Just some sculpted familiars and painted models.

By totgeboren, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Hey guys, just wanted to show off some of my painted (and sculpted) stuff for Descent. :)

Inspiration came partly from Sorastro's painting series on Youtube, (he has a thread here.)

So thanks for that Sorastro!

My stuff can be found here.

The last thing I got done was Mirklace and Verminous. :)

The next two lieutenants, the Olliven brothers!

Nice work, I really like the glow on Tristayne.

Thanks! Had to repaint his eyes like five times before I was happy. And Rylans eyes were also really challenging. I think his sculpt had suffered some slight deformation, since the eyes were not even close to level or at the same depth. But after enough tries at painting them, I had basically created a smooth surface to paint instead, which made things rather easy. :)

Yeah some of the model sculpts from Nerekhall and some of the earlier M&H packs are pretty bad, lots of melted faces or weird spots that kinda blend together.

Great painting, I'm yet to paint mine. There are various ways to fix any problem sculpts such as green-stuff or other tweaking to fix the model pre-painting. Or of course just go with it and explain it in some way!

Thanks! I actually sculpt a bit myself so am no stranger to greenstuff. (My 'heroic' Cthulhu turned out pretty nice I think!)

I guess the issue is that I'm more used to sculpts cast in harder but more brittle materials (mainly GW stuff), not intended for kids in the same way FFGs boxed games are. These FFG models should be easily jammed into a box after playing, but the soft material does lead to some casting issues I wasn't used to.

Still, I really enjoy the theme of the models, all the bright high-fantasy is really fun to paint for a change! I don't actually own a single Descent model, they belong to a friend. I just asked him if I could paint some heroes and monsters that took my fancy. :)

love your sculpt !

Thanks a lot!

Your kind comments certainly warms my old cold heart! <3

I would love to have your skills.

Do you do some on demands ?

Thank you!

Eh, I haven't painted or sculpted on demand so far... I usually only paint or sculpt when the mood hits me.
To be perfectly honest, these results are like 9 parts patience and 1 part experience. That means they take quite a bit of time, and so I don't know if I could charge a reasonable price for services like that. I'm currently on the last year of getting my Ph.D and so time is sadly in rather short supply. :(

*edit* As I mentioned in the first post, one of the main sources of inspiration was Sorastros videos on Youtube. After looking through many/most of them, and following them in the cases where I had the miniature (tonnes of rewinding videos to be able to keep up!), my painting quality improved immensely!
It's like, lets say my painting is a 7/10 now, then I was a 5/10 just a month or two ago. Taking the time to look through Sorastors (and actually some GW painting videos) does make a huge difference, at least if you have a figure where you can follow the tutorial step by step.
