4 Player List-Building and Strategy

By ThatJakeGuy, in Imperial Assault Skirmish

Hello! I'm sure everyone here who is going to Worlds 2017 is already at least thinking about what list they want to bring and getting in some practice (and if you haven't got a list yet, my article can give some good pointers ;) ).

Additionally, however, I have also been getting lists ready for the 4 Player Skirmish side event! I'm looking for feedback on what units may have better value in 4 player, as well as useful strategies for this mode.

It is worth noting that Jabba, per the Jabba's Realm rules, chooses one opponent at the beginning to get points from Nefarious Gains, so while he's still great, he's not broken in 4 Player. Additionally, OP is looking into an errata of R2's command card, Terminal Network, so R2 will probably not be a must-have.

With all that out of the way, here's the list I'm looking at:

4 Player Super Troopers (15/15/40)
================================
[7] Elite Jet Trooper
[1] Targeting Computer
[7] Elite Jet Trooper
[1] Targeting Computer
[7] Captain Terro
[1] Feeding Frenzy
[5] Dewback Rider
[5] Dewback Rider
[2] Imperial Officer
[2] Imperial Officer
[1] Rule by Fear
[1] Zillo Technique

-------------------

[3] Grenadier -or- New Orders
[2] Call the Vanguard
[2] Overrun
[2] Squad Swarm
[1] Ferocity
[1] Negation
[1] Provoke
[1] Survival Instincts
[1] Strength in Numbers
[1] Fuel Upgrade
[0] Positioning Advantage
[0] Element of Surprise
[0] Planning
[0] Fleet Footed
[0] Deadeye

I chose to run this list for 2 reasons: I'll most likely be using Scum in the World Champs proper, so I don't want to double up factions, and this list is pretty beefy, meaning my units will stick around longer to accomplish objectives in a 4 way firefight.

What are your lists and strategies for 4 player Skirmish?

My friend just played a very similar list (Survivalist on Terro, 1 dewback with Feeding Frenzy and a set of Regular Jet Troopers for objectives) in a tournament this weekend. It's a great list, tough to take down, great mobility and high damage potential. Needs to be played aggressively to be effective. I would keep the second dewback over the regular jet troopers in a 4 person skirmish because I imagine it's just all about the destruction.

But, I would almost rather have Survivalist than Feeding Frenzy especially in a 4 player skirmish, it is double the units on the board so potentially double the clutter you have to maneuver through. On that same vein of thought, Single Purpose is great on Terro and again with potentially even more clutter might be extra devastating. Timed right Cavalry Charge is also great, drop it as Terro charges into enemy fire and follow up with your Jet Troopers to get that added 2 damage surge that puts less pressure on those single symbol blue rolls that happen all so often. If you stack that with Survival Instincts at the right time it makes him basically invincible for that round. I saw this be a game changing combo for my buddy on the weekend. He was able to drop these two cards charge Terro in, double flame throw a group of 4 with Single Purpose, then sit right in the middle of the enemy basically not being attacked or if attacked taking next to no damage. This causes the enemy to move up to target units behind him, which brings them closer in range to the Jet troopers to get their 2 space added blue, 2 space added surge and the re roll from TC.

Personally, I think dewbacks have too much trouble on the difficult terrain of the 4 player map to be worth fielding two of them, but I understand the desire to put those creature cards to use. That and anything with a larger base is automatically an easier target with that many guns on the board.

That said, I'll be at worlds, but admittedly skipping the FFA. If it has to be four player maps, I'd have dug something like an epic-style 1v1 with two lists per person.

Just started thinking about that this weekend. Have never played 4 player and haven't really even looked at the maps. I am going to follow this thread and see if there are any gems to be mined from it.

Initial thoughts are higher HP figs...with blast. How about Elite Heavy Troopers? Blast 2 would be a nice to have when dudes are clumped together. OR Wookie Spam to pull off some hairy cleavage?
