Stark opening strategies and mid-game goals

By Saramund, in A Game of Thrones: The Board Game (1st Edition)

Orders : March+1 ship, March+0 and March-1 on troops.

Move 1 footman from winterfell to Karhold, he gathers power every turn. Move the Knight to Moat Calin. Move your ship to the south to the Narrow Sea (dont do this until AFTER Baratheon has executed their move order on their fleet).
Move the footman on White Harbor to either the Twins or Mountains of the Moon.

Future goals : get more ships on the east seaboard and HOLD the NARROW SEA at all costs. If Baratheon takes this you are screwed. Hold Moat Calin as well, and if Greyjoy defends it poorly and loses the sword, make a stab for Seaguard. Gather power with a footman in the north (and 2 spots later after a muster happens and you move another there). I prefer to send the first to Karhold not Castle black becasue it is unraidable from the Bay of Ice. (just in case).

Gather power in the twins or use it to support and attack at Seaguard. Try to take Eyrie at some point (when its safe to support from the sea and/or mnts of the moon and move in). Plan to make a stab at Crackclaw point at some time.

Your final 7 cities if you win are likely:

Winterfell, White Harbor, Moat calin, the Eyrie, Seaguard, Crackclaw Point : 1 more (flint's finger, riverrun, harrenhall or dragonstone)

Goals : get the sword or at LEAST dont let Greyjoy or Baratheon have it, and get ahead of them on the fiefdoms track. This helps you hold your seazones and make progress. Dont lose the Narrow sea, and do NOT lose the Narrow Sea!!! Also: Dont lose the Narrow Sea. Bay of Ice is very important too, aminly you dont want Greyjoy going there. If they do, you'll never be able to build a ship on that side to stop them, and they can come in to your northern lands, or raid you.
