Play by email?

By dirsch, in Doom

Has anyone every tried to play this game by email? Think it can be done?

I'm currently playing two different a Play-By-Forum game over on BGG. With the different player-aides, it works out very well. We use the TileSystem to chart where we are between turns, posting up screen-captures to make sure everyone's on the same page, and we also use the Doom Dice Simulator v 1.3 for rolling dice, just trusting everyone to be honest, posting the results (again using dice-pics so it's very clear). The trickiest part are Interrupts, but we just play out our whole turn, if there's an interrupt, the player does his interrupt and then original player just pretends everything after the interrupt didn't happen and redoes it all. Works out fairly well and has been quite satisfying to this point :)

The first one, http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/469135 and we're almost done, in the last room having used the BFG to great effect and about ready to leave. The second one http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/471215 is only about 1/4 the way through, and doing okay but will be a much closer game.

I havent played via e-mail, But I have played the first scenario (Knee Deep in the Dead) online using Maptool (www.rptools.net) and Skype

I used the tiles and tokens from Tilesystem and imported them to maptool and its worked great so far. I have Macros for all the die rolls and with the Fog of War function I have the whole map set up ahead of time and just reveal it as needed.

Unfortunately maptool doesnt have any card fucntionality built in so I have to play the invader and the players have to trust me to not cheat with the cards.

Hopefully they'll add it soon or I find another online tabletop with the functionality I need built in :)
