for so many times and finally got his first Store Championship after 1 year tournament hiatus.

Was this a TO call? New ships should be immediately available upon release for store championships.

TO Call as there weren't opportunity for everyone to have them. Would've been unfair. Considering that only 1 store got them on release day and with limited quantity. The store we were playing didn't get them so it was kind of stupid to allow them.
